Some big wins, a couple of no-hitters and more from last week. Let’s take a look.
Baseball
■ Andyn Wright had a two-run single and a bases-loaded walk in Uwharrie Charter’s 13-0 romp over Cornerstone Charter. Brody Engle had two hits and two RBIs as did Wilson Boswell. Jaxon Mabe and Ty McCauley both had two hits. Jake Hunter and Keaton Hill both had two-run singles. Hunter pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts.
■ Brady Armfield smashed a three-run homer while finishing with three hits and five RBIs as Southwestern Randolph thumped East Davidson 13-1. Lucas Connor had three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Matthew Blankenship had three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Carson Williams had two hits and an RBI. Blankenship scattered seven hits, striking out one.
■ Chase Collins pitched a five-inning two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and rapped a two-run single as Providence Grove beat Wheatmore 11-1. Andrew Thomas had three hits, including two doubles and an RBI. Will Dabbs had a two-run single and Jacob Flinchum singled in a run.
■ Bryson Marley pitched a five-inning perfect game with seven strikeouts in Eastern Randolph’s 10-0 win over North Moore. Cade McCallum had two hits and two RBIs. Carlos Cordero had a two-run single and a sacrifice fly. Avery Wright had a two-run single.
■ Daniel Jaimes collected three hits, including a double, and four RBIs while pitching a five-inning four-hitter with eight strikeouts as Asheboro drubbed Northeast Guilford 12-2. Gabriel Jaimes had a single, double and two RBIs. Price Kidd doubled in a run.
■ Kyle Dillow had a sacrifice fly in Randleman’s 2-1 loss to Central Davidson. Gavin Vanover got both Randleman hits. Jake Riddle went the distance, allowing four hits and striking out nine.
■ Armfield smashed a three-run homer, his 100th career hit, in Southwestern Randolph’s 5-4 loss to Northwood. Conner and Carson Williams both had two hits.
■ Brody Little had three hits, including a two-run double, as Trinity beat West Davidson 2-1. Peyton Williams had two hits. Lincoln Coble pitched a five-hitter with nine strikeouts.
■ Hill hurled a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts as Uwharrie Charter beat Jordan-Matthews 10-0. Rusty Wheless had a single, double, triple and four RBIs. Levi Mitchell belted a solo home run and Ty McCauley had two hits, including a double.
■ Thomas was 3-for-3 in Providence Grove’s 15-5 loss to Southern Alamance. Conner Haithcock and Flinchum both had RBI singles.
■ Cohen Wolfe smacked a two-run double in Trinity’s 8-4 win over Southern Guilford. Nick Soles and Little both had two hits. Peyton Williams had a single, double and RBI. Cameron Hill struck out six in 5 2/3 innings and got the win.
■ Cordero got three hits, including a double, and four RBIs in Eastern Randolph’s 12-2 win over Faith Christian. Landon Albright had a single, double and two RBIs. Wright had two hits and an RBI as did Miles Cox. Maddox Dunn threw a five-inning two-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Houston Walker and Mason Taylor had RBI singles for Faith Christian.
■ Sam Gore was 4-for-4 with four doubles and four RBIs in Asheboro’s 20-4 rout of Northeast Guilford. Shane Immel had three hits, including a triple and two RBIs. Reid Suddeth had two hits and an RBI. Gavin Allen had a single, double and two RBIs. Gore got the win in relief, striking out five in 2 2/3 innings.
■ Tate Andrews smashed a grand slam and earned a save with two innings of scoreless relief as Randleman rallied for a 5-4 win over Central Davidson. Jackson Hill’s bases-loaded walk brought in the other run. John Kirkpatrick pitched five innings, striking out seven.
■ Cordero turned in another big game with two doubles and four RBIs in Eastern Randolph’s 12-0 romp over North Moore. Chance Holdaway had two hits and two RBIs. Albright had a single, double and RBI. Cade McCallum pitched a one-hitter over four innings and Albright finished up in the fifth.
