ASHEBORO — When someone loves to do what he does, he’s considered fortunate. Asheboro’s own Scott Faglier and Steve Morgan are very fortunate people.
The two have combined to introduce another Randolph County sports internet station as Randolph Sports Central debuted Feb. 11 at Asheboro High School with the Blue Comets’ doubleheader against Southeast Guilford.
The duo, along with special guest announcers, will be webcasting games from throughout Randolph County, including jayvee, middle school and recreational events.
Faglier and Morgan were employees of a local radio station, but once those relationships ended, the two went out on their own.
“Scott worked hard to get advertisers and he went everywhere for that radio station and when it ended, he was really upset,” Morgan said. “I told him if you want, you can do your own thing and I would help.”
That set the wheels turning and with the help of Christian Morgan and Kendall Lewis, who advised what equipment would be needed and the correct steps of how to get on the air, Randolph Sports Central was born.
“Steve mentioned to me that we should go out on our own and thought we could do a good job in the community who supports us and encourages us,” Faglier said.
“He didn’t have to say it twice to me. He said it was something we both enjoyed doing and why not figure it out and get it going.”
Aside from webcasting live sporting events, RSC is planning to have a weekly talk show with local coaches, athletes, fans and supporters.
“I’m at the time in my life where I just love being around the coaches and players,” said Faglier, who worked for Klaussner for more than 42 years and is currently the Regional Supervisor for the Mid-State Referees Association. “How lucky are we in Randolph County to have SportsTone and what we are doing to promote these kids and these local events? Some places don’t have that.”
Faglier said a website is currently being worked on and for now is directing people to their social media platforms.
“You gotta crawl before you walk,” Fagiler said. “There are things I’m learning every day.”
