Asheboro stayed unbeaten while handing Uwharrie Charter Academy its first loss of the season last week.
Here are some highlights from last week in that game and other sports around the county.
Boys' Basketball
- Jalial Timmons scored 16 points in Asheboro’s 55-42 victory over Uwharrie Charter. Osiris Rodriguez added 15 points for the Blue Comets.
Jaxon Mabe led Uwharrie Charter with 17 points and Braeden Lamb had 11.
- Andrew Thomas scored 15 points in Providence Grove’s 64-52 loss to South Stokes. Brady Collins had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Stephen Beeson had 9 points and 7 rebounds. Jackson Rhyne added eight points.
- Wyatt Stepp scored 10 points and Parker Kines had 8 in Wheatmore’s 77-43 loss to Ledford.
- Nazir Staton scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in Trinity’s 81-52 loss to High Point Central. Zy’iveon Holmes had 14 points and 6 rebounds. Walker Parrish scored 11 points.
- Kines scored 18 points and had 6 assists in Wheatmore’s 81-40 rout of South Davidson. Finley Bryant and Avery Ivey each scored 11 points while Wesley Driggers had 10. Truman Auman had 5 points and 9 rebounds.
- Tyshaun Goldston scored 23 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists in Randleman’s 70-43 win over Southern Guilford. Jireh Price scored 11 point and Chase Farlow had 8.
- Rodriguez scored 11 points while Timmons had 9 in Asheboro’s 51-35 win over Southwestern Randolph. Elijah Woodle, Jewel Barrett-Riggins and Zak Blackwell all had 8 points.
Brayden Chapman led Southwestern Randolph with 16 points.
- Goldston scored 19 points and Price had 15 in Randleman’s 75-43 win over Lexington. Farlow added 10 points.
Girls' Basketball
- Jordin George scored 13 points and got 5 steals in Southwestern Randolph’s 59-15 rout of North Moore. Maddie Strider had 11 points and 4 assists. Kenzie Martin had 9 points and 10 rebounds. Macy Allred had 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
- Naimah Al-Arif scored 13 points and Navaeh Staples had 11 as Uwharrie Charter beat Asheboro 35-26.
Adalynn Scherer led Asheboro with 13 points.
- Allred scored scored 15 points in Southwestern Randolph’s 65-22 win over Asheboro. Strider had 13 points while George contributed 11. Gracie Hodgin had nine points.
Scherer led Asheboro with 9 points.
- Mya Hooker scored 18 points as Trinity beat North Carolina Leadership Academy 45-36. Madison Hill had 16 points.
- Al-Arif scored 15 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 63-10 rout of River Mill Academy. Lainey Thomas added 9 points and Brennan Thomas had 8.
Boys' Wrestling
- Asheboro’s Quentez Butler (1st, 126), Estoban Santos (2nd, 106), Oscar Zelaya (2nd, 126), Berik Bigelow (2nd, 132), Adam Curry (3rd, 157), Owen Chidester (3rd, 190) and Omar Basyouny (4th, 123) placed in the Cold Turkey/Zach Thornburg Memorial Invitational.
Placers for Eastern Randolph were David Lambright (1st, 126), Jamie Crabtree (1st, 138), Christian Cabeza (2nd, 215), Joshua Watson (3rd, 113), Trevor Crabtree (3rd, 132), Lucas Kennedy (4th, 120), Trevor Young (4th, 144) and Hayden Payne (4th, 190).
Jose Flores (1st, 285), Erick Rabadan Lopez (2nd, 175), Michael Jaimes (3rd, 144) and Ayden Walker (4th, 157) placed for Southwestern Randolph.
- Trinity swept a quad match with Southwestern Randolph (60-19), East Davidson (68-12) and Salisbury (63-18).
Stephen Cross, Edgar Vasquez, Omega Edge, Kayden Hess, Aiden Burkholder, Jayden Henry, Jaden Allred, Zane Schloemer and Lawson Coltrane all went 3-0 for Trinity. Corbin Heugly was 2-0 and Jeven Palmeri was 1-0.
Jaimes, Dominic Ross and Flores were all 2-0 for Southwestern Randolph. Leland Davis was 1-0. Ryan Owen, Dallas Rambo, Cody Foland and Lopez were all 1-1.
- Uwharrie Charter rolled over Providence Grove 70-6 in a dual match.
Winning for the Eagles were Ayven Virasone Chitavong, Paxton Kearns, Andrew White, Caleb Saldana, Brennan Worrell, Rick Riccardella, Brandon Julian, Caden Thorne, Lorenzo Alston, Aiden Foster, Caden Bond, Michael Shropshire and Jesse Bowles.
Jonathan Martinez got a win for Providence Grove.
- Bigelow, Aldo Oliver, Alexander Patino, Jeffrey Harper, Owen Chidester, Butler, Basyouny, Santos and Zelaya were victorious in Asheboro’s 51-24 win over Oak Grove.
- Alex Raymundo, Lloy Bosan and Garrett Dycus were all 2-0 in Randleman’s tri-match with Wheatmore and Dudley. Jonah Sturdivant was 1-0. John Roswick, Caden Littleton and Hezekyah Matson were all 1-1.
- Maddox Carson, Lambright, and Watson were all 3-0 in Eastern Randolph’s quad match with Ashe County, East Wilkes and South Caldwell. Kennedy, Cabeza and Crabtree were all 2-1.
Girls' Wrestling
- Asheboro’s Andrea Thomas (1st, 122-126), Jordin Stroud (2nd, 181-200), Adalicia Vazquez (3rd, 137-151), Addison Dixon (4th, 122-126) and Alaina Scherer (4th, 206-235) placed in the Cold Turkey/Zach Thornburg Memorial Invitational.
Eastern Randolph’s Katie Crabtree (3rd, 110-120) also placed.
- Trinity beat East Davidson 24-18. Layla Vasquez, Bliss Joyce, Daniella Hernandez and Brianna Joyce won for Trinity.
- Scherer, Emma Redding and Johmalys Marcado won their contests in Asheboro’s 48-18 loss to Oak Grove.
Boys' Swimming
- Wheatmore won a PAC meet at High Point Swim Club.
Winning events for Wheatmore were the 200-medley relay (Jack Tobey, Landon Weeks, Colten Osborne, Jayden Grant), William York (200 free), Weeks (50 free), Osborne (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke), York (100 free), and the 400 free relay (York, Jaden Kilcullen, Weeks, Osborne).
Winning events for Randleman were Cannon Eggleston (200 individual medley) and Reid Herring (100 back).
Winning events for Providence Grove were Austin Williams (400 free), and the 200 free relay (Williams, Gage Underwood, Jackson McIlquham, Cooper Wright).
Girls' Swimming
- Wheatmore won a PAC meet at High Point Swim Club.
Winning events for Wheatmore were the 200-medley relay (Jillian Wolfe, Paislee Hollifield, Sydney Hall, Sophie Williamson), Hollifield (200 free, 400 free), Wolfe (200 individual medley, 100 back), Hall (50 free, 100 free), and the 200 free relay (Wolfe, Williamson, Hollifield, Hall),
Winning for Uwharrie Charter was Morgan Becker (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke).
Winning for Randleman was the 400 free relay (Emma Herring, Layla York, Samantha Marin, Kendall Fortson).
