A week of nice weather brought out some big bats, some low golf scores and a lot of track and tennis action. Let’s take a look back on the week past.
Baseball
■ Jacob Flinchum had two hits, including a triple, in Providence Grove’s 11-1 loss to Wesleyan Christian Academy. Chase Collins had an RBI single.
■ Keaton Hill tripled and Will Myers delivered a walk-off single as Uwharrie Charter beat West Davidson 4-3. Hill had two hits as did Levi Mitchell and Jake Hunter.
■ Carson Coltrane went 6-for-6 with two doubles and six RBIs in Southwestern Randolph’s 23-11 win over Jordan-Matthews. Brady Armfield had four hits, including two triples and a double and five RBIs. Elijah Sykes had four hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Lucas Connor had three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Carson Williams had two hits and three RBIs. Matthew Blakenship had two doubles and two RBIs. Logan Weidman doubled in a run.
■ Daniel Jaimes had two hits, including a solo home run in Asheboro’s 4-3 loss to Southeast Guilford. Shane Immel had a single and double. Price Kidd allowed two unearned runs in 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts.
■ Hunter hurled a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and had three hits as Uwharrie Charter beat Eastern Randolph 6-1. Jaxon Mabe had a single, double and three RBIs. Levi Mitchell and Wilson Boswell both had two hits. Jason Smith had an RBI single.
Cade McCallum and Avery Wright had hits for Eastern Randolph.
■ Indiana Hill was 3-for-3 with two RBIs in Trinity’s 15-2 romp over Providence Grove. Walker Parrish and Peyton Williams both had two hits and two RBIs. Lincoln Coble pitched five innings, allowing two hits and two unearned runs with eight strikeouts. Grayson Fauber pitched two scoreless innings.
Colin Duval had a two-run double for Providence Grove.
■ Kyle Dillow smashed a two-run homer and Jake Riddle was 3-for-3 with an RBI in Randleman’s 13-0 rout of Montgomery Central. John Kirkpatrick was also 3-for-3. Jackson Hill had a two-run double as did Lincoln Lawson.
Carter Heath had an RBI single. Riddle (4 innings, 4 strikeouts) and Ashton Poe (1 inning, 2 strikeouts) combined on the shutout.
■ Hunter Goddard had a single, double and two RBIs in Wheatmore’s 4-3 loss to East Davidson. Lukas Usterbowski and Greyson Atkinson (1 RBI) each had two hits. Gavin McPherson allowed four unearned runs with eight strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
■ Hill had a sacrifice fly in Trinity’s 9-1 loss to Morehead.
■ Coltrane had two hits and two RBIs in Southwestern Randolph’s 8-6 win over Asheboro. Connor had two hits, including a double. Weidman had an RBI single. Lane Poole allowed two hits and a run with six strikeouts in four innings.
Jaimes had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Asheboro. Reid Suddeth had a two-run double and Sam Gore doubled in a run.
■ Poe had a triple, single and two RBIs in Randleman’s 12-6 win over Southern Alamance. Riddle had two hits and two RBIs. Heath had a single, double and two RBIs. Hill contributed a two-run single.
■ Atkinson had two doubles and two RBIs in Wheatmore’s 7-5 loss to Southern Guilford. Goddard had a single, double and two RBIs. Shannon McCauley had an RBI single.
■ McCauley had an RBI single in Wheatmore’s 12-1 loss to East Davidson.
■ Levi Stalker had a three-run double in Eastern Randolph’s 14-11 loss to Person. Landon Albright and McCallum each had two hits and two RBIs. Isaiah Batchelor had two hits and an RBI. Bryson Marley had three hits and Carlos Cordero had an RBI single.
■ Coltrane had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs in Southwestern Randolph’s 16-7 win over Jordan-Matthews. Sykes had a single, double and three RBIs. Weidman had a single, triple and an RBI. Poole had a single, double and an RBI. Kirk had a two-run single. Connor had three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Armfield had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.
■ Williams struck out 12 in six innings as Trinity beat Providence Grove 5-0. Parrish was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Fauber pitched a scoreless seventh inning with two strikeouts. Brody Little had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Nick Soles also had two hits.
