The standings are starting to shake out as conference play begins in some sports and is nearing its end in others. Here are some of the highlights from last week’s action.
Volleyball
■ Avalynn Johnson had 45 assists, 17 digs and 3 aces as Trinity held off Providence Grove 3-2 (25-19, 18-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-7). Avery Moffitt produced 17 kills, 16 digs and 5 aces. Hayli Cox had 13 kills, 4 blocks and 3 aces. Dakota Odell and Mya Hooker both had 13 kills. Charlee Phillips had 15 digs and 5 assists.
Lara Wiseman led Providence Grove with 11 kills and had an ace. Kolbi Jo Lineberry had 9 kills while Adalyn Whitaker had 8 kills, 3 blocks and an ace. Ruby Caudle had four kills and a block. Caitlyn York had four aces and Caroline Wilson got three kills.
■ Emory Johnson had 33 assists, 6 kills and 12 digs in Uwharrie Charter’s 3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 25-16) sweep of North Moore. Carly Rush had 16 kills and 3 aces. Caroline Way had 14 kills, 11 digs and 4 aces. Alyvia Spinks and Nyasia Wharton both had six kills. Sadie Upchurch had 12 digs, 3 assists and an ace.
■ Johnson had 26 assists and 2 aces as Trinity swept Thomasville 3-0 (25-3, 25-2, 25-4). Moffitt had 11 kills, Phillips had 5 aces and Bryn Holden had 4.
■ Wiseman pounded 18 kills and Cheyenne Collins had 20 assists in Providence Grove’s 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 27-25) sweep of East Davidson. Whitaker had 12 kills and 5 blocks. Callie Hodges had 24 digs and Kolbi Jo Lineberry had 10 kills.
■ Rush had a double-double of 10 kills and 15 digs along with 5 aces as Uwharrie Charter swept Eastern Randolph 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-15). Way had 15 kills and 6 digs. Upchurch had 12 digs and an assist. Johnson had 31 assists, 3 kills, 6 digs and an ace.
■ Madeline Mullinix had 9 kills, 2 blocks and an ace in Wheatmore’s 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-23) loss to West Davidson. Alexis Holifield had 7 kills, 10 digs and 2 aces. Lanie McMahan had 17 assists, 9 digs, 3 kills and 3 aces.
■ Adalyn Scherer had 7 kills and 6 blocks as Asheboro swept Providence Grove 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-22). Lia George had 7 kills, 13 digs and an ace. Cora Little had 6 kills while Emma Kate Forester had 3 aces and 4 kills. Emma Ingold had 15 digs and 4 aces. Eva Vuncannon had 14 assists and 3 aces. Maliyah Brady had 4 kills and 3 blocks. Kailey Brown supplied 14 assists, 78 digs and 4 blocks.
Soccer
■ Cayden Pugh and Mario Garcia each scored two goals in Trinity’s 7-3 win over Providence Grove. Justin Garcia, Sam Foster and Jacob Elorza got the other goals. Trey Groves, Cash Harris, Mario Garcia, Foster and Harris had assists.
■ Laurel Ortiz Saurez scored the goal in Wheatmore’s 5-1 loss to East Davidson. Logan Hughes made nine saves.
■ Julian Bitti and Carlos Gonzalez both scored two goals as Asheboro beat Southeast Guilford 4-0. Ozmar Martinez had two assists and Micah Garcia and Zamire Bush each had one.
■ Ivan Castaneda, Bush and Martinez scored the goals in Asheboro’s 3-0 win over Eastern Guilford. Alexander Diaz, Gonzalez and Martinez had assists.
■ Gio Hernandez and Aaron Avina both scored two goals as Southwestern Randolph raced past Uwharrie Charter 9-0. Chris Betancourt, Fernando Hernandez, Cristobal Lopez, Alejandro Jimenez and Jonathan Lopez-Degollado all had one goal. Yael Rebollar-Ortiz and Betancourt each had two assists. Braydon Tyl and Avina each had one assist.
■ Kevin Bautista scored two goals and Eric Gonzalez got one as Providence Grove edged East Davidson 3-2. Seth Johnson had an assist and Aldo Rubio made five saves.
■ Carter Queen scored two goals while Laurel Ortiz Suarez and Grayson Carter both tallied one in Wheatmore’s 4-2 win over West Davidson. Trace Craddock and Queen each had an assist. Logan Hughes made 13 saves.
■ Rebollar-Ortiz and Hernandez both scored two goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 9-0 win over Eastern Randolph. Omar Moreno-Gorostieta, Richard Dominguez-Torres, Homero Aguilar, Michael Jaimes and Gio Hernandez all had one goal. Griffin Hall, Lopez-Degollado, Betancourt, Avina, Gio Hernandez and Dominguez-Torres had assists.
Girls Golf
■ Providence Grove’s Megan Oakley was the medalist with a 43 and the Patriots won a four-team Central Carolina Conference match with West Davidson, East Davidson and Wheatmore at Colonial Country Club.
■ Danielle Jaeck led the way with medalist honors at 42 as Southwestern Randolph won a Four Rivers Conference match at Tot Hill Farm. The Cougars’ Lucy York had a 47 and finished second.
Tennis
■ Tatum Wagner, Taylor Webb, Leah Pickett, Annslee Billings and Emma Davidson won in singles as Wheatmore beat Providence Grove 6-3. The doubles team of Reagan Stinnett/Puckett also won.
Callie Lambert won in singles for Providence Grove. The doubles teams of Liz Shoe/Callie Lambert and Alisa Shaw/Carly Lambert won their matches.
■ Larson Kelly, Caroline Farlow, Scarlet
Kyle, Lexi Owen, Lily Auman and Jillian Cox swept the singles in Southwestern Randolph’s 9-0 rout of North Moore. Also winning were the doubles teams of Kelly/Farlow, Kyle/Owen and Anna Hamilton/Cox.
■ Kayla Neam, Selina Arroyo, Makensie Case and Liliana Delgadillo won in singles as Trinity downed West Davidson 6-3. The doubles teams of Alexi Austin/Arroyo and Case/Case also won.
■ Kelly, Farlow, Kyle, Owen, Auman and Cox swept the singles as Southwestern Randolph blanked Northwood 9-0. The doubles teams of Kelly/Farlow, Kyle/Owen and Alyssa Hampton/Auman also swept.
■ Shaw, Shoe and Callie Lambert won in singles while the doubles team of Shaw/Shoe won in doubles as Providence Grove beat Thomasville 4-0.
■ Neam, Arroyo, Makensie Case and Caroline Case won in singles as Trinity beat Wheatmore 6-3. The doubles teams of Jacey Wilson/Neam and Arroyo/Austin won their matches.
Girls Cross Country
■ Uwharrie Charter’s Gracilyn Elliott led the field as the Eagles downed Eastern Randolph and Southwestern Randolph. The Eagles’ Jackson Re was second and Olivia Turner was third. SWR’s Genevieve Crawford and Kyla Farmer were fourth and fifth.
Boys Cross Country
■ Southwestern Randolph’s Andrew Ormond won the individual title but Uwharrie Charter took the team victory by two points. Eastern Randolph was third, six points back. The Eagles’ Ryan Lor was second, and Eastern Randolph’s Lucas Kennedy was third. UCA’s Ayven Chitagong was fourth and SWR’s Keaton Ormond was fifth.
