Asheboro continued its unbeaten season in volleyball, as Southwestern Randolph did in soccer. Here are some highlights from games involving those teams and many others from last week.
Volleyball
■ Lia George had 10 kills, 15 digs and 4 aces in Asheboro’s 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-21) sweep of Eastern Randolph. Kailey Brown had 9 kills and 10 assists. Adalynn Scherer got 7 kills and 2 blocks. Emma Kate Forester contributed 4 kills and 5 blocks. Emma Little had 19 digs while Eva Vuncannon had 15 assists and 3 aces.
■ George had 10 kills, 4 aces and 15 digs as Asheboro beat Trinity 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-19). Forester had 15 kills, 4 blocks and 2 aces. Scherer had 13 kills and 5 blocks. Little had 21 digs and Vuncannon had 22 assists.
■ Lara Wiseman had 15 kills while Cheyenne Collins supplied 18 assists as Providence Grove swept Jordan-Matthews 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-20).
■ Wiseman had 10 kills in Providence Grove’s 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-22) sweep of Eastern Randolph. Adalyn Whitaker had 8 kills and 4 blocks while Collins had 16 assists. Callie Hodges had 22 digs and Kolbi Jo Lineberry had 7 kills.
■ Caroline Way had 7 kills and 4 aces in Uwharrie Charter’s 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-12) sweep of Wheatmore. Emory Johnson had 3 kills and 4 aces. Carly Rush had 2 kills and 5 aces. Sadie Upchurch had 4 aces and Aly Dalton had 3.
Alexis Hollifield led Wheatmore with 5 kills and 3 aces. Kaelyn Whiteheart and Lexi Kiel each had two kills.
■ Hayli Cox had 16 kills, 4 aces and 2 blocks as Trinity beat North Moore 3-1 (14-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17. Avery Moffitt had 13 kills, 15 digs and 4 aces. Mya Hooker had 9 kills while Dakota Odell had 8 kills and 2 aces. Avalynn Johnson had 28 assists and Charlee Phillips got 16 digs.
■ Scherer had 15 kills, 2 blocks and 2 aces in Asheboro’s 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-22) sweep of Jordan-Matthews. George had 8 kills and 16 digs. Brown had 6 kills and 18 assists. Forester had 6 kills and 3 blocks. Vuncannon got 19 assists and Emma Little had 18 digs. Cora Little had 4 kills and 5 digs.
■ Way had 15 kills and Johnson had 20 assists as Uwharrie Charter swept Southeast Guilford 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-19). Rush had 9 kills and 13 digs. Upchurch had 13 digs and 7 asssists.
Soccer
■ Chris Betancourt scored two goals as Southwestern Randolph blanked Gray Stone Day 6-0. Fernando Hernandez, Alex Aviles-Hernandez, Yael Rebollar-Ortiz and Kevin Garcia got the other goals. Aaron Avina and Hernandez both had two assists while Griffin Hall and Rebollar-Ortiz each had one.
■ Seth Johnson had a huge night, scoring all the goals in Eastern Randolph’s 5-5 tie with Providence Grove. Kevin Bautista had two assists while Saul Cortes and Sam Peters each had one. Aldo Rubio made 11 saves.
■ Cortes scored the goal in Providence Grove’s 10-1 loss to Jordan-Matthews.
■ Ozmar Martinez and Carlos Gonzalez both scored two goals in Asheboro’s 4-3 win over Ledford. Juan Macias, Alexander Diaz, Jonathan Ortega and Jonathan Gutierrez Alonso had the assists.
■ Carter Queen and Easton Dewitt both scored two goals as Wheatmore routed South Davidson 9-0. Jaylen Aquilina, Jovan Balderas, Byron Figueroa, Gavin Kiziah and Eli Bailey got the other goals. Queen had 3 assists and Dewitt had 2. Grayson Carter and Figueroa both got 1 assist. Logan Hughes made 3 saves.
■ Isaac Garcia, Jomar Gonzalez, Junior Cruz,
Aidan Almond and J. Cazarin Perez scored the goals as Uwharrie Charter blanked Oak Ridge 5-0. Henry Mercado had 2 assists while Cazarin Perez and Garcia each had 1. Brice Pearson made 8 saves.
Tennis
■ Tatum Wagner, Taylor Webb, Macey Tew,
Leah Puckett, Annslee Billings and Emma Davidson swept the singles in Wheatmore’s 9-0 win over Thomasville. The teams of Emma Gower/Makenna Lawrence, Raydan Barber/Ava Botts and Reagan Stinnett/Danielle Perry swept the doubles.
■ Kayla Neam, Selina Arroyo, Melanie Wilson, Makensie Case and Carolina Case won in singles as Trinity downed East Davidson 8-1. The doubles teams of Jacey Wilson/Neam, Alexi Austin/Arroyo and Case/Case took the doubles.
■ Callie Lambert and Carly Lambert won singles contests in Providence Grove’s 5-4 loss to West Davidson. The doubles teams of Alisa Shaw/Liz Shoe and Lambert/Lambert won in doubles.
■ Charlotte Smith, Madalynn Adams, Guadalupe Soto, Delaney Nall and Anson Frazier won in singles as Asheboro beat North Moore 8-1. The teams of Adams/Soto, Smith/Nall and Victoria Rivera/Frazier swept the doubles.
■ Soto, Nall, Frazier and Rivera won in singles as Asheboro beat Western Guilford 7-2. The doubles teams of Smith/Nall, Adams/Soto and Frazier/Rivera won their contests.
Boys Cross Country
■ Asheboro won a three-team meet with Jordan-Matthews and Southwestern Randolph. The Blue Comets’ Jacob Leveille and Ellis were third and fourth, respectively. Southwestern Randolph’s Andrew Ormond finished in second place, one second behind overall winner Elvis Nino of Jordan-Matthews.
■ Wheatmore placed third in a four-team Central Carolina Conference race. The Warriors’ Ayden Fitzgerald was second overall and Ryan Mabe was seventh.
Girls Cross Country
■ Asheboro beat Southwestern Randolph as Laurel Kingston claimed overall honors. Southwestern Randolph’s Genevieve Cranford was second and the Cougars’ Kyla Farmer was fifth. Asheboro’s Waverly Adams was fifth.
■ Wheatmore was second in a four-team CCC race. The Warriors’ Scarlett Hildreth was second overall, Lydia Madison was sixth and Emmie Messner was eighth.
Girls Golf
■ Providence Grove won a three-team match with Southeast Guilford and Wheatmore at Holly Ridge. The Patriots’ Megan Oakley shot 40 to win medalist honors. Wheatmore’s Kyndal Oakley shot 43.
■ Southwestern Randolph’s Danielle Jaeck took medalist honors with a 42 as the Cougars beat Asheboro.
