Garrison hits 70 mark for 2nd straight season

Wheatmore’s Ellie Garrison reached 70 goals for the second straight season with two regular season games remaining. That and more in this week’s roundup.

 

SOCCER

 

*Macy Allred scored three goals and Sadie Mabe had two in Southwestern Randolph’s 9-0 runaway over Eastern Randolph. Jordin George, Bella McNamee, Madison Blankenship and Lucy Griffith also scored.

 

*Aaliyah Loveday and Taryn Waugh each scored two goals in Providence Grove’s 4-0 win over Trinity.

 

*Jazmin Palma had two goals in Uwharrie Charter's 4-2 loss to Randleman.

 

*Ellie Garrison scored five goals and had a pair of assists in Wheatmore’s 14-0 rout of Eastern Randolph. Summer Bowman had two goals and four assists for the Warriors. Michelle Garcia also scored two goals. Sarah Spoone, Natalie Bowman, Kynnedi Routh, Alby Pulaski and Izabella Ringley all had one goal.

 

*Ava Cugino scored three goals and Katie Jaimes had two in Uwharrie Charter's 9-0 win over Eastern Randolph. Kendall Jarrell, Reese Craven, Lily Charlesworth and Palma all had one goal.

 

*Rori Luther and Noelle Swaim scored the goals in Providence Grove’s 2-0 win over Randleman.

 

*Summer Bowman scored three goals and Garrison had two in Wheatmore’s 9-0 win over Southwestern Randolph. Mikalah Wells and Ringley each recorded one goal. The Warriors clinched the PAC-7 championship with the win.

 

*Garrison blistered the nets for six more goals, giving her 70 for the season in Wheatmore’s 9-0 blanking of Uwharrie Charter. It was the 2-A defending state champions’ 42nd consecutive win.

 

GOLF

 

*Ryan Marshall shot a 72 to earn co-medalist honors and helped lead Wheatmore to a 10-stroke win over Eastern Randolph in the PAC-7 championship at Holly Ridge. 

 

Eastern Randolph’s Connor Carter matched Marshall with a 72. Brandon Davis of Providence Grove was third with an 82.

 

TRACK AND FIELD

 

*Mark Valentino (boys 200 meters), Connor Adams (boys long jump), Jalaya Showers (girls 100 meters), Nicolas Chavez (boys 300 meter hurdles), Rebecca Wilson (girls 100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles, high jump) and Lance Everhart (boys pole vault) won for Asheboro in the MPC championships. The Blue Comet girls also won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

 

TENNIS

 

*Trinity (6-0 to West Stokes) and Southwestern Randolph (6-0 to Burns) both fell in the first round of the 2-A dual team state playoffs. Uwharrie Charter (9-0 to Bishop McGuinness) lost in the first round of the 1-A dual team state playoffs.
