Local athletes earn top honors on all-conference fall sports teams

Basketball, wrestling and other winter sports are in full swing. And numerous all-conference teams have recognized standout athletes in the fall sports. Here’s a recap.

ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS

Football   

■ FOUR RIVERS CONFERENCE — Eastern Randolph’s Cade McCallum was named Offensive Player of the Year as the Wildcats swept the top honors in the Four Rivers Conference. James Combs was named Defensive Player of the Year, Joel Salinas was named Specialist of the Year and Burton Cates was selected Coach of the Year.

Joining them on the all-conference team were Kobe Walker, Eber Castanon, Maddox Carson, Caden Revelle, Cainan Glover, Aidan Goodman, Peyton Taylor, Zeb Meadows, Zuri Francis, Kageon Brown, Jackson Bare and Peyton Dewitt. Donnell Watson was honorable mention.

Southwestern Randolph players making all-conference were Brody Sheppard, Nathan Garner, Devonte Dukes, Levi Dalke, Kaiden Mabe, Logan Marsh, Trivette Kennedy, Colton McKee, Dakota Dunn and Dallas Rambo. Romeo Chisolm was honorable mention.

■  CENTRAL CAROLINA CONFERENCE —Providence Grove’s Jackson Lawver was named Central Carolina Conference Offensive Player of the Year while the Patriots’ Cody Moran was named Coach of the Year.

Also making the all-CCC offense from Providence Grove were Nick Straughn, Walker Minton, Wyatt Brinkley, Holden Swift, Carson Jones and Andrew Thomas.

Wheatmore players making the all-CCC offense were Connor Benton, Maddox Russo, Kenny Hoover, Bentley Mills and Collin Dodd.

Khad’n Fuller, Max Kendall and Zaire Gill made the all-CCC offense from Trinity.

■ Providence Grove’s Connor Haithcock was named Defensive Player of the Year in the CCC. 

Jameson Summey, Landon Fox, Jacob Flinchum, Chase Collins, Charles Villaggio and Easton Ibe also made the all-CCC defense from Providence Grove.

Making the all-CCC defense from Wheatmore were Noah Wyrick, Seth Hollern and Zach Helton.

Jax Dillard made the all-CCC defense from Trinity.

■ PIEDMONT ATHLETIC CONFERENCE — Randleman’s John Kirkpatrick was named Offensive Player of the Year in the Piedmont Athletic Conference. The Tigers’ Connor Cassidy, Nazir Staton, Brandon Boone, Tate Andrews, Ryan McCauley, Kaden Beasley, Pacey Wagner, Skyler Poe and Jamari Rice joined Kirkpatrick on the all-PAC team.

Soccer 

■ FOUR RIVERS CONFERENCE —State champion Southwestern Randolph made a clean sweep of the top honors in the Four Rivers Conference. Fernando Hernandez was named Offensive Player of the Year, Noah Freeman was named Defensive Player of the Year, Jonathan Perez was named Goalkeeper of the Year and Jimmy Walker was named Coach of the Year. The Cougars’ Aaron Avina, Chris Betancourt, Braydon Tyl, Yael Ortiz and Jonathan Lopez were named all-conference.

Eastern Randolph’s Danilo Perilla Perez and Joel Medina Salinas were named all-conference.

■ TRIAD ATHLETIC CONFERENCE —Asheboro’s Ozmar Martinez was named Offensive Player of the Year in the Triad Athletic Conference. The Blue Comets’ Alexander Perez, Carlos Gonzalez, Juan Macias and Ivan Castaneda were named to the all-conference team.

■ PIEDMONT ATHLETIC CONFERENCE — Randleman’s Ronald Murillo, Owen Leonard, Mitchell Carranza, Dilan Chavero and Deaton Davis were named to the all-PAC team.

■ CENTRAL CAROLINA CONFERENCE —Trinity’s Jeremy Cruz, Gio Jaimes, Mario Garcia, Trey Groves, Cash Harris and Cayden Pugh were named to the all-CCC team. Jaimes was runner-up Defensive Player of the Year.

Seth Johnson, Saul Cortes and Kevin Bautista made the all-CCC team from Providence Grove.

Laurel Ortiz Suarez, Carter Queen and Easton Dewitt made the all-CCC team from Wheatmore.

