Local summer season ends as fall high school sports season revs up

Post 45’s departure from the American Legion Southeast Regional played at Asheboro’s McCrary Park, that ended the summer season for sports in Randolph County. The fall season of high school sports got cranked up this week as you can see by the schedule above.

AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL               

-Randolph County fell 16-2 in five innings to Chesapeake, Virginia, in the first round of the Southeast Regional at McCrary Park. Braxton Walker had a hit and an RBI for Post 45. Grat Dalton was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Caleb Dunn had an RBI. Connor Adams took the loss as Chesapeake scored eight runs in the first inning.

-Post 45’s season came to an end in an 11-2 loss to Camden, South Carolina, in the loser’s bracket of the Southeast Regional tournament. Pearce Leonard was 2-for-4 and Clay Hill went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Randolph County wound up with an 11-14 record.

BROOKS BRANNON UPDATE

The former Randleman star went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Salem Red Sox in an Aug. 4 game at Kannapolis. He was 0-for-3 versus the Delmarva Shorebirds on Aug. 5.

Brannon was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks in Friday’s game with Delmarva. As of Saturday, Aug. 9, he was hitting .268 with 4 home runs and 16 RBIs for Salem. Brannon is ranked No. 21 among the Boston Red Sox’s top 30 prospects, according to mlb.com. 

PEYTON WILLIAMS UPDATE

Williams, a former Post 45 pitcher, allowed four runs in one-third of an inning and took the loss for the Long Island Ducks as they fell 11-3 to Lancaster Barnstormers. Williams recovered with a scoreless inning against Staten Island on Aug. 7.

Williams was 1-2 with a 6.23 earned run average as of Saturday, Aug. 9.