■ Mabe was 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBIs as Uwharrie Charter drubbed Jordan-Matthews 11-1. Hunter also had three hits. McCauley had a single, triple and three RBIs. Engle had two hits, including a triple. McCauley pitched a four-hitter over six innings with eight strikeouts. Mabe pitched a scoreless seventh inning with two strikeouts.
■ Carson Coltrane and Conner had Southwestern Randolph’s only hits in a 5-0 loss to Northwood.
■ Thomas had an overpowering performance, striking out 15 and allowing one hit in six innings as Providence Grove blanked Wheatmore 10-0. At the plate, Thomas had three hits, including two doubles and two RBIs. Conner Haithcock had two hits and an RBI. Caden Waugh doubled in a run and Colin Duvall had an RBI triple.
■ Cohen Wolfe had an RBI single in Trinity’s 12-1 loss to West Davidson.
Softball
■ Meghan Peters had a two-run single in Uwharrie Charter’s 5-2 win over Jordan-Matthews. Aubrie Kaufman had two hits and Gracie Smith singled in a run. Mylee Friedberg pitched a six-hitter with eight strikeouts.
■ Cora Little had an RBI double and Madison Hicks singled in a run in Asheboro’s 31-18 loss to Southeast Guilford.
■ Brooklyn Jones and Jersey Jones had RBI singles in Eastern Randolph’s 163 loss to North Moore.
■ Callie Lambert had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in six runs as Providence Grove romped to a 171 win over Trinity. Campbell Ziemba had two hits and two RBIs while Liz Shoe homered. Lara Wiseman had an RBI single.
Emily Huneycutt singled in Trinity’s run.
■ Adalyn Boles had a run-scoring single and Emma Gower tripled in Wheatmore’s 9-1 loss to East Davidson.
■ Katelyn West struck out seven in six innings as Southwestern Randolph downed Northwood 10-1. Alyssa Harris had two hits, including a double, three RBIs and pitched the seventh inning. Nauttica Parrish had a single, triple and an RBI. Jada Freeland had two hits and an RBI.
■ Adi Johnson and Liz Shoe both had two hits and two RBIs in Providence Grove’s 11-4 win over Morehead. One of Johnson’s hits was a double. Callie Lambert added a three-run double and Cailyn York drove in a run. Ziemba pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts.
■ Kaylee Phillips had a huge night with three hits and seven RBIs in Randleman’s 11-1 romp over Clover Garden. Phillips had a two-run triple, a pair of two-run singles and a bases-loaded walk. Ella Rogers had three hits and an RBI. Olivia Ashby also had three hits. Kadie Green had two hits and Kinzie Ivey contributed a run-scoring triple and pitched four innings with seven strikeouts. Addyson Dees had an RBI double. Rogers pitched the fifth and final inning.
■ Kayla Basulto had two hits and four RBIs in Asheboro’s 19-7 loss to Grimsley. Little belted a solo home run and Hicks singled in a run.
■ Little had four hits, including a triple, and four RBIs in Asheboro’s 17-16 loss to Eastern Guilford. Shellee Culler had three hits, including two doubles. Kyndall Snipes had three hits, including a triple, and an RBI. Kloe Woody had an RBI single.
■ Shelby Williams had two hits, including a triple, and four RBIs in Eastern Randolph’s 16-6 loss to North Moore. Vivian Underwood also had two hits.
■ Callie Lambert had two hits and two RBIs in Providence Grove’s 7-6 win over East Davidson. Lara Wiseman and Baylee Cain had RBIs singles. Carly Lambert had two hits and Ziemba pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts.
■ Ivey hurled a no-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk in Randleman’s 3-0 win over Montgomery Central. Phillips delivered an RBI triple, Lilah Covington had an RBI single and Rogers drove in a run with a fielder’s choice grounder.
