A busy week of basketball created a logjam at the top of the Piedmont Athletic Conference while the dominant Uwharrie Charter Academy wrestling team went 7-1 in its Pin Down Autism Super Duals event. Here’s a recap of the week:
Boys Basketball
- Timothy Brower led four players in double figures with 21 points in Eastern Randolph’s 78-60 victory over Southwestern Randolph. Julian Brooks scored 18 points, Camden Jones had 12 and Tyler Gee provided 11.
Brayden Chapman led Southwestern Randolph with 21 points. Julian Mosley had 13 points and Trivett Kennedy had 12.
- Will Dabbs and Andrew Thomas each scored 17 points as Providence Grove held off Trinity 53-47. Brady Collins added 9 points.
Walker Parrish and Zy Holmes both had 17 points for Trinity.
- Jireh Price scored 18 points while Tyshaun Goldston had 14 points and Connor Cassidy 11 in Randleman’s 84-51 win over Providence Grove.
Thomas led Providence Grove with a game-high 25 points and Dabbs had 8.
- Finley Bryant scored 20 points in Wheatmore’s 62-52 win over Southwestern Randolph. Weston Driggers had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Truman Auman had 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Kennedy led Southwestern Randolph with 21 points and Chapman had 14.
- Parker Kines had 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals in Wheatmore’s 84-47 loss to Ledford. Bryant had 8 points and 4 assists.
- Eastern Randolph defeated Uwharrie Charter 84-77 to move into a three-way tie for first in the PAC-7 with UCA and Randleman, each team with one loss. Earlier in the week, UCA defeated Randleman 61-56 to hand the Tigers’ their first loss of the season.
- In MPC play, Asheboro lost its first two league games, 59-48 to Oak Grove and 58-46 to Central Davidson.
Girls Basketball
- Maddie Strider scored 14 points while Kenzie Martin had 13 and Jordin George 12 in Southwestern Randolph’s 63-37 win over Eastern Randolph.
Cora Sparrow led Eastern Randolph with 10 points. Kenly Whitaker and Rozanne Davis each had eight points.
- Laurel Bernhardt scored 18 points in Providence Grove’s 40-21 win over Trinity. Jada Nixon had eight points.
Madison Hill led Trinity with 15 points.
- Jackie McDaniel had a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds as Randleman downed Uwharrie Charter 55-38. Chenleigh Robinson scored 14 points while Gracie Beane had 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Navaeh Staples and Kayla Brown each scored 13 points to lead Uwharrie Charter.
- Bernhardt scored 12 points and Nixon had 11 as Providence Grove overcame Randleman 43-40 in overtime.
Robinson led Randleman with 17 points and McDaniel had 9.
- Strider dominated play with 28 points as Southwestern Randolph beat Wheatmore 52-36. Jordin George had nine points.
Katelyn Whiteheart led Wheatmore with 13 points.
- Staples scored a school-record 34 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 68-59 win over Eastern Randolph. Sammie Chriscoe added 11 points and Brown had 9.
Boys Wrestling
- Uwharrie went 7-1 as a team in its own Pin Down Autism Super Duals.
Lorenzo Alston, Caden Bond and Paxton Kearns all went 8-0 for UCA. Jesse Bowles and Caleb Saldana were both 7-0. Huntley Adcock and Travis Nobles were 3-0. Michael Hardie was 2-0. Aiden Foster, Rylan Alvarez and Ayven Virasone Chitavong were 7-1. Brennan Worrell, Michael Shropshire and Rick Riccardella were 4-1.
- Aiden Burkholder (winner, 106), Stephen Cross (winner, 113), Jaden Allred (winner, 138), Joseph Trahan (winner, 285), Simeon Hamett (2nd, 132) and Jayden Henry (2nd, 144) placed for Trinity at the R.J. Reynolds Invitational.
- Asheboro was 3-1 at the Southwestern Randolph Duals.
Berik Bigelow, Jeffrey Harper, Gabriel Hargis, Owen Chidester and Esteban Santos were 3-0 for the Blue Comets. Oscar Zelaya and Adam Curry were 2-1.
David Lambright went 4-0 for Eastern Randolph. Lucas Kennedy, Jamie Crabtree, Joshua Watson, George Pemberton and Maddox Carson were 3-1.
Michael Jaimes, Nathan Garner and Jose Flores were 4-0 for Southwestern Randolph. Emmitt Lewis was 2-0 and Erick Rabadan Lopez was 3-1.
- Watson, Kennedy, Lambright, Trever Crabtree, Jamie Crabtree, Trevor Young, Pemberton, Hayden Payne, Christian Cabeza and Carson were victorious as Eastern Randolph beat Providence Grove 58-23.
Nick Straughn, Jeremiah Payne, Connor Pritchard and Malachi Comba won for Providence Grove.
- Omar Basyouny, Santos, Zelaya, Curry, Harper, Quanta McRae and Jonah Lester won as Asheboro edged North Davidson 40-39.
- Andrew White, Worrell, Nobles, Jordan, Riccardella, Alston, Foster, Bond, Shropshire, Bowles, Chitavong and Kearns won as Uwharrie Charter rolled past Wheatmore 66-9.
Ayden Summers and Noah Browning won for Wheatmore.
Girls Wrestling
- Asheboro’s Andrea Thornton (4th, 126) placed in the R.J. Reynolds Invitational. Emma Redding (120) and Grace Redding (235) were 3-2. Johrnalys Marcado (100), Adalicia Vasquez (126) and Alaina Scherer (235) were 2-2.
Trinity’s Bliss Joyce (winner, 132), Briana Joyce (winner, 235), Layla Vasquez (3rd, 126) and Daniella Hernandez (4th, 138) placed.
- Jade Baum, Scherer, Marcado, Redding and Thornton won as Asheboro beat North Davidson 30-24.
Boys Indoor Track
- Wheatmore’s Ayden Fitzgerald was fifth in the 55-meter dash at the JDL Run Fast Invitational.
Boys Swimming
- Wheatmore placed third in a five-team meet at the Kernersville YMCA. Winning for the Warriors was Colten Osborne (200 free, 500 free).
Girls Swimming
- Wheatmore was third in a five-team meet at Kernersville YMCA.
Winning for the Warriors were Jillian Wolfe (100 free, 100 back) and the 200 free relay (Wolfe, Paislee Hollifield, Sophie Williamson, Sydney Hall).
