Oct. 30 Prognosticating Pigskin Prodigies

Dennis Garcia

Record: 132-48

Last week: 16-4

“I’m just gonna stay quiet, not make any waves and not jinx myself. For at least a couple of more weeks, then all bets are off.”

RANDLEMAN AT EASTERN RANDOLPH — Expect the Tigers to come out with a renewed vigor after what happened last Friday night. Still, the more and more I see ER, the more and more I’m impressed. Plus, they are at home. ER, 27-20.

MONTGOMERY CENTRAL AT ASHEBORO — The Blue Comets are seeking their fifth win of the season, which would equal the total earned in the past five seasons combined. It’s going to be a high-scoring affair. AHS, 43-38.

SW RANDOLPH AT TRINITY — The Bulldogs opened up some eyes last week against Randleman. Then why am I picking SWR? SWR, 35-34.

NORTH CAROLINA AT FLORIDA STATE — When I picked Duke to beat FSU earlier this year, I said something about would we have even considered an ACC team beating the Seminoles at the beginning of the year. It’s not the beginning of the year. UNC,

34-23.

DUKE AT NO. 6 MIAMI — Miami is looking more and more like what an ACC champion should look like. Miami, 35-20.

SAINTS AT PANTHERS — Maybe a chance, a slight chance, a very slight chance. Nahh. Saints, 40-21

“It’s nice to be back in it, but the goal is the same as it was all those years we faced off at that other paper. Either I win or I finish last. No one remembers who finishes anywhere else. You can’t go for glory without taking chances. Let’s go!”

RANDLEMAN AT EASTERN RANDOLPH — We’ve spent a whole football season waiting for this game, hoping both teams get here undefeated. Oops. Now what? The Tigers’ still have a fun offense versus the Wildcats’ more workmanlike approach. In the end, ER may be a bit stronger defensively. If you only see one game this year, though, make this one it, ER, 24-23.

MONTGOMERY CENTRAL AT ASHEBORO — The Timberwolves have been a bit of an enigma after that hot start. AHS can solve it. Asheboro, 34-27.

SW RANDOLPH AT TRINITY — Don’t look ahead, Cougars. SWR, 28-14.

NORTH CAROLINA AT FLORIDA STATE — Two of the biggest disappointments in all of college football. FSU retains the top disappointment spot. UNC, 33-26.

DUKE AT NO. 6 MIAMI — Miami has teetered on being upset most weeks. This could be it, or Miami finally plays a complete game. I’ll go with another close one. Miami, 27-24.

SAINTS AT PANTHERS — Is this upset week? Could be. Will it? Welllll ... Saints, 30-20.

“Wow ... if I had any money to bet, I’d have lost that, the house, and the cars. ... Okay, maybe not that bad, but seeing a theme? A pattern? A freefall? Really? I can’t see anything. Think my glasses will help my picks? Probably not.”

RANDLEMAN AT EASTERN RANDOLPH — The showdown. Well, Trinity woke the Tigers up — they hope. ER just needs to finish. That’s one thing Cates’ teams rarely ever don’t do. ER, 42-26.

MONTGOMERY CENTRAL AT ASHEBORO — .500 and a playoff berth for Asheboro maybe, versus how far MC has fallen after such a promising start. Good finish for the home team. AHS, 31-14.

SW RANDOLPH AT TRINTY — The Cougars only lost to the two PAC heavyweights. But the first loss between those was a Trinity shocker. Hmmm. SWR, 26-20.

NORTH CAROLINA AT FLORIDA STATE — One of the few times I might pick the Tar Heels. I’m not sure they show up in Chief Osceola’s house. Then again, they are better on the road than at home, so maybe... Tar Heels 24-23.

DUKE AT NO. 6 MIAMI — Hurricanes are still blowing on a cone to Charlotte to go play ‘Tiger King.’ The U, 36-26.

SAINTS AT PANTHERS — You were thinking we were going to actually pick the Panthers? ... Still? Aint(s losing), 31-18.

Last week: 14-6

“Just when I think I’m going to move up in this thing, Trinity beats Randleman and the Tar Heels win a football game. Remind me why we started doing these again.”

RANDLEMAN AT EASTERN RANDOLPH — Whew. All-out battle here. Tigers just took their first loss, and this one’s in Wildcat Stadium. You know what that means. ER, 41-32.

MONTGOMERY CENTRAL AT ASHEBORO — Blue Comets have won two in a row. I say they keep the momentum going. I mean, when have I ever been wrong about these things? AHS, 32-24.

SW RANDOLPH AT TRINTY — Bulldogs are hosting the Cougars after a big win over undefeated Randleman. Still ... . SWR, 28-14.

NORTH CAROLINA AT FLORIDA STATE — An exciting match-up between two teams with one ACC win apiece. Yawn. UNC, 24-21.

DUKE AT NO. 6 MIAMI — If you can’t muster a conversion against SMU, can you beat the U? Nope. Miami, 32-10.

SAINTS AT PANTHERS — The Saints will, indeed, go marching in ... and beat the Panthers. Saints, 28-17.
