Here’s a look at some highlights from last week’s local sports action.
Boys Basketball
■ Jewel Barrett-Riggins scored 20 points in Asheboro’s 69-55 win over Thomasville. Nirey White supplied 19 points and Darrion Johnson had 14.
■ Trivett Kennedy scored 15 points and Kenan Sugg had 12 in Southwestern Randolph’s 82-46 loss to Ledford.
■ Avery Ivey poured in 28 points as Wheatmore trounced North Moore 68-48. Jordan Starkey had 13 points and 7 rebounds. Collin Dodd had 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Girls Basketball
■ Callie Craven scored 14 points in Eastern Randolph’s 53-34 loss to Southern Lee.
■ Maliyah Brady led the way with 20 points as Asheboro routed Thomasville 53-18. Laneane Scherer added 17 points and Ady Scherer had 11.
■ Nevaeh Staples scored 16 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 42-21 win over Albemarle. Lainey Thomas had 14 points.

Boys Wrestling
■ Providence Grove was fifth and Asheboro placed ninth in the Tigerland Classic.
Jeremiah Payne and Aiden Poplin were both 3-0, winning their classes for Providence Grove. Ayden Terwilliger and Charles Villagio were both 2-2, finishing fourth. Caden Mercado went 3-2 and Matthew Signor was 2-2.
Oscar Zelaya was 3-0 and took first place for Asheboro. Omar Basyouny went 2-1 and finished second. Quanta McRae went 2-2 and placed fourth. Jeffrey Harper was also 2-2. Dylan Espinoza and Owen Chidester were 1-2.
■ Uwharrie Charter was second in the Red Wolf Invitational at Cedar Ridge.
Paxton Kearns (4-0), Travis Nobles (5-0) and Lorenzo Alston (5-0) all won first place. Caleb Saldana (4-1) placed second. Ayven Virasone Chitavong (3-1), Brennan Worrell (5-1) and Jesse Bowles (4-1) all took third place. Andrew White (3-2) and Rylan Alvarez (3-2) finished fourth. Michael Hardie (5-2) and Ric Riccardella (4-2) placed fifth. Huntley Adock (3-3) finished sixth and Maddox Coble was 1-2.
Brennan Worrell (5-1) and Jesse Bowles (4-1) all took third place. Andrew White (3-2) and Rylan Alvarez (3-2) finished fourth. Michael Hardie (5-2) and Ric Riccardella (4-2) placed fifth. Huntley Adock (3-3) finished sixth and Maddox Coble was 1-2.
Randleman’s Alex Raymundo and Shane Stevens were 3-2. Lloyd Bosan was 2-2. Maxwell Reeser, John Roswick, David Pugh and Caden Littleton were 1-2.
■ Wheatmore was fourth and host Eastern Randolph was sixth in the Cecil Mock Invitational.
Ayden Sumner (3-0) and Dominic Hittepole (2-0) were winners for Wheatmore. Spencer Moore (2-1) and Payton Russo (1-1) finished second. Caben Terry (3-1) was third. Camden Gillespie (3-2), John Wall (1-2) and Brodie Bates (3-2) were fourth. Ben Dudley, Nolan Hammonds and Landon Watkins were 1-2.
Eastern Randolph’s Lucas Kennedy (1-1) and David Lambright (2-1) were second. Trever Crabtree (3-1) was third. Armani Tapia Sosa (2-2) was fourth. JoshuaFoster, Brennan Forrester and Jacob Chavis were 1-2.
■ Trinity swept Hunter Huss (57-21), Bandys (46-36), Charlotte Latin (59-18), Bradford Prep (59-17)and Rutherfordton-Spindale Central (54-23) in the Trojan Duals at Bandys.
Jeven Palmeri, Aiden Burkholder, Stephen Cross, Edgar Vasquez, Omega Edge, Hezekyah Matson, Simeon Hammett and Joseph Trahan were all 5-0 for Trinity, Anees Khan was 4-1. Haris Idrees and Grayson Carroll were 2-3. Trent Walker was 1-4.
■ Trinity swept Bonnie Cone Academy (72-6), Southwestern Randolph (64-15) and Douglas Byrd (72-6) in a quad match hosted by the Bulldogs. Palmeri, Burkholder, Cross, Vasquez, Edge, Walker, Matson, Hammett and Trahan were all 3-0. Anees Khan and Grayson Carroll were 2-0. Haris Khan and Na’gayle Carroll were 1-0. Haris Idrees was 2-1.
Southwestern Randolph was 2-1, with wins over Bonnie Cone Academy (66-6) and Douglas Byrd (60-18). Tyler Taylor, Nathan Garner and Rafael Flores were 3-0. Ryder Degraff, Owen Pearson, Jamir Jaimes, Dante Lattanzi, Ryan Owens, Leland Davis and Kayden Plummer were 2-1. Carter Horsefield was 1-2.
■ Trinity won the Zach Thornburg Memorial and host Asheboro was second.
Palmeri (2-0), Cross (3-0), Burkolder(3-0), Vasquez (2-0), Idrees (2-0), Hammett (2-0), and Trahan (2-0) took first place for Trinity. Ezekiel Martinez (2-1), Edge (2-1),Walker (1-1), Matson (1-1), Addam Bernal (2-1) and Grayson Carroll (1-1) took second place. Khan (1-2) and Nolan Chanthalacksa (1-2) were third.
Asheboro winners were Zelaya (2-0) and Chidester (2-0). McRae (2-1) placed second. Basyouny (3-1), Dylan Espinoza (2-1), Jose Martinez (2-1), Espinoza (2-1) and Aaron Moran (2-1) were third. Javier Castillo (1-2), Harper (1-2) and Jonah Lester (1-2) were fourth.
Southwestern Randolph’s Leland Davis (1-1) and Rafael Flores (1-1) were second. Nathan Garner (1-1) and Kayden Plummer (2-1) were third. Roger Degraff (1-2), Aaron Rosales (1-2), Tyler Taylor (1-2) and Horsefield (1-2) were fourth.
Girls Wrestling
■ Asheboro and Uwharrie Charter tied for sixth in the Red Wolf Girls Invitational at Cedar Ridge.
Grace Redding (3-0) won first place for Asheboro. Andrea Thornton (5-1) and Andreona Thornton (5-1) were second. Yarislady SantiagoRamirez (1-2) was fifth. Elena Alvarez (2-2) was sixth and Briana Barrios was 1-2.
■ Asheboro won the Zach Thornburg Memorial, Trinity was fourth and Southwestern Randolph was sixth.
Andreona Thornton (2-0) and Andrea Thornton (3-0) won for Asheboro. Brianna Munoz (2-1) and Redding (1-1) were second.
Bri Joyce (2-0) won for Trinity and Kenedi Palmer (1-1) was second.
Boys Indoor Track
■ Wheatmore’s Ayden Fitzgerald was fourth in the 3200 meters at the JDL High School Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.
