LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Dozens of baseball and softball results, plus soccer, track and field and golf

A busy, busy week in local sports. Let’s get to a bunch of highlights.

Baseball

■ Peyton Williams hurled a complete game in Trinity’s 11-1 win over Northwood. Cam Hill, Walker Parrish and Quinn Johnson all had two hits.

■ Jake Hunter was 4-for-4 with 5 RBIs and was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts as Uwharrie Charter walloped West Davidson 13-2. Levi Mitchell, Ty McAuley, Grat Dalton and Brody Engle all had two hits.

■ Justin Guerrero had a single, double and RBI in Asheboro’s 5-3 loss to Bishop McGuinness. Sam Gore also had two hits while Gavin Allen had a run-scoring double.

■ Lukas Easterbrook had a triple, single and RBI as Wheatmore beat Jordan-Matthews 10-4. Gavin McPherson had two hits and two RBIs. Grayson Stewart had an RBI single and the Warriors stole 11 bases. Shannon McCauley allowed an unearned run and struck out five in four innings to get the win.

■ Lincoln Coble pitched 6 2/3 innings with 11 strikeouts as Trinity edged Eastern Randolph 3-2. Grayson Fauber got the final out and earned a save. Parrish singled in a run while Cohen Wolfe and Williams each had a double.

Cade McCallum had two hits for Eastern Randolph.

■ Kyle Dillow had two hits and two RBIs as Randleman edged Northwest Guilford 3-2. Tate Andrews pitched 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief with five strikeouts and got the win.

■ Dalton had two hits, including a double, and an RBI as Uwharrie Charter beat South Stanly 6-3. McAualey had an RBI single. Keaton Hill struck out 11 in five innings of one-hit pitching to get the win.

■ Guerrero was 4-for-4 with an RBI while Price Kidd had a hit and four RBIs in Asheboro’s 11-0 rout of Wheatmore. Gore had an RBI single and Nolan Shaw pitched four innings for the win.

■ Logan Weidman and Elijah Skyes both had two hits and two RBIs in Southwestern Randolph’s 8-5 win over Asheboro. One of Weidman’s hits was a double. Carson Coltrane also had two hits and Lane Poole singled in a run. Sykes was the winning pitcher, allowing a run in five innings with seven strikeouts.

Gabriel Jaimes had a single, double and RBI for Asheboro. Daniel Jaimes had two hits and an RBI while Gavin Allen had two hits.

■ Bryson Marley pitched a one-hitter for six innings with four strikeouts as Eastern Randolph beat Cornerstone Charter 6-0. Landon Albright hurled a perfect seventh inning. Miles Cox, Chance Holdaway, McCallum and Albright all had RBI singles.

■ Colin Duvall and Grant Underwood each had a double in Providence Grove’s 3-0 loss to Southern Alamance.

■ Jake Riddle pitched five innings with six strikeouts and had three hits and an RBI as Randleman downed North Davidson 8-3. Ashton Poe and Carter Heath both had two hits and an RBI.

■ Dalton blasted a grand slam along with a double and finished with six RBIs as Uwharrie Charter walloped South Stanly 18-0. McAuley had three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs. Rusty Wheless had three hits and an RBI. Hunter allowed one hit and struck out eight in four innings. Dalton pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts.

■ Greyson Atkinson and Grayson Carter each had an RBI single in Wheatmore’s 9-3 loss to Southern Guilford.

■ Weidman was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI while Brady Armfield smashed a two-run homer in Southwestern Randolph’s 8-6 loss to South Stanly. Coltrane had two hits and Sykes had a two-run single.

■ Parrish had a hit and scored a run in Trinity’s 9-2 loss to Union Pines.

■ Isaiah Batchelor had an RBI single in Eastern Randolph’s 11-1 loss to West Davidson.

Softball

■ Meghan Peters got two hits in Uwharrie Charter’s 6-0 loss to Union Academy.

