2-A state playoffs, first round
*Ellie Garrison scored six more goals to extend her North Carolina single-season scoring record to 84 as undefeated Wheatmore walloped Shelby 9-0. The junior striker now leads the nation in scoring. Summer Bowman got two goals and Mikalah Wells had one. Natalie Bowman had four assists.
*Southwestern Randolph fell 8-0 to Hendersonville. The Cougars concluded their season with a 9-10-1 record.
*Randleman fell 3-1 to East Gaston. The Tigers wound up with a 7-9-1 record.
1-A state playoffs, first round
*Kendall Jarrell scored two goals in Uwharrie Charter's 3-0 win over Gray Stone Day. Ivy Redding tallied the other goal and Abbie Gudino made 13 saves.
3-A state playoffs, first round
*Asheboro dropped a 3-0 decision to North Henderson. The Blue Comets finished their season with a 9-7-4 record.
2-A state playoffs, second round
*Summer Bowman and Garrison each scored three goals as Wheatmore whipped Forbush 7-0 while extending its winning streak to 46 games. Kaitlyn Vazquez had the other goal. Lucy Lockwood made four saves.
1-A state playoffs, second round
*Jazmin Palma scored both goals in Uwharrie Charter’s 5-2 loss to Christ the King.
BASEBALL
State playoffs, third round
2-A
*Seth Way pitched a five-hitter with 13 strikeouts while also belting a two-run homer as Randleman beat East Davidson 7-3. Hunter Atkins was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBIs for the Tigers. Austin Lemons was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Sean Miller had an RBI and John Kirkpatrick got two hits.
1-A
*Peyton McCallum had two hits and two RBIs in Uwharrie Charter’s 10-4 win over North Stokes. Troy Carver had two hits and an RBI. Walker Wilkins smashed a home run and drove in a pair of runs. Carter Brown had a triple and two RBIs. Grat Dalton had three hits and an RBI. Brett Smith allowed four unearned runs in 5 1/3 innings with three strikeouts to get the win. Logun Wilkins pitched 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief with two strikeouts.
*Eastern Randolph continued its string of upset wins. This time the Wildcats downed Highland Tech 3-1.
State playoffs, fourth round
2-A
*Hunter Atkins and Braxton Walker got the only hits as Randleman’s two-year state championship reign came to a halt in a 5-0 loss to Morehead. Austin Lemons allowed six hits and two earned runs in six innings. Morehead ace Anderson Nance pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks. Randleman ended the season with a 23-5 record.

*Ben Medinger and McCollum were both 2-for-4 with an RBI as Uwharrie Charter beat Draughn 5-4 in eight innings. Caleb Stickle and Brown each had a hit and RBI. Brown’s run-scoring single was a walk-off in the bottom of the eighth. Logan Wilkins allowed a run in two innings to get the win relief. Jake Hunter gave up three runs — all unearned — and struck out five in six innings.
*Eastern Randolph erupted for seven runs in the top of the seventh inning and beat Union Academy 13-6. The Wildcats advanced to the Western Regional champion series against Piedmont Athletic Conference rival Uwharrie Charter.
SOFTBALL
State playoffs, third round
2-A
*Maddie Strider’s two-out walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Southwestern Randolph to a 1-0 win over Mount Pleasant. Macie Crutchfield pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts.
1-A
*Kenzie Hill was 2-for-2 with a triple and 2 RBIs as Uwharrie Charter routed North Stokes 12-0 in five innings. Emory Johnson went 3-for-3 and Logan Zephir hurled a two-hitter with six strikeouts.
*Ziera Watson got three hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs as Eastern Randolph whipped East Wilkes 11-4. Lanie McDaniel had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for the Wildcats. Addie Flinchum also had two hits and two RBIs while picking up the win in the circle. Ayanna Mears had a double and RBI. Skylar Pugh had hit and RBI while also pitching in relief.
State playoffs, fourth round
1-A
*Molly Bulla and Johnson each had a hit and RBI in Uwharrie Charter’s 12-2 loss to Union Academy. Zephir got a pair of hits. The Eagles ended their season with a 15-9 record.
*McDaniel went 3-for-3 and scored Eastern Randolph’s lone run in a 4-1 loss to top-seeded South Stokes. Mears had a hit and drove in McDaniel. Flinchum allowed three runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts and six walks. The Wildcats finished their season with an 18-6 record.
2-A
*Crutchfield struck out 17 and pitched a 10-inning three-hitter but Southwestern Randolph fell 2-1 to undefeated West Wilkes. Maddie Varner had a run-scoring single. Southwestern Randolph closed the season with a 22-2 record.
GOLF
*Eastern Randolph’s Connor Carter placed second in the 1-A state tournament at Pinehurst No. 6. The Wildcat senior shot rounds of 70 and 77 to finish 3-over-par. He was five shots out of the lead but tournament winner Connor Warren of Mitchell shot a 68 in the final round to go along with his opening 65 to wind up 11-under-par.
*Trinity sophomore Ryan Marshall tied for 15th place in the 2-A state tournament at Longleaf. Marshall shot rounds of 83 and 77.
*David Elliott of Asheboro tied for 57th in the 3-A state tournament at Foxfire (Red). Elliott had rounds of 82 and 86.
TRACK AND FIELD
1-A state meet
Girls
*Eastern Randolph’s Brecken Snotherly was fifth in the 1,600 meters and ninth in the 800 meters. Snotherly was the Midwest Regional champion in both events. The Wildcats’ Miriana Corea placed seventh in the state in the shotput.
3-A state meet
Boys
*Asheboro’s Lance Everhart was ninth in the high jump and 11th in the pole vault.
Girls
*Asheboro’s 4x100 relay team of Audrey Patterson, Sion Murrain, Ey’Mya Cheek and Jalaya Showers finished seventh. Rebecca Wilson was 10th in the high jump.
2-A state meet
Girls
*Randleman’s Gracie Beane was second in the high jump. She was also 14th in the triple jump.
Southwestern Randolph's Coley Shift was sixth in the 800 meters. Jensen Auman of Providence Grove was 13th in the 1,600 meters. Randleman’s Iniyah Mitchell placed sixth in the shot put.
Boys
*Randleman’s Chase Farlow was fifth in the high jump and Trinity’s Dylan Hodges came in seventh. Hodges was also 10th in the long jump. Wheatmore’s Zach Hazelwood was sixth in the 3,200 meters.
