Randleman boys begin 5-0; SWR girls do same

ASHEBORO — Randleman handed Asheboro its first boys basketball loss of the season while Uwharrie Charter Academy continued its hot start.

 

Here’s a look at those and other results from last week’s Randolph County week in sports.

 

BOYS' BASKETBALL

- Brady Collins scored 16 points in Providence Grove’s 64-56 loss to Westerrn Alamance. Will Dabbs and Andrew Thomas each scored 12 points and Jackson Rhyne had 10.

- Jireh Price scored 18 points and Connor Cassidy had 13 as Randleman edged Asheboro 45-42.

Osiris Rodriguez led Asheboro with 19 points.

- Parker Kines scored 21 points in Wheatmore’s 51-45 loss to East Davidson.

- Brayden Chapman scored 20 points in Southwestern Randolph’s 83-62 loss to North Stanly. Julian Mosley scored 13 points and Zach Bruce had 11.

- Rodriguez scored 19 points in Asheboro’s 58-52 win over Southern Alamance. Jalial Timmons had 15 points and Elijah Woodle added 11.

- Thomas scored 22 points as Providence Grove beat Chatham Charter 52-45. Dabbs contributed 17 points and 8 rebounds. Collins had 11 points and 7 rebounds.

- Bruce led the way with 24 points in Southwestern Randolph’s 70-55 win over Trinity. Chapman had 9 points and Julian Mosley had 8.

Nazir Staton led Trinity with 25 points. Zy Holmes had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.

- Braeden Lamb scored 24 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 59-47 win over Providence Grove. Jaxon Mabe had 10 points and Jaydon DeNamur added 9.

Dabbs led Providence Grove with 23 points and Thomas had 10.

- Tyshaun Goldston scored 20 points in Randleman’s 44-30 win over Wheatmore.

Kines led Wheatmore with 10 points.

- Mosley scored 17 points while Trivett Kennedy had 13 and Chapman 12 in Southwestern Randolph’s 59-54 win over East Davidson.

 

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

- Laurel Bernhardt scored 24 points in Providence Grove’s 65-44 loss to Western Alamance. Jada Nixon added 10 points.

- Navaeh Staples scored 14 points and Lainey Thomas had 8 in Uwharrie Charter’s 42-36 win over Mount Pleasant. 

- Maddie Strider scored 21 points in Southwestern Randolph’s 56-13 rout of North Stanly. Kenzie Martin and Macy Allred each had eight points.

- Staples scored 17 points, Thomas had 11 and Sammy Chriscoe 9 as Uwharrie Charter edged Providence Grove 51-50.

Bernhardt led Providence Grove with 23 points.

- Gracie Beane scored 17 points while Chenleigh Robinson and Bella Bynum each had 8 in Randleman’s 40-29 win over Wheatmore.

Madeline Mullinix led Wheatmore with 10 points and Brianna Hill had 9. Kynnedi Routh scored her 1,000th career point.

- Jaqculine McDaniel scored 11 points in Randleman’s 39-33 loss to Central Davidson. 

- Lenzie Martin scored 16 points, Allred had 13 and Strider 12 in SW Randolph’s 70-21 romp over Trinity.

Ava Nance led Trinity with 8 points.

  

BOYS' WRESTLING

- Trinity’s Jaden Allred (150 pounds) won at the Eye of the Tiger Invitational at Mount Pleasant. Other Bulldogs who placed were Aiden Burkholder (2nd, 106), Stephen Cross (2nd, 113), Zane Schloemer (2nd, 157), Lawson Coltrane (2nd, 165), Joseph Trahan (2nd, 285), Edgar Vasquez (4th, 120) and Jayden Henry (4th, 144).

Michael Jaimes (3rd, 138) and Jose Flores (3rd, 285) placed for Southwestern Randolph.

Quentez Butler (4th, 215) placed for Asheboro.

- Dominic Hittepole (winner, 190), Ayden Summers (3rd, 132), Spencer Moore (5th, 150), Noah Browning (5th, 190), Ben Dudley (6th, 113) and John Kelly (6th, 215) placed in the Jim King Orange Invitational.

- Eastern Randolph swept five matches in the North Moore Mustang Duals. Joshua Watson, Lucas Kennedy, Trever Crabtree and Maddox Carson all went 5-0 for the Wildcats. Jamie Crabtree, Trevor Young, Hayden Payne and Christian Cabeza were all 4-1. Jacob Gasey was 3-1 and Arturo Sesmas was 1-0.

Providence Grove was 3-1, losing only to Eastern Randolph. Mitchell Freeman, Jeremiah Payne and Matthew Singer were all 5-0 for the Patriots. Tyler Williams, Aiden Poplin and Caden Mercado all went 4-1.

- Ryan Owens, Kevin Juarez, Michael Jaimes, Nathan Garner, Ayden Walker, Jose Flores, Dallas Rambo and Justin Foland won in Southwestern Randolph’s 39-34 win over Page.

- Erick Lopez, Owens, Juarez, Jaimes, Walker and Flores won as Southwestern Randolph edged Ragsdale 35-33.

- Omar Basyouny, Esteban Santos, Berik Bigelow and Butler won in Asheboro’s 57-24 loss to Central Davidson. 

- Payne, Williams, Poplin, and Freeman all went 3-0 as PG swept a quad match with Carver, Northwest Guilford and Lexington. Zach Frazier was 2-0.

- Owens, Juarez, Jaimes, Garner, Walker, Lopez, Dallas Rambo, Dominic Ross and Flores won as Southwestern Randolph beat Randleman 48-30.

Jack Gilmartin, Alex Raymundo, Lloy Bosan, Hezekyah Matson and Braxton Walker won for Randleman.

- Jaimes, Walker, Lopez and Flores won in Southwestern Randolph’s 59-18 loss to Eastern Guilford.

- Bosan and Matson won in Randleman’s 68-12 loss to Eastern Guilford.

- Summers, Hammonds, Moore, Brodie Bates, Alen Ramos, Zach Resendes, Hittepole, Noah Browning and Dylan Harris won as Wheatmore beat Eastern Randolph 49-23.

Kennedy, Trever Crabtree, Jamie Crabtree, Carson and Watson won for Eastern Randolph.

- Ayven Virasone Chitavong, Paxton Kearns, Andrew White, Caleb Saldana, Brennan Worrell, Rick Riccardella, Caden Thorne, Lorenzo Alston, Aiden Foster, Caden Bond and Michael Shropshire won as Uwharrie Charter beat Trinity 45-18.

Allred, Coltrane and Trahan won for Trinity.

 

GIRLS' WRESTLING

- Asheboro’s Bliss Joyce (138) and Briana Joyce (215) both won at the Mount Pleasant Invitational.

 

BOYS' INDOOR TRACK

- Asheboro placed third in the 10-team Polar Bear No. 1 meet at Eastern Alamance.

Winning for the Blue Comets was Aaron Tyson (triple jump).

 

GIRLS' INDOOR TRACK

- Asheboro placed fifth in the 10-team Polar Bear No. 1 meet at Eastern Alamance.

Winning events for the Blue Comets were Jalaya Showers (55 meters) and Trynitee Brady (shot put).
