Southwestern Randolph was flying high after advancing to the regional championship, but ended up getting swept by Bunn in that series. 

LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Playoffs end for most; all conference awards announced

Baseball 

■ Weston Reed had an RBI single in Southwestern Randolph’s 4-2 loss to Bunn in Game 1 of the Eastern Regional championship. Brady Armfield had a sacrifice fly for the Cougars, who managed just three hits and fell behind 3-0 after two innings. Matthew Blankenship pitched a complete game, allowing 12 hits and striking out four.

■ Grant Kirk had two hits and two RBIs but Southwestern Randolph fell 9-4 to Bunn in Game 2 of the Eastern Regional championship series. Lane Poole had two hits and an RBI. Carson Coltrane also had two hits. The Cougars took a 4-0 lead in the first inning but Bunn stormed back to sweep the best-of-three series and advance to the state championship series.

■ Conference champion Trinity swept the all-Central Carolina Conference top honors with Brody Little getting Player of the Year, Lincoln Coble getting Pitcher of the Year and Ryan Spencer getting Coach of the Year. Joining them on the all-CCC team were Peyton Williams, Cohen Wolfe and Walker Parrish.

Providence Grove’s Andrew Thomas was the runner-up Player of the Year and runner-up Pitcher of the Year. The Patriots’ Shane Worth was runner-up Coach of the Year. Chase Collins and Trevor Kirkman were all-CCC.

Wheatmore’s Hunter Goddard was all-CCC.

Pro Baseball 

■ Former Randleman star Brooks Brannon is batting .299 with 7 home runs and 20 RBIs in 67 at-bats for the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. 

Brannon smashed two home runs and had six RBIs in the Sea Dogs’ 15-13 win over New Hampshire. His most recent home run was on May 17 versus the Hartford Yard Goats.

Brannon was drafted in the ninth round by the Red Sox in 2022 after leading Randleman to its second straight state championship. In his senior season, Brannon tied his father’s single-season state record of 20 home runs and led the nation with 92 RBIs.

Softball 

■ Providence Grove’s Callie Lambert was named Player of the Year and the Patriots’ Charlie Deaton was named Coach of the Year in the CCC. Campbell Ziemba was runner-up Pitcher of the Year. Lara Wiseman, Adi Johnson and Cailyn York were all-CCC.

■ Wheatmore’s Emma Gower and Makenna Lawrence and Trinity’s Abigail Rebert were all-CCC.

Girls Soccer 

■ Wheatmore fell 3-0 to Union Academy in the third round of the 3-A state playoffs. Kinsley Davis made 13 saves.

■ Trinity fell 6-1 to Polk County in the third round of the 3-A state playoffs.

■ Wheatmore’s Jocelyn McDowell was named Offensive Player of the Year in the CCC and the Warriors’ Rick Maness was co-Coach of the Year. The Warriors’ Nora Partin was Defensive Player of the Year. Tatum Wagner, Emma Messner and Addelyn Hedrick were all-CCC. 

■ Trinity’s Kayla Neam, Madison Hill, Carolina Case and Olivia Nance were all-CCC.

■ Providence Grove’s Rylee Stover, Alisa Shaw and Natalie Hernandez were all-CCC.

Boys Track & Field 

■ Asheboro’s Aaron Tyson won the 6-A state championship in the pole vault and helped the Blue Comets finish sixth in the team standings. Tyson was also fifth in the long jump and triple jump and sixth in high jump. Juan Pablo Munoz was second in the discus.

■ Wheatmore’s Ayden Fitzgerald, Daylan Rada, Maddox Russo, Noah Wyrick and Ryan Mabe were named to the all- CCC team.

■ Providence Grove’s Conner Tozer, Malachi Combo and Nick Straughn were all-CCC.

■ Trinity’s Giovanni Jaimes and Kiefer Lindsay were all-CCC.

Girls Track & Field 

■ Asheboro’s Jalaya Showers was third in the 100-meter dash in the 6-A state championships.

■ Wheatmore’s Scarlett Hildreth was named Distance MVP in the CCC. The Warriors’ Brooklyn Hittepole, Kahmarii McNeill and Kylyn Surratt were all-CCC.

■Providence Grove’s Aaliyah Burpee, Abigail Lewis, Laurel Bernhardt and Lyndsay Browder were all-CCC.

■Trinity’s Aubrey Yow, Judith Davis, Kayla Franklin and Leyla Martinez were all-CCC. 

General 

■ Wheatmore’s Kaelyn Whiteheart was named Female Athlete of the Year in the CCC. The senior three-sport standout was CCC Player of the Year in basketball and was a starter in volleyball and soccer. Whiteheart will play basketball for Concord University in West Virginia.

■ Wrestling coach Brandon Coggins of Trinity was named Charles Elmore Coach of the Year in the CCC. Coggins led the Bulldogs to the 3-A dual team state championship. Coggins has over 200 dual team victories in his career and has coached five individual state champions.

Boys Golf 

■ Providence Grove’s Brett Breedlove was runner-up Coach of the Year in the CCC. The Patriots’ Ethan Porritt, Taylor Turner and Tyler Brown were all-CCC.

■ Wheatmore’s Avery Ivey and Max Antignano were all-CCC.

Boys Tennis 

■ Providence Grove’s Jackson Lawver, Micah Oates, Sam Peters and Caleb Ward were named to the all-CCC team. 

■ Trinity’s Trey Groves, Sam Foster and Alfredo Huerto were all-CCC.

■ Wheatmore’s Silas Jessup and Avery Plummer were all-CCC.
