Here are some highlights from last week’s Randolph County prep football action.
Northern Guilford 31, Asheboro 27
Asheboro quarterback Dallas Brinton threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another in the previously undefeated Blue Comets’ 31-27 loss to Northern Guilford. Brinton was 14-of-20 for 172 yards, with touchdown passes going to Garrison Cheek and Jayden Spruill. On the ground, he ran 26 times for 132 yards. Spruill had 5 catches for 88 yards.
The Blue Comets led 7-0 in the first quarter before eventually falling behind 31-14. They closed the gap with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Providence Grove 23, West Davidson 22
Carson Jones kicked a 41-yard field goal and Holden Swift secured a late interception as Providence Grove (4-2) rallied to beat West Davidson 23-22. West Davidson falls to 3-3 on the season. Jackson Lawver threw touchdown passes to Andrew Thomas and Swift. Thomas also had a rushing touchdown.
East Davidson 28, Trinity 20
Zaire Gill caught a touchdown pass from Khad’n Fuller and added a rushing touchdown in Trinity’s 28-20 loss to East Davidson. It was East Davidson's first win of the season, moving to 1-5. Trinity slipped to 1-5 overall.
Thomasville 37, Wheatmore 19
Connor Benton threw a touchdown pass and ran for another in Wheatmore’s 37-19 loss to Thomasville (3-3). Wheatmore remains winless at 0-6. Gavin McPherson caught the touchdown pass. Colin Dodd had an interception.
Eastern Randolph 38, Northwood 0
Eastern Randolph opened league action in the Four Rivers Conference with a 38-0 shellacking of Northwood. The Wildcats, sitting at 5-2, host Southwestern Randolph (4-2) Friday night in what could be the deciding factor in the conference race. The Cougars had a bye on Friday.
