Conference championships (baseball and softball tournaments, track meets and golf matches) dominated the week. Here are some key highlights.
Baseball
■ Tate Andrews blasted a grand slam and had an RBI single in Randleman’s 13-3 rout of Ledford. Jake Riddle had three hits, including a double, and RBI. Ashton Poe had two hits and two RBIs, Kyle Dillow and Lincoln Lawson both had two hits. Jackson Hill had a two-run double and John Kirkpatrick contributed an RBI single and pitched a five-inning two-hitter with six strikeouts.
■ Hill went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs as Randleman routed Ledford 15-0 in six innings. Carter Heath was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Andrews was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Jake Riddle pitched a one-hitter over five innings with 7 strikeouts. Andrews pitched the final inning. Poe, Riddle, Dillow and Kirkpatrick had RBI singles.
■ Cade McCallum had four hits and three RBIs as No. 3 Eastern Randoiph thumped No. 2 Uwharrie Charter 12-3 in the Four Rivers Conference Tournament. Chance Holdaway also had four RBIs on three hits, including two doubles, while pitching a complete game with nine strikeouts. Isaiah Batchelor had three hits and two RBIs.
Jake Hunter and Keaton Hill both had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Uwharrie Charter.
■ Carson Williams had a two-run double in No. 3 Southwestern Randolph’s 3-2 loss to No. 1 Northwood in the Four Rivers Conference Tournament. Grant Kirk had a triple. Logan Weidman doubled and pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts.
■ Daniel Jaimes had two hits, including a double, and RBI in No. 2 Asheboro’s 9-3 loss to No. 3 Northern Guilford. Reid Sudduth had an RBI double. Price Kidd had a triple.
■ Walker Parrish had two hits and five RBIs while Brody Little smashed a two-run homer and had an RBI single as No. 1 Trinity pounded No. 4 East Davidson 14-4 in the Central Carolina Conference Tournament. Indiana Hill had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Cohen Wolfe also had two hits. Cameron Hill pitched four shutout innings of relief for the win.
■ Avery Wright, Batchelor and Holdaway had RBI singles in No. 3 Eastern Randolph’s 7-4 win over No. 6 North Moore in the first round of the Four Rivers Conference Tournament. Maddox Dunn pitched three scoreless innings with six strikeouts in relief.
■ Lucas Connor was 3-for-3 with a three-run homer and four RBIs as No. 4 Southwestern Randolph beat No. 5 Jordan-Matthews 9-1 in the first round of the Four Rivers Conference Tournament. Brady Armfield had two doubles, a triple and two RBIs. Kirk had two doubles while Elijah Sykes and Lane Poole had RBI singles. Matthew Blankenship scattered 10 hits over six innings with eight strikeouts.
■ Andrew Thomas had a two-run single in No. 2 Providence Grove’s 7-5 loss to No. 3 West Davidson in the Central Carolina Conference Tournament. Colin Duvall had a pair of doubles and an RBI. Connor Haithcock had two hits.
■ Nathan Oxendine had a homer, double and two RBIs in No. 6 Wheatmore’s 11-10 loss to No. 3 West Davidson in the CCC Tournament. Christian Tuttle, Gavin McPherson and Shannon McCauley had RBI singles.
■ Peyton Williams smashed a solo home run in No. 1 Trinity’s 13-4 loss to No. 3 West Davidson in the CCC Tournament championship game. Grayson Fauber, Indiana Hill and Cohen Wolfe had RBI singles.
■ Bryson Marley struck out nine in 4 2/3 innings as No. 3 Eastern Randolph blasted No. 1 Northwood 11-1 in the Four Rivers Conference Tournament championship game. Dunn was 1-for-3 with three RBIs, including a two-run double. Batchelor had a hit and two RBIs. Miles Cox, Cordero, Holdaway and McCallum had RBI singles. McCallum pitched 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief. It was Eastern Randolph’s ninth consecutive win.
Softball
■ Kinzie Ivey pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts as Randleman beat Ledford 4-2. Kadie Green had a two-run double, Addyson Dees had an RBI double and Kaylee Phillips singled in a run.
■ Kami Dunn had two hits, including a two-run homer, and four RBIs as top-seeded Southwestern Randolph dominated No. 5 North Moore 15-0 in five innings in the Four Rivers Conference Tournament. Bristol Marine had three hits and an RBI. Katelyn West had two hits and an RBI. Nauttica Parrish also had two hits. Chloe Eudy had an RBI double and pitched four innings with five strikeouts. Maddie Strider had an RBI single and Alyssa Harris pitched one inning.
■ Shellee Culler had both Asheboro hits, including a triple, in No. 4 Asheboro’s 15-0 loss to No. 1 Northern Guilford in the TAAC Tournament.
■ Emma Carter had Wheatmore’s only hit in the No. 4 Warriors’ 10-0 loss to No. 1 West Davidson in the CCC Tournament.
■ Callie Lambert was 4-for-4 with a two-run homer and six RBIs in No. 2 Providence Grove’s 12-2 win over No. 3 East Davidson in the CCC Tournament. Adi Johnson had two hits and an RBI. Cailyn York had two hits. Liz Shoe had an RBI single. Campbell Ziemba pitched a four-hitter with one strikeout.
■ Adalyn Boles pitched a three-inning perfect game with five strikeouts as No. 4 Wheatmore blanked No. 6 Thomasville 15-0 in the CCC Tournament. Skylar Pittman smashed a three-run homer and Kylie Hemric got a two-run homer. Scarlet Cross had a two-run double and Emma Gower had an RBI triple. Makenna Lawrence and Boles had RBI singles.
■ Callie Lambert belted a solo home run and had a single as No. 2 Providence Grove fell 7-2 to No. 1 West Davidson in the CCC Tournament championship game.
