Cougars remain unbeaten

Emme Mazzarone struck out 44 batters as Providence Grove went 2-1 on the week. SWR sophomore Macie Crutchfield had 25 Ks in two of three wins as the Cougars improved to 8-0. 

A look at those highlights and more for the week: 

*Eastern Randolph stung Southwestern Randolph for two runs in the first inning but the Cougars quickly recovered and rolled to a 7-3 win behind Crutchfield’s six-hitter. The sophomore ace struck out 12 and didn't issue a walk. Carleigh Whitson led the offense by going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Kami Dunn was 2-for-3 and had a pair of stolen bases. 

Addie Flinchum was 3-for-3 with an RBI to lead Eastern Randolph. She also went the distance in the circle, allowing four earned runs and striking out eight.

*Mazzarone hurled a shutout with 15 strikeouts as Providence Grove beat Uwharrie Charter 4-0. Devon Kelly, Callie Lambert and Gracie Smith all had two hits. Kelly had a triple and Lambert had a double.

*Carmen Turgeon and Hannah Shoe each had two hits in Wheatmore’s 4-3 loss to East Davidson. Avery Dukes doubled in a run.

*Molly Bulla pitched a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts as Uwharrie Charter beat Eastern Randolph 4-2. Kynley Brewer had three hits, including a double, and RBI. 

Dori Luther and Addie Flinchum each had two hits, including a triple, and an RBI for Eastern Randolph. Skylar Pugh allowed one earned run and struck out 17.

*Alyssa Harris fired a five-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts in Southwestern Randolph’s 12-0 win over Wheatmore. Alley Lowe had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Caressa King had a two-run inside-the-park home run and Maddie Varner tripled in a run.

*Saniyah Deloatch had three RBIs in Randleman’s five-inning 15-0 win over Trinity. Makayla Striblin had two hits and an RBI. Sarah Norton pitched three innings, striking out six. Adriana Willard pitched two innings, striking out three.

*Mazzarone allowed one earned run and struck out 12 in Providence Grove’s 2-1 loss to McMichael. She also had two hits.

*Jordan Booker was 3-for-4 with an RBI in Randleman’s 10-3 loss to Ledford. Lyric Chrisco had two hits — a double and triple — and an RBI. Chenleigh Robinson went 2-for-2.

*Macie Crutchfield tossed a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts in Southwestern Randolph's 1-0, 10-inning win over Oak Grove. Whitson drove in Dunn for the walk-off win in the bottom of the 10th.

*Brooklyn Jones was 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBIs as Eastern Randolph overwhelmed Trinity 20-4. Addie Flinchum had two doubles and an RBI. Bailey Herring had two hits, including a triple, and 2 RBIs. Pugh had two hits and two RBIs. Lanie McDaniel had two hits and an RBI while Hailey Ritter walloped an inside-the-park home run.

Karrington Batten had two hits and two RBIs for Trinity.

*Mazzarone hurled a complete game with 17 strikeouts in Providence Grove’s 6-2 win over Randleman. She also had a triple and RBI. Leela Von Der Hey was 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBIs. Mailey Way got two hits and three RBIs. 

*Kenzie Hill, Kaitlyn West, Aubrie Kaufman, Brewer and Bulla all had two hits in Uwharrie Charter’s 11-1 win over Wheatmore.

Arielle Turgeon had a hit and RBI for Wheatmore.