■ Parrish had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs as Southwestern Randolph beat Northwood 8-4 in nine innings. Bristol Marine had three hits and two RBIs. Freeland had two hits and two RBIs. Harris contributed a two-run single and Maddie Strider had an RBI single. Harris got the win with four innings of relief.
■ Aubrie Kaufman and Emory Johnson both had two RBIs in Uwharrie Charter’s 9-7 win over Jordan-Matthews in eight innings. Julia Nelson had a double, triple and RBI. Meghan Peters had two hits and an RBI, as did Tori Dixon.
■ Skylar Pittman had a two-run single in Wheatmore’s 12-2 loss to West Davidson.
Girls Soccer
■ Jocelyn McDowell scored three goals and Tatum Wagner got two in Wheatmore’s 7-1 win over Providence Grove. Kaitlyn Vasquez and Nora Partin scored the other goals. Emmie Messner and Vasquez had assists. Kinsley Davis made nine saves and Maddie Reidling turned back one shot.
■ Kayla Hernandez scored three goals and Tallie Emerson tallied two on free kicks as Southwestern Randolph out-lasted Jordan-Matthews 6-5. Estephany Fiscal got the other goal. Odalys Garcia Cambron had two assists while Fiscal and Emerson had one apiece. Rylynn Gaines made over 10 saves.
■ Kimrey Watts, Jaira Arellano and Alexis Bautista all scored two goals in Asheboro’s 8-1 romp over Eastern Guilford. Annissa Goldston and Gigi Flores got the other goals. Sofia Valencia, Penny Smith, Arellano, Watts and Flores had assists. Crystal Castaneda made three saves.
■ Addelyn Hedrick and McDowell scored the goals in Wheatmore’s 2-1 win over Trinity. Messner had an assist. Davis made six saves.
■ Watts scored four goals as Asheboro pounded Northeast Guilford 9-0. Arellano added a pair of goals while Anson Frazier, Valencia and Flores all had one. Goldston had four assists, Flores had two and Arellano one.
Boys Tennis
■ Providence Grove’s Micah Oates and Caleb Ward won in singles in the Patriots’ 7-2 loss to Chatham Charter.
■ Sam Peters, Kelton Shoptaw, Oates and Ward won in singles as Providence Grove beat Wheatmore 6-3. The teams of Oates/Ward and Peters/Shoptaw won in doubles.
■ Braydon Tyl and Logan Goins won singles matches in Southwestern Randolph’s 7-2 loss to Jordan-Matthews.
■ Silas Jessup and Matthew Davis won singles matches in Wheatmore’s 5-4 loss to Cornerstone Charter. The doubles teams of Jessup/Paul Ervin and Davis/McNamara won their contests.
■ Avery Plummer, Christian Henderson, Jessup, Davis, Ervin and McNamara won in singles as Wheatmore beat Trinity 8-1. The doubles teams of Jessup/Ervin and Payton Blackmon/Henderson won their contests.
Boys Golf
■ Asheboro’s Lee Hooker and William Tucker both shot 39 as the Blue Comets finished second to Page in a non-conference match at Asheboro Municipal. Brayden Davis shot 40.
■ Tyler Gee shot 42 in Eastern Randolph’s 158-180 loss to Southeast Guilford at Forest Oaks Country Club. Emmitt Frye and Justin Brown shot 43.
■ Uwharrie Charter’s Evan Morin was the medalist with a 36 and the Eagles won a Four Rivers Conference match at Tot Hill Farm. Coen Branson and Jaxon Gallimore shot 40.
Southwestern Randolph’s Caleb Abernethy shot 38 and the Cougars’ Levi Dalke had a 39.
■ Avery Ivey led the way with a 40 while Collin Dodd and Nathan Pope shot 42 as Wheatmore won a Central Carolina Conference match at Holly Ridge. Max Antignano had a 43.
■ Charlie Knott shot a 40 for Asheboro’s lowest score in a three-team TAAC match at Bryan Park. The Blue Comets finished third. Hooker shot 43 and Davis had a 44.