Andrew Thomas, Colin Duvall and Will Dabbs had hits for Providence Grove.
■ Eastern Randolph scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning and took a 13-9 come-from-behind win over Uwharrie Charter. Maddox Dunn had two hits and four RBIs to lead the way. Landon Albright, Isaiah Batchelor and Carlos Cordero all had two hits.
Ty McAualey had three hits and two RBIs for UCA. Hunter had two hits and two RBIs. Rusty Wheless had two hits and an RBI. Mabe had a two-run double and Boswell contributed a two-run single.
■ Lawson had two hits and four RBIs in Randleman’s 16-5 win over Montgomery Central. Gavin Vanover had three hits and two RBIs. Heath had two hits and two RBIs. Poe also had two hits. Jake Riddle, Hill and Kirkpatrick all had RBI singles.
■ Gavin Allen hurled a six-hitter with four strikeouts as Asheboro blanked Southeast Guilford 7-0. Gore had a two-run triple, Suddeth got a two-run double and Allen had an RBI single. Nolan Shaw had two hits and an RBI. Shane Immel (triple) and Price Kidd (double) both had two hits.
Softball
■ Gracie Smith, Tori Dixon and Payton Coburn had hits in Uwharrie Charter’s 14-0 loss to McMichael.
■ Cora Little belted two home runs in Asheboro’s 33-23 loss to Eastern Guilford. Little finished 4-for-6 with eight RBIs. Her second homer was a grand slam. Shelle Culler was 3-for-4 while Claire Younts had two hits and three RBIs. Kloe Woody had a hit and two RBIs. Kyndall Snipes had a hit and three RBIs.
Eastern Guilford’s Erin Bell had an NCHSAA single game record-tying five doubles.
■ Emory Johnson had three hits, including a double and triple, and five RBIs in Uwharrie Charter’s 11-0 win over Eastern Randolph. Jayla Hurley had two hits. Aly Hussey had an RBI single. Paityn Williams pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts.
■ Addie Johnson (double), Cailyn York (double) and Lara Wiseman all had two hits and an RBI in Providence Grove’s 4-3 loss to East Davidson. Campbell Ziemba struck out 12 in a complete-game effort.
■ Lyric Chriscoe had two hits and four RBIs as Randleman overwhelmed High Point Central 16-0 in three innings. Ella Rogers had three hits and two RBIs. Ayla Jordan had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Makayla Striblin had a two-run single and Natalie Roach contributed an RBI single. Alyana Hunt pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts.
■ Maddie Strider had three hits and four RBIs as Southwestern Randolph walloped Jordan-Matthews 20-0 in five innings. Nauttica Parrish had three hits, including a home run and and three RBIs. Alyssa Harris pitched four hitless innings with seven strikeouts while collecting three hits, including a double and a triple, and four RBIs. Bristol Marine had three hits and two RBIs. Katelyn West had a single, double and three RBIs. Jada Freeland had a single, double and two RBIs. Kami Dunn had a three-run triple.
■ McKinley Butcher pitched a three-inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts in Trinity’s 16-0 rout of Thomasville. Abigail Rebert had two hits and three RBIs. Butcher had a hit and two RBIs. Carlie Roberts had two RBIs.
■ Makenna Lawrence had the lone hit in Wheatmore’s 12-0 loss to West Davidson.
■ Wiseman had three hits, including two doubles and two RBIs as Providence Grove romped past Southeast Guilford 23-5. Callie Lambert had three hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Liz Shoe had three hits and two RBIs. Carly Lambert had two hits and three RBIs. Ziemba had a hit and three RBIs. York had an RBI single.
■ Kinlin Hulin hit a two-run triple and Marine had a two-run single in Southwestern Randolph’s 10-2 win over Ledford. Parrish had two hits and four stolen bases. Harris pitched five innings and Chloe Eudy went the final two.
■ Little smashed a two-run homer and Madison Hicks had a two-run single as Asheboro pounded Northern Guilford 18-2. Kyndall Snipes had two hits and three RBIs. Mykala Cook pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts and had an RBI single.