■ McKinleigh Butcher had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs while striking out 14 as Trinity beat Asheboro 15-9. Abigail Robert had a triple, single and two RBIs. Makyrah Coles had a hit and two RBIs. 

Claire Younts led Asheboro with a three-run double. Shellee Culler had a double, triple and two RBIs. Cora Little also had two hits. 

■ Hailey Ritter had two hits and Vivian Underwood doubled in Eastern Randolph’s 15-1 loss to Southeast Alamance.

■ Adi Johnson smashed a two-run homer and went 3-for-3 but Providence Grove lost 4-3 to Jordan-Matthews. Campbell Ziemba had an RBI single and allowed no earned runs in six innings with eight strikeouts.

■ Lilah Covington smashed a grand slam in the first inning, propelling Randleman to a 6-1 win over North Davidson. Addyson Dees, Ella Rogers and Covington all had two hits. Kaylee Phillips had an RBI single. Kinzie Ivey pitched a seven-hitter with four strikeouts.

■ Makenna Lawrence had a hit and three RBIs as Wheatmore beat Southeast Guilford 11-7. Skylar Pittman doubled in a run while Emma Carter and Adalyn Boles had RBI singles. Boles allowed four earned runs and struck out 15.

■ Meghan Peters had three of Uwharrie Charter’s state record-tying nine doubles and drove in two runs as Uwharrie Charter outlasted North Stanly 12-8. Gracie Smith had two doubles and three RBIs. Aubrie Kaufman had three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Payton Coburn had a two-run double and Tori Dixon had two hits. Layla Freeman had an RBI double and Mylee Friedberg pitched five innings for the win.

■ Tori Dixon doubled in Uwharrie Charter’s 11-1 loss to Union Academy.

■ Hailey Ritter went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in Eastern Randolph’s 20-10 loss to Cornerstone Charter. Brooklyn Jones had two hits and Shelby Williams had a two-run single. Adie Beck and Addie Faucette both had a run-scoring single.

■ Alyssa Harris struck out 12 in a complete game effort while also getting two hits and an RBI as Southwestern Randolph beat Mount Pleasant 6-3. Bristol Marine had a two-run single. Kami Dunn and Nauttica Parrish both had an RBI single.

■ Alivia Cox had Trinity’s lone hit in a 15-0 loss to High Point Central.

■ Butcher tripled in a run in Trinity’s 17-4 loss to Southern Guilford. Coles drove in a run with a grounder.

■ Callie Lambert smashed a three-run homer and Ziemba struck out 13 in five innings as Providence Grove blanked Chatham Charter 10-0. Johnson had two hits and two RBIs. Carly Lambert had a single, double and an RBI.

Girls Soccer

■ Kimrey Watts scored the goal in Asheboro’s 4-1 loss to Pinecrest. Crystal Castaneda made 11 saves.

■ Ashlynn Harbor scored two goals and Kayla Hernandez got the other one in Southwestern Randolph’s 3-3 tie with Trinity. Amaly Calderon and Hernandez had assists while Rylynn Gaines made over 20 saves.

■ Jocelyn McDowell scored five goals in Wheatmore’s 8-0 romp over Montgomery Central. Emmie Messner had two goals and Nora Partin got one. McDowell and Messner each had an assist. Kinsley Davis made three saves.

■ Axaria McDonald scored the goal and Giselle Tellez had the assist in Eastern Randolph’s 5-1 loss to Southeast Guilford.

■ Natalie Hernandez scored the goal as Providence Grove recorded a 1-0 victory over Jordan-Matthews. Alyssa Mesmer made a pair of saves.

■ Jaira Arellano and Watts scored the goals in Asheboro’s 2-1 win over Williams. Grace Bigelow and Arellano had assists. Castaneda made 11 saves and Emely Tejeda had one.

■ McDowell scored the goal in Wheatmore’s 4-1 loss to Ledford. Messner had the assists and Davis made five saves.

Boys Golf

■ Emmitt Frye shot a 1-over-par 37 to lead Eastern Randolph to victory in a three-team match with Asheboro and Randleman at Holly Ridge Golf Links. Asheboro’s Charlie Knott shot 40 and Eastern Randolph’s Tyler Gee had a 42.

