Here’s a recap of last week in local high school sports.

 

Volleyball

- Karrington Batten had a huge double-double of 24 kills and 11 digs along with 4 aces plus a block in Trinity’s 25-13, 27-25, 25-12 sweep of Eastern Randolph. Kaitlyn McCoy contributed 12 kills, 9 digs and an ace. Avery Moffitt had 9 kills and an ace. Avalynn Johnson had 32 assists and a pair of aces. Faith Powell had 17 digs while Mya Hooker had 5 kills and 2 blocks.

Cora Sparrow had 7 kills and 2 blocks for Eastern Randolph. Callie Craven and Katelyn Brown both had four kills. Craven also served an ace.

- Lara Wiseman struck nine kills in Providence Grove’s 25-16, 25-12, 23-25, 25-13 victory over Wheatmore. Kailey Brown had 7 kills, 16 assists and 2 aces. Riley Mazzarone had 21 assists, 20 digs and 2 aces. Mailey Way had 18 digs while Maggie Freeman had 7 kills and 2 blocks. Peyton Whitaker had 6 kills and 4 blocks.

- Lia George’s double-double of 16 kills and 10 digs helped carry Asheboro to a 25-21, 25-17, 25-23 sweep of North Davidson. Emma Kate Forester had 9 kills and 6 blocks. Anna Grace LeRoy had 20 assists and 7 digs. Eva Vuncannon had 14 assists and 2 aces. Emma Ingold had 5 kills and 3 aces. Ady Scherer had 5 blocks and Emma Little provided 16 digs.

- Camden Scott got 21 kills and 30 digs in Randleman’s 25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-12 loss to Cornerstone Charter. Hailey Hinshaw had 20 kills and 10 digs. Camryn Vickery had 46 assists, 13 digs and 2 aces. Natalie Roach had 24 digs and Kadie Green had 23. Ava Jones had 6 kills, 3 blocks and 3 aces.

- Forester had 14 kills, 7 blocks and 3 aces in Asheboro’s 25-12, 11-25, 25-12, 25-19 win over Ledford. Little had 10 digs and a pair of aces. George had 8 kills and 8 digs. LeRoy had 17 assists while Vuncannon had 14 assists and 3 aces.

- Scott produced 17 kills and 9 digs in Randleman’s 25-19, 25-17, 25-18 sweep of Eastern Randolph. Hinshaw had a double-double of 13 kills and 12 digs. Vickery had 39 assists, 11 digs and 2 aces. Green had 20 digs while Roach got 19 kills and served 4 aces. Ava Jones added 5 kills and 2 aces.

- Gracie Hodgin had 17 kills and 4 aces as Southwestern Randolph outlasted Providence Grove 23-25, 26-28, 25-21, 25-15, 15-3. Jade Matias had 10 kills while Kinin Hulin had 9 kills and 3 blocks. Cheyenne Dixon had 7 kills and 4 aces. Caroline Cagle had seven kills.

Wiseman led Providence Grove with 12 kills while Brown supplied 11 kills, 14 assists and 15 digs.  Way had 36 digs. Callie Hodges had 18 digs and 2 aces.Mazzarone had 25 assists and 15 digs. Freeman had 4 kills and 3 blocks.

 

Tennis

- Danna Cobb, Karla Rios, Jacey Wilson, Selina Arroyo and Kayla Neam won in singles as Trinity beat Southwestern Randolph 8-1. Also winning were the doubles teams of Cobb/Arroyo and Wilson/Neam and Hill/Williams.

SWR’s Lexi Owen won in singles. 

- Rios, Wilson, Arroyo and Neam won in singles as Trinity edged Uwharrie Charter 5-4. Winning in double for the Bulldogs was the team of Neam/Wilson.

- Blair Thomas and Malaika Khan won singles matches as Asheboro edged Uwharrie Charter 5-4. Asheboro’s doubles teams of Malaika Khan/Charlotte Smith, Yusra Khan/Thomas and Franchesca Piansay/Madalynn Adams, enabling AHS to pull out the win.

- Caroline Farlow, Larson Kelly, Scarlett Kyle, Emily Hamilton, Ashlynn Harbor and Owen took singles wins as Southwestern Randolph beat Randleman 7-2. The doubles team of Jillian Cox/Brookelynn Payne won as well.

Randleman’s doubles teams of Akins/Cummings and Samuels/Davis won.

- Farlow, Kelly, Kyle, Owen and Harbor all won in singles as Southwestern Randolph beat North Carolina Leadership Academy 8-1. The teams of Harbor/Kelly, Emily Hamilton/Kyle and Jillian Cox/Owen swept the doubles.

- Arielle Turgeon, Tatum Wagner and Annslee Billings won in singles as Wheatmore edged West Davidson 5-4. The teams of Turgeon/Wagner and Zoey Bugg/Macey Tew won in doubles.

 

Soccer

- Aaron Avina and Jonathan Lopez Degollado both scored two goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 6-2 win over Trinity. Yaekl Rebollar Diaz and Fernando Hernandez got the other goals. Lopez Degollado had two assists. Braydon Tyl and Hernandez each had one assist.

- Saul Cortes scored two goals in Providence Grove’s come-from-behind 3-2 win over Uwharrie Charter. Jonathan Cortes got the other goal. Saul Cortes, Jonathan Cortes and Jefferson Vargus had the assists. Uwharrie Charter led 2-1 at halftime.

- Cam Letterlough scored four goals in Asheboro’s 7-0 rout of North Moore. Diego Bustamante tallied two goals and Diego Morales had one. Braulio Gutierrez had three assists. Alexander Diaz, Gerrardo Medina Chi and Bustamante all had one assist.

 

Boys' Cross Country

- Providence Grove was the winning team and Randleman’s Freddie Mercado took the overall title in a PAC meet at Wheatmore. The rest of the top five were Austin Luck (Uwharrie Charter), Tyler McCormick (Wheatmore), Meshack Butler (Providence Grove) and Jedidiah Dake (Randleman).

 

Girls' Cross Country

- Wheatmore won a PAC meet at home and Providence Grove’s Laurel Bernhardt was the overall winner. The rest of the top five were Jazmin Palma (Uwharrie Charter), Scarlett Hildreth (Wheatmore), Madison Hill (Trinity) and Lyndsay Browder (Providence Grove).
