Welcome!

Jerquarius Stanback visited and then signed with Alabama State for the upcoming season.

A new destiny for AHS’s Stanback

ASHEBORO — It’s often said when one door closes, another opens. That’s what happened for Asheboro High School basketball star Jerquarius Stanback this past weekend and he was more than excited to go through.

Stanback signed a full Division I scholarship to play basketball at Alabama State after having his original commitment to Appalachian State voided.

A member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, league members include Alabama A&M, Alcorn State, Bethune Cookman, Florida A&M, Grambling State, Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State, Prairie View A&M, Southern, Texas Southern and Arkansas Pine Bluff.

The Hornets finished 13-19 overall last season, 8-10 in SWAC play.

Stanback took an official visit to Alabama State this past weekend and signed before returning to Asheboro. Alabama State recently announced the signing of five incoming transfers.

Stanback averaged 25 points, 11 rebounds and recorded 99 blocked shots in 23 games his final year. Stanback was named the NCBCA District Player of the Year his senior season.

He is expected to return to Alabama State in a week to begin classes and workouts.