■ Ziemba fired a two-hitter with 17 strikeouts in Providence Grove’s 12-0 romp over Wheatmore. Liz Shue had two hits and three RBIs. Johnson had a triple, single and an RBI. Callie Lambert had a double and triple. Carly Lambert had a single, double and RBI. Baylee Cain tripled in a run and Wiseman had a two-run double.
■ Amanda Crabtree smashed two home runs — a grand slam and a three-run shot – and finished with three hits in Eastern Randolph’s 13-12 win over Uwharrie Charter. Shelby Williams had a single, double and an RBI. Brooklyn Jones had two hits and two RBIs. Adie Beck and Hailey Ritter both had two hits. Vivian Underwood had a two-run double.
Gracie Smith led UCA with three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs. Paityn Williams had three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI. Johnson had a single, double and two RBIs. Meghan Peters had a single, double and two RBIs. Aubrie Nelson had two hits and two RBIs.
■ Marine had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs while Harris smacked a three-run double in Southwestern Randolph’s 10-1 win over Jordan-Matthews. Dunn had a single, double and an RBI. Eudy pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
■ Kinzie Ivey pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts as Randleman drubbed Ledford 11-0. Kaylee Phillips had a single, double and two RBIs. Teanna Bostick had a single, double and an RBI. Kaylie St. John had two hits and an RBI. Lilah Covington and Ivey both had two-run singles. Addyson Dees had an RBI single.
Girls Soccer
■ Emmie Messner scored the goal in Wheatmore’s 2-1 loss to North Carolina Leadership Academy. Kinsley Davis made seven saves.
■ Jocelyn McDowell scored four goals as Wheatmore throttled Thomasville 9-0. Tatum Wagner, Hallie Meyers, Addelyn Hedrick, Noah Partin and Messner scored the other goals. Kaitlyn Vasquez, Meyers, Messner and Partin had assists. Davis made one save.
■ Davis made 10 saves in Wheatmore’s 7-0 loss to Oak Grove.
■ Tallie Emerson, Angie Gaddis Buell and Jocelyn Lopez Enciso scored the goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 3-2 win over Eastern Randolph. Campbell Garner, Arelene Alfaro and Emerson had assists. Rylynn Gaines and Garner each made several saves.
■ Jaira Arellano scored two goals in Asheboro’s 7-0 win over Southeast Guilford. Annissa Goldston, Sofia Valencia, Gigi Flores and Kimrey Watts got the other goals. Penny Smith had two assists. Abeni Hernandez, Arellano, Flores and Valencia all had one assist. Crystal Castaneda made three saves.
Boys Golf
■ Asheboro’s Charlie Knott was third overall with an even-par 36 in a Triad Area Athletic Conference match at Forest Oaks Country Club. Brayden Davis shot 40 and William Tucker came in at 42. Lee Hooker had a 44. Asheboro finished third behind Northern Guilford and Southeast Guilford.
■ Randleman’s Landon Cook placed third overall in a Piedmont Athletic Conference match at Blair Park Golf Club. The Tigers were third in the team standings behind Ledford and Central Davidson.
■ Southwestern Randolph was a close second to South Rowan in a four-team match at Tot Hill Farm. The Cougars’ Levi Dalke was the medalist with a 39. Caleb Abernethy shot a 43.
■ Wheatmore was third and Providence Grove fourth in a Central Carolina Conference match at Sapona. Ethan Porritt led Providence Grove with a 40 while Tyler Brown and Taylor Turner shot 44. Wheatmore’s Avery Ivey and Evan Gordon shot 43.
■ Cook shot a 43 as Randleman was second to Ledford in a Piedmont Athletic Conference match at Oak Hollow Golf Club.
■ Abernethy shot a 40 to lead Southwestern Randolph (167) to victory over Northwood (170), Uwharrie Charter (175), North Moore (176) and Eastern Randolph (197) in a Four Rivers Conference match at Seven Lakes Golf Club. Drake Beeson and Dalke both shot 42 for the Cougars. Dylan Sheffer had a 43.
Eastern Randolph’s Emmitt Frye shot 39 and was third overall. Tyler Gee shot 42. Uwharrie Charter’s Coen Branson, Jaxon Gallimore and Evan Morin all shot 43.
■ Asheboro (163) won a match with West Davidson (172) and North Davidson (173) at Sapona Club. Knott was the medalist with a 1-over-par 36. Hooker had a 39 and Davis a 42.
