Here are some highlights from last week’s action as the soccer regular season came to a close while other sports were nearing the end of their playoff seasons.
Soccer
- Cam Letterlough and Diego Bustamante each scored two goals as Asheboro beat Montgomery Central 4-1. Cristian Raygadas had two assists. Andre Valladares and Bustamante had one apiece.
- Jaydon DeNamur scored four goals in Uwharrie Charter’s 5-2 win over Wheatmore. Caleb Golden netted the other goal. Cadence Butler, Felix Martinez and Aidan Almond each had an assist. Victor Nino made 10 saves.
- Aaron Avina scored three goals while Logan Freeman and Kevin Garcia each added a pair of goals as Southwestern Randolph overwhelmed Uwharrie Charter 10-1. Daniel Arellano, Rodrigo Santana Bernal Diego Matias Hernandez and Fernando Hernandez all had one goal. Fernando Hernandez had three assists and Jonathan Lopez Degollado had two. Arellano, Avina, Yael Rebollar Ortiz, Braydon Tyl and Omar Moreno Gorostieta all had one assist. Jonathan Perez Dominguez made two saves.
- Bryan Carbajal and Saul Cortes scored the goals as Providence Grove edged Wheatmore 2-1. Jefferson Vargus had an assist and Tyler Brown made four saves.
- Owen Leonard scored two goals in Randleman’s 3-1 win over Trinity. Mario Martinez had a goal and Francisco Vences had two assists. Dilan Chavero made four saves.
Volleyball
- Mollie Hall had 8 kills while Haley Hinshaw and Kaylee Phillips each got 7 in No. 3 Randleman’s 25-20, 25-19, 25-18 loss to No. 3 North Stanly in the third round of the 2-A state playoffs. Camden Scott had 6 kills and 11 digs while Ava Jones had 5 kills. Camryn Vickery had 28 assists and 8 digs. Hinshaw had 9 digs and Natalie Roach got 8.
- Caroline Way had 10 kills while Kayden Faglier had 6 kills and 4 blocks as No. 4 Uwharrie Charter fell 25-21, 25-23, 25-23 to No. 5 Cornerstone Charter in the third round of the 1-A state playoffs. Morgan Lowe had 4 kills, 2 blocks and 2 aces.
Tennis
- Providence Grove’s Audrey Frazier fell 6-0, 6-1 to Community School of Davidson’s Jadan Rounds in the first round of the 2-A individual state tournament.
- Providence Grove fell 6-3 to No. 4 Burns in the third round of the 2-A dual team state playoffs.
Girls Cross Country
- Providence Grove sophomore Laurel Bernhardt finished seventh overall in the 2-A Midwest Regional in Dobson and qualified for the state championship meet as an individual.
- Scarlett Hildreth, a freshman at Wheatmore, finished 12th and also made the state championship meet as an individual.
Boys Cross Country
- Freddie Mercado of Randleman placed 10th in the 2-A Midwest Regional in Dobson and qualified for the state championship meet as an individual.
Girls Golf
- Providence Grove’s Megan Oakley finished in a tie for 29th in the 1-A/2-A state tournament at Sapona Golf Club in Lexington. The junior shot rounds of 94 and 93.