■ Emory Johnson (double) and Aly Hussey both had two hits in No. 2 Uwharrie Charter’s 8-1 loss to No. 3 Northwood in the Four Rivers Conference Tournament. Meghan Peters had an RBI single.
■ Dees was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs as Randleman overcame Central Davidson 8-6 in eight innings. Ella Rogers went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Phillips was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Kadie Green, Elsie Prince and Ivey all had two hits.
■ Southwestern Randolph erupted for 12 runs in the third inning as the top-seeded Cougars blasted No. 3 Northwood 17-1 in the Four Rivers Conference Tournament championship game. Eudy led the way with a three-run homer. West went 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs while tossing a three-inning no-hitter. Harris and Freeland (two doubles) were both 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Girls Soccer
■ Tatum Wagner and Kayla Rosenbaum scored the goals in Wheatmore’s 2-0 win over West Davidson. Kinsley Davis made four saves.
■ Hallie Meyer, Wagner and Rosenbaum scored the goals as Wheatmore beat Providence Grove 3-0. Emmie Messner had two assists and Nora Partin had one. Davis made four saves.
■ Kayla Hernandez scored two goals and Jordin George had one in Southwestern Randolph’s 3-2 win over Jordan-Matthews. Tallie Emerson, Caroline Becker and George had assists. Campbell Garner had a huge night in the net with 27 saves.
Boys Golf
■ Asheboro’s Brayden Davis shot 77 and tied for third in the Triad Area Athletic Conference championship at Forest Oaks Country Club. Charlie Knott shot 82 and William Tucker had an 88.
■ Providence Grove’s Ethan Porritt was fourth with an 80 in the Central Carolina Conference championship at Sapona. Taylor Turner shot an 86. Wheatmore’s Evan Gordon and Avery Ivey shot 89.
■ Randleman’s Kaden Beasley was fifth with an 85 in the Piedmont Athletic Conference championship at Sapona.
■ Emmitt Frye was the medalist with a 39 as Eastern Randolph beat Central Carolina Academy 173-211 at Quail Ridge Country Club. Tyler Gee shot 40 and Justin Brown had a 45.
Boys Volleyball
■ Jewell Barrett-Riggins had 10 kills, 8 blocks and 4 aces in Asheboro’s 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-19) win over Southeast Alamance. Thomas Vasquez Santos had 9 kills and 3 aces. William Hernandez Miranda had 9 kills and 13 digs. Chase Lewis had 7 kills and 9 blocks. Jonathan Gutierrez Alonso had 16 digs and Ryan Vasquez Santos had 32 assists.
■ Barrett-Riggins posted a double-double of 14 kills and 14 blocks in Asheboro’s 3-2 (25-16, 16-25, 27-25, 11-25, 15-7) loss to Southwest Guilford. Thomas Vasquez Santos had 7 kills and 2 blocks. Nicholas Green had 3 kills and 12 blocks. Miranda had 21 digs while Alonso had 18. Ryan Vasquez Santos had 27 assists and 2 aces.
■ Joshua Prochnau had 5 kills and 3 blocks in Asheboro’s 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-13) win over Thomasville. Miranda had 3 kills while Barrett-Riggins had 2 kills and 3 blocks. Ryan Vasquez Santos had 10 assists and 8 aces. Cesar Medina had 4 aces and Alonso got 7 digs.
Boys Track & Field
■ The CCC held its championship meet at West Davidson. Wheatmore finished second.
Winning for Trinity was Giovanni Jaimes (800 meters).
Winning for Wheatmore were Ayden Fitzgerald (3200 meters) and Noah Wyrick (shot put).
Winning for Providence Grove was Nick Straughn (110-meter hurdles).
■ Asheboro competed in the TAAC championship meet at Southeast Guilford and placed second in the team standings.
Winning for the Blue Comets were Michael Mark (110-meter hurdles) and Aaron Tyson (high jump, triple jump, pole vault).
■ The Four Rivers Conference championship meet was held in Asheboro, with Southwestern Randolph (86) finishing second behind Northwood (203). Eastern Randolph was fourth.
Winning for Southwestern Randolph was the 4x100 relay (Thomas Costello, Leland Davis, Devonte Dukes, Devon Jenkins).
Winning for Eastern Randolph was Caden Revelle (100-meter dash, high jump).
Girls Track & Field
■ The CCC held its championship meet at West Davidson. Wheatmore was second.
Winning for Providence Grove were Laurel Bernhardt (800 meters, 1600 meters), the 4x400 relay and the 4x800 relay.
Winning for Wheatmore were Scarlett Hildreth (3200 meters), Kahmarii McNeill (100-meter hurdles), Lyndsay Browder (300-meter hurdles) and Kylyn Surratt (triple jump).
■ Asheboro competed in the TAAC championship meet at Southeast Guilford and tied for first in the team championship with Northern Guilford.
Winning for the Blue Comets were Jalaya Showers (100-meter dash, long jump), Christy Price (triple jump), Sarah Reeder (pole vault) and Trynitee Bradley (shot put).
■ The Four Rivers Conference championship meet was held in Asheboro, with Eastern Randolph finishing third.
Winning for Southwestern Randolph was Kiersten Litell (100-meter dash, 200-meter dash).
Winning for Eastern Randolph were Roxanne Davis (high jump) and Mirianna Corea (shot put, discus).
College News
■ Former Uwharrie Charter star Molly Bulla and former Southwestern Randolph standout Ky Perdue, who both play for Pfeiffer University, were named to the USA South All-Conference team in softball.
A first team selection, Bulla is 12-4 with a 2.36 earned run average and is hitting .394 with four home runs. Perdue, a second-team pick, is batting .345 and has a .954 fielding percentage at shortstop.
