Post 45, Zookeepers pick up some steam

Randolph County Post 45 and the Asheboro Zookeepers both had produc-tive weeks last week. Here’s a recap of some of the highlights:

 

AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL               

*Isaac Yates went 3-for-4 with a two-run single in Liberty’s 4-3 loss to Chatham County. Shane Immel had an RBI single. Avery Wright and Immel each had two hits. Jackson Berger allowed seven hits and three earned runs with five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Bryson Marley got the loss in relief.

*Pierce Leonard had three hits and an RBI in Randolph County’s 7-4 loss to Davidson County. Clay Hill had a run-scoring double. Caden Lasley and Caleb Dunn both had run-scoring singles. Drake Purvis gave up three runs in two innings and took the loss. Samuel Asbill pitched five innings, allowing four runs.

*Trey Kennedy and Leonard each had an RBI single in Randolph County’s 6-4 win over Liberty. Parker Kines went 6 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and four runs with four strikeouts. Jake Riddle got the last out, earning a save.

Andrew Thomas, Grant Underwood and Chase Collins all had RBI singles for Liberty. Marley was 2-for-2 and pitched six innings, giving up five earned runs.

*Kennedy had a hit and three RBIs but Randolph County fell 5-4 to Davidson County. Caleb Stickle had a hit and an RBI. Randolph County led 4-1 but Davidson County scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

*Riddle was 4-for-5 with a triple as Randolph County trounced Beverly-Lowell, Ohio 11-1. Grat Dalton had two hits and three RBIs. Caden Lasley and Stickle each had two hits and an RBI. Braxton Walker allowed one unearned run and one hit with seven strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. Elijah Prince pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and Brett Smith finished up with an inning of scoreless relief.

Drew Harmon allowed one run on three hits while striking out 8 in a 2-1 win over Berkeley County Post 14, West Virginia’s defending state champion. Post 14 was equally stingy, allowing only four Post 45 hits, two each by Clay Hill and Caden Lasley. A groundout by Caleb Stickle to score Laskey and a sacrifice fly by Pearce Leonard produced Post 45’s runs.

 

ZOOKEEPERS BASEBALL

*Devin Parks was 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Zookeepers beat High Point-Thomasville 5-2. Noah Samol hurled four hitless innings to get the save.

*Alex Kean and Evan Harding each had an RBI single in the Zookeepers’ 4-2 win over Boone. Nic Shutte pitched five innings, allowing two runs. Mason Manriquez pitched four shutout innings for a save.

*Parks was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the Zookeepers’ 5-2 win over High Point-Thomasville. Ryan Kennell had a run-scoring single as did James Hankerson. Owen Simmons got the win and Noah Samol hurled four hitless innings with seven strikeouts for the save.

*Hunter Atkins was 4-for-6 with a double and three RBIs in the Zookeepers’ 15-5 romp over Holly Springs. Sam Seidel was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Zach Evans was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Parks added a solo home run. Tyler Behm got the win, allowing a run in three innings.

*Jacob Dilley was 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs in the Zookeepers’ 13-2 rout of the High Point-Thomasville HiToms. Nick Capozzi was 2-for-5 with an RBI and Atkins smashed his first home run of the season. David Johnson allowed three hits and two runs in six innings. Mason Manriquez pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

*Atkins had one of the Zookeepers’ two hits in a 3-0 loss to the Wilson Tobs.

*Hankerson belted a solo home run in the Zookeepers’ 7-2 loss to Martinsville.

 

BROOKS BRANNON UPDATE

*Brannon was 2-for-4 in the Salem Red Sox’s 2-0 loss to the Fayetteville Woodpeckers and 3-for-4 with a double and RBI in a 2-1 win over Augusta. 

The former Randleman star was 1-for-3 in another game with Augusta and 3-for-5 with a double in the series finale with Augusta.
