Local sports roundup: SWR suffers first soccer loss; RHS nips AHS in volleyball

On the court, Randleman topped Asheboro in a battle of local volleyball powerhouses, while Southwestern Randolph suffered its first loss of the year to another highly ranked team in the state. Here are highlights from those and other events from last week.

Football

■ Quarterback Khad’n Fuller ran 17 times for 64 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Trinity’s 38-23 loss to South Rowan. Fuller completed 4-of-9 passes for 72 yards. Zaire Gill had 49 yards rushing on 15 carries and caught 2 passes for 29 yards. Drake Adcock had 41 yards rushing on 2 carries.

■ Caden Revelle caught 3 passes for 50 yards and a touchdown in Eastern Randolph’s 34-7 loss to Union Pines.

Volleyball

■ Caroline Way had 15 kills and 13 digs as Uwharrie Charter swept Richmond County 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-14). Emory Johnson had 31 assists and 10 digs. Carly Rush had 5 kills and 10 digs. Sadie Upchurch had 11 digs and 2 assists. Alyvia Spinks had 5 kills and Megan Becker had 4.

■ Kailey Brown had 6 kills, 7 aces and 19 assists as Asheboro beat Providence Grove 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-11). Emma Kate Forester had 9 kills and 3 aces. Emma Ingold had 14 digs and 4 aces while Emma Little had 17 digs. Lia George had 7 kills and 15 digs. Eva Vuncannon had 19 assists and 3 aces. Cora Little had 13 kills while Maliyah Brady contributed 7 kills and 2 blocks.

■ Lilah Covington had 14 kills, 4 blocks and 2 aces as Randleman outlasted Asheboro 3-2 (25-21, 25-20, 9-25, 19-25, 15-11). Karrington Jones had 13 kills and 3 blocks. Lexi Vaughn had 5 kills and an ace. Kaylee Phillips had 4 kills and 4 aces.

George paced Asheboro with 11 kills, 4 blocks and 17 digs. Forester produced a double-double of 10 kills and 11 blocks along with a pair of aces. Adalynn Scherer had 7 kills and 7 blocks. Emma Little had 23 digs. Ingold had 16 digs and 4 aces. Vuncannon had 17 assists and 3 aces. Brown had 15 assists and 8 digs.

■ Dakota Odell had 10 kills and 3 aces in Trinity’s 3-0 (25-17, 29-27, 25-18) loss to Southeast Guilford. Avery Moffitt had 7 kills and 2 aces. Hayli Cox had 6 kills and 4 blocks. Avalynn Johnson had 23 assists and Charlee Phillips had 14 digs.

■ Stella Brown had 13 kills, 6 digs and 3 aces as Southwestern Randolph beat West Stanly 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 26-28, 25-20, 15-10). Bailey Blackmon added 11 kills. Cheyenne Dixon had 10 kills and 20 digs. Kinlin Hulin had 12 kills and 7 blocks. Hailey Kennedy had 31 assists while Maddie Baker had 19 digs and 3 aces.

■ George had 9 kills, 12 digs and 3 aces in Asheboro’s 3-0 (25-21, 23-19, 25-19) sweep of Trinity. Forester had 7 kills while Vuncannon contributed 13 assists and 4 aces. Scherer got 4 kills and 5 blocks. Cora Little had 5 kills and 4 blocks. Emma Little had 15 digs. Brown supplied 15 assists, 5 kills and 2 aces.

Soccer

■ Carter Queen dominated with four goals in Wheatmore’s 9-0 rout of North Stanly. Easton Dewitt added two goals. Grayson Carter, Laurel Ortiz and Jaylen Aquilina all had one goal. Eli Bailey had two assists. Jovan Balderas and Queen each had one assist. Logan Hughes had seven saves.

■ Owen Leonard led the way with three goals as Randleman beat West Davidson 4-0. Avner Francisco scored the other goal. Cesar Villanueva and Aaron Vasquez each had two assists. Dilan Chavero made three saves. Deaton Davis had a pair of saves.

■ Kevin Bautista, Giovanny Arellano and Sam Peters scored the goals as Providence Grove and Eastern Randolph played to a 3-3 tie. Eric Gonzalez and Saul Cortes had assists. Aldo Rubio made six saves.

■ Fernando Hernandez scored the goal in Southwestern Randolph’s 2-1 loss to Western Alamance. Chris Betancourt had the assist and Jonathan Perez-Dominguez made six saves.

Tennis

■ Alisa Shaw, Liz Shoe, Callie Lambert, Carly Lambert, Reese Davis and Ella Money swept the singles as Providence Grove swept Jordan-Matthews 9-0. The teams of Shaw/Shoe, Lambert/Lambert and Davis/Money swept the doubles.

■ Taylor Webb, Macey Tew, Leah Puck-ett, Annslee Billups, and Emma Davidson won in singles as Wheatmore beat East Davidson 7-2. The doubles teams of Tatum Wagner/Webb and Lauren Church/Ally Honeycutt won their matches.

■ Jacey Wilson, Kayla Neam, Makensie Case and Caroline Case won in singles as Trinity beat Providence Grove 6-3. The Bulldogs teams of Neam/Wilson and Case/Case won in doubles.

Callie Lambert and Carly Lambert won in singles for Providence Grove. They also teamed up for a doubles win.

Boys Cross Country

■ Wheatmore’s Ayden Fitzgerald was third overall in the Warriors’ 20-37 loss to West Davidson. The Warriors’ Ryan Mabe was sixth, Tyler McCormick was seventh and Daylan Rada was ninth.

Girls Cross Country

■ Wheatmore’s Scarlett Hildreth won the overall individual race by a wide margin, though West Davidson took the meet. Lydia Madison placed fifth and Emmie Messner was sixth.

Girls Golf

■ Megan Oakley was the medalist with a 42 as Providence Grove beat Southwestern Randolph 145-159 in a nine-hole match at Tot Hill Farm.

Southwestern Randolph’s Danielle Jaeck shot a 47 to lead the Cougars.