Volleyball 

■ CENTRAL CAROLINA CONFERENCE — Providence Grove’s Tim Brown was named Coach of the Year in the CCC and Lara Wiseman was named runner-up Player of the Year.

The Patriots’ Adalyn Whitaker and Kolbi Jo Lineberry also made the all-CCC team.

Wheatmore’s Lanie McMahan was named to the all-CCC team.

■ TRIAD ATHLETIC CONFERENCE — Asheboro’s Kelly Smith was named Coach of the Year in the TAAC. The Blue Comets’ Lia George, Ady Scherer, Emma-Kate Forester and Emma Little were named all-conference.

■ FOUR RIVERS CONFERENCE — Uwharrie Charter swept the top honors in the FRC with Caroline Way getting Offensive Player of the Year, Sadie Upchurch being chosen Defensive Player of the Year and Lee Kennell getting Coach of the Year.

■ PIEDMONT ATHLETIC CONFERENCE — Randleman received all the top awards in the PAC with Natalie Roach being named Offensive Player, Kadie Green being named Defensive Player of the Year and Kerry Mitchell getting Coach of the Year. The Tigers’ Lilah Covington, Karrington Jones and Alexis Vaughn were named all-conference.

Boys Cross Country 

■ CENTRAL CAROLINA CONFERENCE — Wheatmore’s Ayden Fitzgerald was named Runner of the Year in the CCC. 

The Warriors’ Tyler McCormick, Ryan Mabe and Daylan Rada also made the all-CCC team.

■ FOUR RIVERS CONFERENCE — Eastern Randolph’s Lucas Kennedy and Southwestern Randolph’s Andrew Ormond were named to the all-Four Rivers Conference team.

■ PIEDMONT ATHLETIC CONFERENCE — Randleman’s Jedediah Dake and Jack Gilmartin were named to the all-PAC team.

Girls Cross Country 

■ CENTRAL CAROLINA CONFERENCE — Providence Grove’s Laural Bernhardt was named Runner of the Year in the CCC.

Wheatmore’s Scarlett Hildreth, Lydia Madison and Emmie Messner were named to the all-CCC team.

■ FOUR RIVERS CONFERENCE — Uwharrie Charter’s Jackson Re, Gracilyn Elliott and Olivia Turner were named to the all-Four Rivers Conference team.

Southwestern Randolph’s Genevieve Cranford was also all-conference.

■ PIEDMONT ATHLETIC CONFERENCE — Randleman’s Reagan Henley and Emma Herring were named to the all-Piedmont Athletic Conference team.

Girls Golf 

■ CENTRAL CAROLINA CONFERENCE — Providence Grove’s Megan Oakley was named Player of the Year in the CCC and the Patriots’ Allie Nelson was chosen Coach of the Year.

The Patriots’ Adison Johnson and Olivia Coleman joined them on the all-CCC team.

Wheatmore’s Kyndal Kinley was named to the all-CCC team.

■ PIEDMONT ATHLETIC CONFERENCE — Randleman’s Layla White was named to the all-PAC team.

■ FOUR RIVERS CONFERENCE — Southwestern Randolph’s Dani Jaecke was named Golfer of the Year in the Four Rivers Conference and the Cougars’ Shawn Hogan was named Coach of the Year. The Cougars’ Lucy York was also named to the all-Four Rivers team.

Girls Tennis 

■ CENTRAL CAROLINA CONFERENCE — Trinity’s Kayla Neam was named runner-up Player of the Year in the CCC and the Bulldogs’ Zach Brown was named runner-up Coach of the Year.

Also making the all-CCC team from Trinity were Mackensie Case, Carolina Case and Jacey Wilson.

Providence Grove’s Callie Lambert, Carly Lambert, Alisa Shaw and Liz Shoe were named to the all-CCC team.

Wheatmore’s Tatum Wagner and Leah Puckett were named to the all-CCC team.

■ TRIAD ATHLETIC CONFERENCE — Asheboro’s Charlotte Smith, Mady Adams and Anson Frazier were named to the all-TAAC team.

■ FOUR RIVERS CONFERENCE — Uwharrie Charter’s Ashleigh Paige was named Player of the Year in the all-FRC and Southwestern Randolph’s Courtney Kelly was named Coach of the Year.

