Asheboro snapped a long losing streak while Trinity and Southwestern Randolph also posted wins Friday night. Here’s a look at what happened.
ASHEBORO 18, WHEATMORE 13
The Blue Comets (1-3) ended a 12-game losing streak with their win over Wheatmore. Asheboro hadn't won since beating Randleman to open the 2021 season.
Wheatmore fell to 1-4.
TRINITY 18, CARRBORO 13
Trinity scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to rally past Carrboro. The Bulldogs trailed 13-6 entering the final period.
Quarterback Dominic Payne completed the comeback by throwing a touchdown pass to Brandon Campbell with five seconds left, capping a 70-yard drive. Campbell was 7-of-14 for 103 yards for the game.
Campbell also returned a kickoff 50 yards for a touchdown and Adrian Goodwin ran for a touchdown.
Xavier Horton led the defense with eight tackles, a sack and an interception.
Trinity improved to 4-1. Carrboro fell to 2-3.
SOUTHWESTERN RANDOLPH 20, ALBEMARLE 7
Quarterback Easton Clapp ran for 194 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Cougars (3-1) returned to the win column. Adam Cole added a rushing touchdown.
Nathan Ellis led the defense with an interception.
LEDFORD 42, PROVIDENCE GROVE 21
The Patriots weren't quite able to keep up with the undefeated Panthers despite 175 yards and 3 touchdowns from Zane Cheek.
Ledford (5-0) amassed 379 yards of total offense. The Panthers also returned an interception for a touchdown.
Providence Grove dropped to 4-1.
NORTH STANLY 40, RANDLEMAN 34
The Tigers fell in a shootout in a game that saw both teams surpass 400 yards of total offense.
There were some big performances turned in by the Randleman offense. Quarterback Christian Long ran for 4 touchdowns and threw for more than 200 yards. Amarion Moton ran for 114 yards and a touchdown. Tyshaun Goldston caught 7 passes for 114 yards.
The Tigers (3-2) had some success on special teams and defense. Cam Norton blocked a punt while Bryson Atkins blocked an extra point attempt and intercepted a pass.
