Randleman’s boys (11-1, 21-1) and Southwestern Randolph’s girls (12-0, 24-0) sewed up regular season conference crowns last week heading into their respective Piedmont Athletic Conference tournaments.
Here are some highlights from last week’s final regular season games.
Boys Basketball
Will Dabbs scored 21 points in Providence Grove’s 71-54 win over Wheatmore. Andrew Thomas added 19 points and Brady Collins had 12. Jackson Rhyne added eight points.
Parker Kines led Wheatmore with 16 points. Weston Driggers had 12 points and blocked 3 shots. Wyatt Stepp had 8 points and 4 assists.
- Braeden Lamb led four players in double figures with 19 points as Uwharrie Charter beat Southwestern Randolph 71-68 in overtime. Jayden DeNamur and Aaron Smith each scored 15 points while C.J. McDowell had 14. Jaylan Brown added eight points.
Julian Mosley led Southwestern Randolph with 17 points. Brayden Chapman scored 16 points and Kenan Sugg had 11.
- Timothy Brower scored 30 points while Julian Brooks scored 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds as Eastern Randolph raced to a 91-51 win over Trinity. Brower also had 6 steals, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. DaSean Shamberger had 7 points and 10 rebounds.
Zy Holmes led Trinity with 20 points and 6 rebounds.
n Brower led four players in double figures with 21 points in Eastern Randolph’s 83-63 win over Uwharrie Charter. Brooks had 15 points and 13 rebounds. Camden Jones and Tyler Gee both had 12 points.
Smith scored 22 points to lead Uwharrie Charter. Lamb scored 14 points and Jaxon Mabe had 11.
- Thomas scored 21 points in Providence Grove’s 71-62 loss to Williams. Dabbs had 14 points while Stephen Beeson had a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
- Chase Farlow collected 18 points in Randleman’s 55-48 win over Ledford. Connor Cassidy had 16 points and Tyshaun Goldston added 13.
- Osiris Rodriguez scored 26 points and Elijah Woodle had 14 in Asheboro’s 62-53 win over North Davidson. Jalial Timmons had 12 points.
- Kines scored 25 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists as Wheatmore downed Uwharrie Charter 63-46. Stepp had 22 points.
Lamb led Uwharrie Charter with 20 points and Smith had 19.
- Rodriguez scored 16 points and had 9 rebounds in Asheboro’s 87-34 rout of Montgomery Central. Timmons had 14 points and 6 rebounds. Woodle had 13 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Jewel Barrett-Riggins had 13 points and 6 rebounds.
Girls Basketball
Laneane Scherer scored 15 points and Adalynn Scherer scored 14 points in Asheboro’s 43-39 loss to Montgomery Central. Malaika Khan added eight points.
- Laurel Bernhardt scored 23 points as Providence Grove edged Wheatmore 49-48. Ally Maze had 9 points and Kolbi Lineberry added 8.
Kynnedi Routh led Wheatmore with 16 points. Brianna Hill added 10 points and Katelyn Whitaker had 8.
- Maddie Strider scored 23 points as unbeaten Southwestern Randolph throttled Uwharrie Charter 64-39. Jordin George scored 11 points and Kenzie Martin had 10. Macy Allred scored 9 points while Gracie Hodgin had 8 points and 11 rebounds.
Nevaeh Staples and Lainey Thomas each had 9 points for Uwharrie Charter.
- Jada Nixon scored 22 points in Providence Grove’s 54-42 loss to Williams.
- Strider scored 19 points as Southwestern Randolph rolled to a 55-31 win over East Davidson. George had 15 points while Martin had 9 and Hodgin 8.
- Jaqueline McDaniel scored 17 points and Gracie Beane had 15 in Randleman’s 48-43 win over Ledford.
- Bernhardt scored 20 points in Providence Grove’s 55-36 win over Eastern Randolph. Mailey Way had 9 points and Adalyn Whitaker added 8.
Callie Craven led Eastern Randolph with 10 points and Cora Sparrow had 8.
Boys Indoor Track & Field
Randleman’s Chase Farlow, who recently committed to North Carolina State, won the 1-A/2-A state championship in the high jump with a record leap of 6-feet, 10 inches at JDL Fast Track. It’s the second highest jump in North Carolina this season.
The Tigers’ Jay Richards was fourth in the pole vault. Tristan Chriscoe qualified for the 55-meter dash finals but couldn’t finish and received a DNF. Ty Moton was 14th in the shot put.
- Asheboro’s Aaron Tyson Jr. was fourth in the pole vault in the 3-A state championship meet at JDL Fast Track.
Girls Indoor Track & Field
Randleman’s Gracie Beane was third in the high jump.
- Eastern Randolph’s Miriana Corea was third in the shot put.
Boys Wrestling
Uwharrie Charter turned in a dominating performance at the 1-A East Regional, with 14 wrestlers advancing to the state tournament. Here’s who made it: Ayven Virasone Chitavong (winner, 106); Paxton Kearns (second, 113); Andrew Miller (second, 120), Caleb Saldana (fourth, 126); Brennan Worrell (fourth, 132); Rick Riccardella (second, 138); Brandon Jordan (winner, 144); Caden Thorne (third, 150); Lorenzon Alston (winner, 157); Aiden Foster (winner, 165); Caden Bond (second, 175); Rylan Alvarez (fourth 190); and Michael Shropshire (winner, 215).
Making it from Eastern Randolph were Lucas Kennedy (fourth, 120); David Lambright (third, 126); and Maddox Carson (winner, 285).
- Seven county wrestlers advanced out of the 2-A Mideast Region. They were Alex Raymundo (Randleman, winner, 106); Hezekyah Matson (Randleman, third 120); Michael Jaimes (Southwestern Randolph, second, 138); Nathan Garner (Southwestern Randolph, third, 150); Mitchell Freeman (Providence Grove (winner, 157); Braxton Walker (Randleman, winner, 215) and Jose Flores (Randleman, winner, 215).
- Trinity and Wheatmore dominated in the 2-A Midwest Regional.
Placing for Trinity were Aiden Burkholder (winner, 106); Stephen Cross (winner 113); Omega Edge (third, 120); Edgar Vasquez (fourth, 126); Kayden Hess (second, 132); Jaden Allred (winner, 138); Baron Justice (third, 144); Jayden Henry (third, 150); Lawson Coltrane (winner, 165); and Joseph Trahan (winner, 285).
Placing for Wheatmore were Ayden Summers (winner, 126); Nolan Hammonds (fourth, 126); Spencer Moore (second, 144); Dominic Hittepole (winner, 175); Noah Browning (third, 190); and John Kelly (second, 215).
- Oscar Zeleya (third, 120) and Berik Bigelow (fourth, 126) qualified from Asheboro in the 3-A Midwest Regional.