Larson Kelly (SWR), Scarlet Kyle (SWR), Mary-Maxton Andrews (SWR), Macie Epps (UCA) and Bella Branson (UCA) made all-conference.

■ PIEDMONT ATHLETIC CONFERENCE — Randleman’s Lily Cozart, Bella Bryan and Baylee Atkins were named to the all-PAC team.

LAST WEEK’S RESULTS

Boys Basketball

■ Pacey Wagner scored 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting as Randleman beat Providence Grove 73-66. Trey Burnett scored 15 points while Nazir Staton had 11 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Connor Cassidy had 7 points and 11 rebounds.

Cam Jones and Will Dabbs led Providence Grove with 16 points apiece. Andrew Thomas had 15 points and 5 steals. Gabe McKoy had 9 points and 8 assists.

■ Thomas scored 15 points in Providence Grove’s 82-48 loss to Williams. Jones had 14 points while Dabbs had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

■ Jordan Starkey scored 18 points in Wheatmore’s 44-39 win over Southwestern Randolph. Collin Dodd had 9 points and 4 rebounds.

Kenan Sugg led Southwestern Randolph with 9 points and Levi Dalke had 8.

■ Max Routh scored 11 points and Jackson Lee had 9 in Trinity’s 52-44 loss to North Moore.

■ Darrion Johnson scored 13 points in Asheboro’s 65-23 rout of Rockingham County. Jewel Barrett-Riggins and Zak Blackwell both had 10 points.

■ Routh had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in Trinity’s 69-50 loss to South Rowan. Zaire Gill had 8 points and 13 rebounds. Josh Polanco added eight points.

■ Starkey scored 25 points as Wheatmore held off Forbush 59-53. Avery Ivey had 15 points and 9 assists. Dodd had 10 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

■ Truman Auman scored 14 points and had 9 rebounds in Wheatmore’s 63-51 loss to Chatham Charter. Ivey had 12 points and 4 assists. Starkey had 8 points and 3 assists.

Girls Basketball 

■ Madison Hill scored 24 points and had 8 steals in Trinity’s 45-25 romp over North Moore. Ava Nance added eight points.

■ Jordin George scored 23 points as Southwestern Randolph edged Wheatmore 39-36. 

Kenley Davis led Wheatmore with 13 points and Madilyn Mullinix added 9.

■ Calli Craven scored 24 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in Eastern Randolph’s 59-40 loss to Cary Academy. Raegan Beaver had 10 points and 4 steals.

■ Naveah Staples scored 20 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 48-43 loss to Eastern Guilford.

■ Ady Scherer scored 12 points in Asheboro’s 48-23 loss to Rockingham County. 

■ Beaver had 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals in Eastern Randolph’s 45-44 loss to Chatham Central. Roxanne Davis posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds along with a pair of steals. Kaitlin Brown had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals.

■ Scherer scored 22 points while Maliyah Brady had 15 and MacKenzie 14 in Asheboro’s 64-30 win over Trinity.

Hill led Trinity with eight points.

Boys Wrestling 

■ Asheboro beat Parkland 60-18. Winning for the Blue Comets were Omar Basyouny, Dylan Espinoza, Oscar Zelaya, Kaylem Butler, Jose Martinez, Jeffrey Harper, Trent King, Quanta McRae, Aaron Moran and Owen Chidester.

■ Eastern Randolph beat Southwestern Randolph (50-30) and West Stokes (48-32) in a tri-match hosted by the Wildcats. Armani Tapia-Sosa, Lucas Kennedy, David Lambright, Ethan Thomas, Trever Crabtree, Jamie Crabtree, Hayden Payne, and Maddox Johnson were 2-0 for the Wildcats. Zeph Dunn was 1-1.

Nathan Garner, Dallas Rambo and Rafael Flores were 2-0 for SWR. Ryder DeGraff, Owen Pearson, Jamir Jaimes, Dante Lattanzi, Ryan Owens, Leland Davis, Aksel Valenzuela, Carter Horsefield and Kayden Plummer were 1-1.

Girls Wrestling 

■ Asheboro beat South Davidson 36-30. Elena Alvarez, Andreona Thornton, Brianna Munoz, Dixie Brower, Andrea Thornton and Wendy Servellon won for the Blue Comets.