Boys Tennis
■ Micah Oates, Sam Peters, Caleb Ward and Kelton Shoptaw won in singles as Providence Grove beat West Davidson 6-3. The doubles teams of Jackson Lawver/Carson Jones and Peters/Shoptaw took their matches.
■ Joshua Prochnau, Brady Howell, Liam Lambert, Elliott Nall, Christopher Jones and Giovanni Almazan swept the singles as Asheboro beat Southeast Guilford 7-2. The team of Lambert/Nall won in doubles.
■ Silas Jessup, Avery Plummer, Matthew Davis, Paul Ervin, Michael McNamara and Christian Henderson swept the singles as Wheatmore downed Trinity 8-1. The doubles teams of Jessup/McNamara and Ervin/Henderson won their contests.
Boys Track & Field
■ Asheboro won a three-team TAAC meet with Southern Guilford and Northern Guilford.
Winning for the Blue Comets were Michael Mark (110-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles), Jacob Leveille (3200 meters), the 4x400 relay (Cale Reynolds, Mark, Caden Kutschenko, Tasha Timmons), Aaron Tyson (high jump, triple jump), Kutschenko (long jump), Boone Hinesley (shot put) and Juan Pablo Munoz (shot put).
■ Providence Grove was second in a Central Carolina Conference meet at Thomasville.
Winning for Providence Grove were the 4x800 relay, Nick Straughn (110-meter hurdles, triple jump), the 4x200 relay, the 4x100 relay, Malachi Combo (300-meter hurdles, long jump) and the 4x400 relay.
Winning for Trinity were Kiefer Lindsay (100-meter dash), Giovanni Jaimes (400 meters) and Tyson Whittington (discus).
■ Wining for Randleman in a three-team Piedmont Athletic Conference meet were Bryson Nall (200 meters, 400 meters), Jackson Routh (110-meter hurdles), Jazai Cassady (long jump, triple jump), Matthew Bowman (pole vault) and Izaiah Troxler (discus, shot put).
Girls Track & Field
■ Asheboro was second in a three-team TAAC meet with Southern Guilford and Northern Guilford. Winning for the Blue Comets were Jalaya Showers (100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, long jump), Anissa Goldston (400 meters), Christy Price (triple jump) and Trynitee Brady (shot put).
■ Providence Grove won a CCC meet at Thomasville. Trinity was third.
Winning for Providence Grove were the 4x800 relay, Dakota Cockman (100-meter hurdles), the 4x200 relay, Laurel Bernhardt (1600 meters, 800 meters), the 4x100 relay, Lindsay Browder (300-meter hurdles), the 4x400 relay, Kolbi Jo Lineberry (shot put) and Karis Ferguson (long jump).
Winning for Trinity were Aubrey Yow (high jump) and Kayla Franklin (triple jump).
■ Winning for Randleman in a three-team Piedmont Athletic Conference meet were Jacquline McDaniel (high jump, long jump) and Alexis Vaughn (shot put).
Boys Volleyball
■ Jewel Barrett-Riggins had 12 kills and 7 blocks in Asheboro’s 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-15) win over Ben L. Smith. William Hernandez-Miranda had eight kills while Nicholas Greene had five. Thomas Vazquez-Santos had 5 kills, 11 digs and 6 aces. Ryan Vazquez-Santos had 18 assists and 5 aces. Jonathan Gutierrez Alonso had 12 digs.
Boys Wrestling
■ Eastern Randolph’s David Lambright was named lower weight class Wrestler of the Year and Lorenzo Alston of Uwharrie Charter was named higher weight class Wrestler of the Year in the FRC.

■ Asheboro’s Oscar Zelaya, Jeffrey Harper, Owen Chidester, Omar Basyouny, Braiden Morales, Jose Martinez, Trent King, Quanta McRae, Jonah Lester, Noah Fenton, Esteban Santos and Dylan Espinoza were named to the all-Triad Area Athletic Conference team.
■ Randleman’s Alex Raymundo, Sanii Bosan, Lloy Bosan, Shane Stevens and David Pugh were named to the all-Piedmont Athletic Conference team.
