Is a look at last week’s results, including soccer playoffs and one team’s start to the basketball season.

Soccer

- Asheboro’s dream season came to a heartbreaking conclusion when Western Alamance rallied to down the Blue Comets 4-3 in overtime in the 3-A state championship game.

The Blue Comets led 3-0 at halftime on goals by Cam Letterlough, Ozmar Martinez and Diego Bustamante. Letterlough’s goal was his 78th of the season, which is the fourth-best single-season total in NCHSAA history.

But Letterlough suffered a hamstring injury early in the second half and his mobility was greatly reduced.

Western Alamance scored two goals within the first five minutes of the second half and got the tying goal in the 78th minute. The Warriors got the game-winner in the extra period.

Asheboro (27-3) had beaten Western Alamance 4-3 in the regular season, handing the Warriors their only loss.

- Southwestern Randolph fell 3-1 to Clinton in the 2-A state championship game in Charlotte.

The Cougars (24-2) tied the game in the 17th minute when Fernando Hernandez scored, with Jonathan Lopez getting the assist. That goal came just 27 seconds after Clinton took the lead.

Clinton regained the lead in the 37th minute.

Southwestern Randolph keeper Jonathan Perez Dominguez was credited with nine saves.
