Football roundup: SW Randolph, Randleman, Eastern Randolph winners in Week 1

Southwestern Randolph posted an opening day shutout to give Cougars’ Coach Seth Baxter his 100th career win. Eastern Randolph and Randleman opened with wins as well. Here’s a look at some of the highlights from those games. No other team reported results.

SW Randolph 30, East Davidson 0

Brody Sheppard ran 14 times for 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Southwestern Randolph walloped East Davidson 30-0. Sheppard also had two two-point conversions. Levi Dalke threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Devonte Dukes and had a rushing touchdown. Dalke was 8-of-14 for 121 yards with one interception. Matthew Allred, Elijah Sykes and Devonte Jenkins led the defense.

Randleman 31, Providence Grove 14

John Kirkpatrick was 22-of-26 for 274 yards in Randleman’s 31-14 win over Providence Grove. Connor Cassidy had 2 receptions for 64 yards. Kayden Saunders had 76 yards rushing on 9 carries.

Jackson Lawver was 9-of-16 for 108 yards to lead the Patriots, who also got 82 yards on 10 carries from Andrew Thomas. 

The teams combined for 243 yards in penalties.

Eastern Randolph 20, Southern Alamance 8

James Combs ran 23 yards for a touchdown on the opening possession of the game as Eastern Randolph downed Southern Alamance 20-8. Colby Walker had 150 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. Ford also had an interception.

■ East Rowan 20, Wheatmore 13 — East Rowan ended an 18-game losing streak, winning with a TD in the final 30 seconds.

■ South Davidson 21, Trinity 0 — The Wildcats won their first game in more than a year.
