Sports roundup: Randleman knocks off SWR in volleyball

Randleman captured a stunner with a three-set win over defending state champion Southwestern Randolph in volleyball while Asheboro opened conference season with a pair of wins in soccer.

 

Here’s a recap of some key moments during the week.

 

VOLLEYBALL

 

Chloe Dixon walloped 11 kills and got 13 digs as Randleman scored a huge 25-21, 25-23, 25-22 win over Southwestern Randolph. Gabi Carter had 8 kills, 9 digs and a block for the Tigers. Haley Hinshaw produced 6 kills, 17 digs and a pair of aces. Kenzie Roach had 23 assists and 14 digs. Karli Kennington had 29 digs and Camryn Vickery had 11 assists.

 

Camden Scott led with 12 kills while Dixon had 11 kills and 23 digs in Randleman’s 27-29, 26-24, 25-11, 25-18 win over Wheatmore. Hinshaw had 28 digs and 6 kills for the Tigers. Kennington had 25 digs and Mollie Hall got 6 kills. Roach had 24 assists, 19 digs and 3 aces. Vickery had 17 assists. Carter had 4 kills and 4 blocks. Ava Jones had 4 kills and 2 aces.

 

*Madelyn Smith led with 10 kills as Southwestern Randolph downed Trinity 25-14, 25-15, 25-8. Gracie Hodgin had 7 kills and 4 digs for the Cougars. Raegan LeRoy had 24 assists and 7 aces. Alyssa Harbor had 7 kills and Riley Key had 6.

 

* Ellen Long had 15 kills and 5 blocks in Asheboro’s 25-17, 26-14, 16-25, 25-19 win over Montgomery Central. Lia George had 10 kills and 9 digs for the Blue Comets. Piper Davidson had 12 digs, 8 kills and 3 aces while Kaylen Nance had 44 assists. Sarah Hildreth got 8 kills and 3 aces.  

 

* Dacia Lowery had 16 kills and 5 blocks as Uwharrie Charter outlasted Providence Grove 21-25, 25-15, 25-21, 13-25, 15-9. Chloe Painter had 12 kills, a block and an ace for the Eagles. Kayden Faglier had 5 kills and 2 blocks. Lizah Moore had 4 kills and 6 blocks.

 

Lowery had 11 kills and 5 blocks in Uwharrie Charter's 24-26, 25-18, 25-22, 25-23 win over Trinity. Moore had 7 kills and 5 blocks.

 

* Emma Mazzarone led Providence Grove with 16 kills while Paige Needham had 12 kills and 2 blocks for the Patriots. Dyyanna Wade had 9 kills and 4 blocks.

 

Riley Mazzarone had 34 assists in Providence Grove’s 25-21, 25-15, 25-23 win over Southeast Guilford. Needham had 10 kills, Mailey Way had 15 digs and Wade had 6 kills with 6 blocks.

 

* Sarabeth Johnson led Trinity with 21 kills and 14 digs. Karrington Batten had 19 kills, 5 blocks and an ace. Madison Burgiss had 31 assists, 18 digs and 3 aces. Phoebe McCall had 18 digs and a block. Ella Johnson had 5 kills, 5 digs and a block. Faith Powell had 12 digs and 4 assists.

 

*Taylor Richardson had 19 kills, 5 assists, 4 digs, 2 blocks and an ace in Wheatmore’s 25-17, 25-23, 20-25, 25-13 win over Eastern Randolph.

 

SOCCER

 

*Cristian Ortiz scored two goals and got an assist as Asheboro shut out Oak Grove 4-0 in Mid-Piedmont Conference action.

 

Ortiz then got a hat trick in Asheboro’s 5-1 win over Central Davidson.

 

*Riley Queen tallied 2 goals and Nick Galloway was credited with 7 saves as Wheatmore beat Southwestern Randolph 4-1 in a PAC-7 game.

 

*Brendan Jenkins scored twice in Trinity’s 3-1 win over Randleman.

 

*Bernadino Zuniga and Fernando Hernandez each scored two goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 10-1 rout of South Stanly.

 

TENNIS

 

*Mackenzie Gudino and Bella Branson each won in singles and doubles as Southwestern Randolph downed Randleman 7-2.

 

GIRLS GOLF

 

*Asheboro’s Salem Lee was the medalist with a 38 in an MPC match at Wilshire Golf Club. The Blue Comets finished second as a team behind Oak Grove.

 

*Lee tied for medalist honors with a 35 in Asheboro’s match with Northwest Guilford at Greensboro Country Club’s Farm Course.