■ Lee Hooker led the way with a 37 as Asheboro rolled to victory over Ledford and Southwestern Randolph at Tot Hill Farm. William Tucker and Knott both shot 40. 

Drake Beason led SWR with a 45.

■ Gee was the medalist with a 36 and Eastern Randolph finished second in a Four Rivers Conference match at Tot Hill Farm. Frye shot 42, Uwharrie Charter’s Andrew Stover shot 43 and Southwestern Randolph’s Levi Dalke had a 44.

■ Knott was the medalist with a 40 and Brayden Davis shot 43 as Asheboro (167) beat Providence Grove (178) and Central Davidson (195) at Asheboro Municipal. Taylor Turner shot 43 for Providence Grove and Tyler Brown had a 44.

Boys Track & Field

■ Asheboro was second in a non-conference meet hosted by the Blue Comets. Southwestern Randolph was third.

Winning for Asheboro were Michael Mark (110-meter hurdles), Elijah Ingram (300-meter hurdles), Aaron Tyson (pole vault, triple jump), Boone Hinesley (shot put) and Juan Pablo Munoz (discus).

Winning for Southwestern Randolph was Kaiden Mabe (400 meters).

■ Trinity competed in a meet with East Davidson and South Davidson.

Winning for Trinity were Jax Dillard (200-meter dash), Giovanni Jaimes (400 meters) and Zayne Owen (300-meter hurdles).

Girls Track & Field

■ Asheboro won a non-conference meet hosted by the Blue Comets.

Winning for Asheboro were Nyla Price (100-meter hurdles, triple jump), Jalaya Showers (100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, long jump), Jamaria Fonville (high jump) and Sarah Reeder (pole vault).

Winning for Southwestern Randolph was Kiersten Litell (300-meter hurdles).

Winning for Eastern Randolph was Miriana Corea (shot put, discus).

■ Trinity competed in a meet with East Davidson and South Davidson.

Winning for Trinity were Kayla Franklin (200-meter dash, 400 meters, triple jump), the 4x200 relay and the 4x400 relay.

Boys Basketball

■ Providence Grove’s Will Dabbs was named Player of the Year in the Central Carolina Conference and the Patriots’ Shane Worth was chosen Coach of the Year.

Andrew Thomas, Gabe McKoy and Cam Jones also made all-CCC from Providence Grove.

The rest of the Randolph County players on the all-CCC team were Jordan Starkey (Wheatmore), Avery Ivey (Wheatmore) and Mason Ingram (Trinity). Wheatmore’s Craig Shoemaker was runner-up Coach of the Year.

Girls Basketball

■ Wheatmore’s Kaelyn Whiteheart was named Player of the Year in the Central Carolina Conference and WHS’ Pete Kilcullen was named Coach of the Year.

Laurel Bernhardt of Providence Grove was runner-up Player of the Year and the Patriots’ Steven Cheek was runner-up Coach of the Year.

Other players from Randolph County making the all-CCC team were Madeline Mullinnix (Wheatmore), Kinsley Davis (Wheatmore), Bailee Mitchell (Providence Grove), Adi Johnson (Providence Grove), Ava Nance (Trinity) and Madison Hill (Trinity).

Boys Swimming

■ Alexis Vega-Torres of Wheatmore was runner-up Player of the Year in the CCC and Preston Ward of Providence Grove was runner-up Coach of the Year. 

Wheatmore’s Jack Tobey, Jaden Kilcullen, Landon Weeks, Payton Blackmon and William York also made the all-CCC team.

Girls Swimming

■ Kristi Hall was named Coach of the Year in the Central Carolina Conference and the Warriors’ Danielle Perry was runner-up Player of the Year.

Wheatmore also had Jillian Wolfe, Josey Pulaski, Kylyn Surratt, McKenna Lawrence and Sophie Williamson on the all-CCC team.
