ASHEBORO — When a county was as impressive in one sport as Randolph County was in volleyball this past season, choosing an all-county team is a very difficult decision.
Six of the eight teams in the county qualified for the state tournament with five capturing at least one playoff win. Two of the teams — Randleman and Uwharrie Charter Academy — advanced to the third round and five teams recorded at least 16 wins with UCA registering 28 and RHS 20. Asheboro had 19 wins, Trinity 17 and Southwestern Randolph 16. That’s impressive.
To be eligible for the all-county team, a player had to be nominated by her coach with characteristics such as leadership, sportsmanship and final statistics all weighing into the nomination. The team was then selected from the nominations received.
Narrowing down so much talent was difficult, but the Randolph Hub would like to present the 2024 All-Randolph County Volleyball Team.
Player of the Year: Camden Scott, Randleman
Randleman High School senior Camden Scott was one of those players who was pretty much automatic with her spiking ability. She had incredible arm motion and was exceptionally effective from the right side. The PAC Player of the Year, she is a two-time All-Conference performer who led the team with 333 kills, while adding 340 digs and 28 blocks on the season. She is headed to play collegiately at NC A&T.
Coach of the Year: Kerry Mitchell, Randleman
Randleman’s Kerry Mitchell navigated one of the toughest conferences in the state in leading the Tigers to the PAC regular-season championship. It took until the final game of the season, a win by Southwestern Randolph over Uwharrie Charter Academy, for the Tigers to win it, but they did and captured their first league championship since 2010. RHS finished 11-1 in league play and then posted playoff wins over R-S Central and Forbush to reach the third round of the state 2-A playoffs.