■ Randleman’s Landon Cook shot 40 to finish second overall in a Piedmont Athletic Conference match at Lexington Golf Club. The Tigers were third as a team.
■ Knott tied for medalist honors with a 39 as Asheboro fell by one stroke to Northern Guilford in a three-team match at Grandover Resort. Davis shot 42 and Hooker had a 44.
■ Taylor Turner shot 40 to claim medalist honors and lead Providence Grove to victory in a Central Carolina Conference match at Colonial Country Club. The Patriots’ Tyler Brown and Wheatmore’s Dominic Hittepole were in a three-way tie for third at 41. Ivey shot 42 for Wheatmore. Providence Grove’s Ethan Porritt along with Wheatmore’s Evan Gordon and Antignano shot 44.
Girls Track & Field
■ Asheboro (61) swept to victory over Southeast Guilford (44) and Northern Guilford (33) in a Triad Area Athletic Conference meet at Southeast Guilford.
Winning for the Blue Comets were Jalaya Showers (100-meter dash, 200-meter dash), Waverly Adams (1600 meters), Tiphaine Amberny (800 meters), the 4x100 relay (Nyla Price, Cadence Waters, Annissa Goldston, Showers), Christy Price (triple jump) and Trynitee Bailey (shot put).
■ Winners for Randleman in a Piedmont Athletic Conference meet at Ledford were Reagan Henley (3200 meters), Janiyah Brooks (triple jump) and Alexis Vaughn (shot put).
■ A Central Carolina Conference meet was held at East Davidson.
Winners for Wheatmore were Brooklyn Hittepole (100-meter dash, 200-meter dash), the 4x200 relay and Kylyn Surratt (triple jump).
Winners for Providence Grove were Abigail Lewis (400 meters) and Lyndsay Browder (300-meter hurdles).
■ A CCC meet was held at West Davidson. Winning for Trinity was the 4x100 relay.
■ A Four Rivers Conference meet was held at Jordan-Matthews, with Southwestern Randolph placing third.
Winning for the Cougars were the 4x800 relay, Kiersten Litell (100-meter dash, 300-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash), the 4x100 relay, and Rhylea Maness (triple jump).
Boys Track & Field
■ Asheboro (78) held off host Southeast Guilford (73) and Northern Guilford (31) in a TAAC meet.
Winning for the Blue Comets were Michael Mark (110-meter hurdles, 300-meterr hurdles, 200-meter dash), Luke Brumley (100-meter dash), the 4x200 relay (Sherrod, Williams, Ingram, Brumley), the 4x100 relay (William Sherrod, Brumley, Sharaun Williams, Mark), the 4x400 relay (Cale Reynolds, Tasha Timmons, Caden Kutschenko, Brumley), Kutschenko (high jump), Aaron Tyson (long jump, triple jump) and Juan Pablo Munoz (discus).
■ Winners for Randleman in a Piedmont Athletic Conference meet at Ledford were Jackson Routh (110-meter hurdles), the 4x800 relay, Harold Burnett (high jump), Matthew Bowman (pole vault), Fareed Ray (long jump), Jazai Cassady (triple jump) and Izaiah Troxler (shot put, discus).
■ A Central Carolina Conference meet was held at East Davidson.
Winners for Wheatmore were Daylan Rada (800 meters), Ryan Mabe (3200 meters), the 4x200 relay and Noah Wyrick (discus, shot put).
Winners for Providence Grove were Nick Straughn (110-meter hurdles, triple jump), Malachi Combo (300-meter hurdles) and the 4x800 relay.
■ A CCC meet was held at West Davidson. Trinity’s Tyson Whittington was second in the discus.
■ A Four Rivers Conference meet was held at Jordan-Matthews, with Southwestern Randolph finishing fourth.
Winning for the Cougars was Thomas Costello (100-meter dash).
