Post 45 kept home plate busy last week in a 14-4 win over county rival Post 81 on Friday, June 19, in Ramseur. The two teams were scheduled to play again Monday night in Asheboro.

LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP: Post 45 stringing last-minute wins together

American Legion Baseball 

■ Jackson Hill delivered a walk-off, two-run double as Randolph County rallied to beat High Point-Thomasville 6-5. Brady Armfield smashed a two-run homer and Lucas Connor had an RBI triple. Caleb Coggins had an RBI single. Hudson Deel and Hill both had two hits. Deel pitched two scoreless innings in relief to get the win.

■ Price Kidd threw a five-inning one-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks in Randolph County’s 21-0 rout of Hamlet. Deel led the way with four hits, including a grand slam homer, two doubles and seven RBIs. Connor had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Sam Gore also had two hits. 

■ Armfield tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh inning, lifting Randolph County to a 4-3 win over High Point-Thomasville. Deel smashed two home runs and had three RBIs. John Kirkpatrick pitched six innings with five hits, six walks, four strikeouts and three runs allowed. Tate Andrews pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn a save.

■ Gore’s RBI single brought home Armfield as Randolph County scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to edge Hamlet 9-8. Armfield’s run-scoring triple tied the game. Randolph County scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Hill had two hits and three RBIs. Connor had an RBI single and Gore finished with two RBIs. Deel got the win with two innings of relief.

■ Connor was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in Randolph County’s 14-4 romp over Liberty. Kyle Dillow went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Coggins had a two-run double and Ashton Poe was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Wilson Boswell had a two-run single and Hill had an RBI single. Jake Riddle pitched a five-inning complete game.

Weston Murphy went 3-for-3 with three RBIs for Liberty.

ZooKeepers Baseball 

■ Cameron Austin was 4-for-5 with three RBIs in the ZooKeepers’ 12-8 loss to the Holly Springs Salamanders. Brady McGuire drove in a pair of runs. Connor Christenson and Reggie Sharpe both had two hits.

■ Blake Brookins went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs in the ZooKeepers’ 15-14 loss to the Greenville Yard Gnomes. Austin was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Jackson Hood was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Chazz Grossington was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Thomas Cano-Piszel and Brady Schallmoser had RBI singles. McGuire had an RBI.

■ McGuire smashed a solo home run as the ZooKeepers edged Lexington County 5-4. Josh Martinez and Brookins both had two hits. Cano-Piszel had an RBI. Former Randleman star Seth Way pitched one scoreless inning of relief with a strikeout and got the win, his first of the season.

■ Austin was 2-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBIs in the ZooKeepers’ 8-6 loss to Martinsville. Wyatt Bush and Christenson both had two hits. Drue Saenz had a two-run single. Way allowed three hits and a run in two innings of relief.

Pro Baseball

■ Former Randleman star Brooks Brannon is batting .287 with 9 home run and 32 RBIs for the Portland (Maine) Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.
