Southwestern Randolph routed Clinton 5-1 in soccer, avenging a 3-1 loss in last year’s 2-A state title game against the Dark Horses. Here are some highlights from that and lots of other high school action from last week.
Football
Results from the other two football games in the county last week (see story about Southwestern Randolph’s win).
■ John Kirkpatrick threw for 283 yards and 2 touchdowns along with a rushing touchdown as Randleman rallied for a 21-19 win over Lexington. The Tigers trailed 13-0 entering the second quarter. Matthew Bowman caught 4 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. Connor Cassidy had 3 receptions for 63 yards and Lincoln Lawson had a 6-yard touchdown catch.
■ Kobe Walker ran for a pair of touchdowns in Eastern Randolph’s 34-6 victory over West Stanly. Quarterback Cade McCallum threw an 8-yard TD pass to Day’Veion Ford.
Volleyball
■ Cheyenne Dixon had 12 kills, 8 digs and 6 aces in Southwestern Randolph’s 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-9) sweep of Jordan-Matthews. Kennedie Welborn had 7 kills while Kinlin Hulin and Bailey Blackmon each had 6. Callie Mooneyham had 3 aces and 8 digs. Stella Brown had 3 aces and 4 digs. Hailey Kennedy led the way with 21 assists and Mary Kathryn Coltrane had 13.
■ Randleman swept Asheboro 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-18).
Lia George had 9 kills, 14 digs, 2 blocks and 2 aces for Asheboro. George went over 1,000 digs for her career. Emma Kate Forester had 5 kills, 7 blocks and 2 aces. Kailey Brown had 13 assists and 5 kills. Emma Little had 9 digs and 2 aces. Cora Little had five kills and a block. Adalyn Scherer had 4 blocks and a kill. Emma Ingold had 14 digs and Eva Vuncannon supplied 11 assists. Maliyah Brady had four blocks.
■ Carly Rush had 9 kills, 13 digs and an ace in Uwharrie Charter’s 3-0 (25-6, 25-19, 25-21) sweep of Ragsdale. Sadie Upchurch had 5 digs and 2 aces. Gracie Smith had 5 digs and 3 aces. Emory Johnson had 25 assists, 5 digs and 2 kills. Nyasia Wharton had 8 kills while Caroline Way had 14 kills and 5 digs.
■ George had 7 kills and 6 digs as Asheboro swept Southern Guilford 3-0 (25-4, 25-8, 25-14). Scherer had 7 kills and 4 blocks. Madeline Hodge had 5 kills and an ace. Emma Little had 7 aces and 10 digs. Brown had 11 assists and 4 aces. Ingold had 12 digs while Vuncannon had 12 assists and 2 aces. Hailey Mason had nine assists.
■ Dixon pounded 13 kills and an ace as Southwestern Randolph swept North Moore 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-8). Blackmon added 8 kills while Stella Brown had 7 and Hulin 5.
■ Avery Moffitt had 12 kills and 7 aces in Trinity’s 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) win over Wheatmore. Dakota Odell had 12 kills and Mya Hooker had 10. Hayli Cox added 10 kills. Avalynn Johnson had 38 assists, 8 digs, 2 aces and a kill. Bry Holden had 10 digs and 3 aces. Charlee Phillips had 14 digs and 2 assists.
■ Emory Johnson produced 32 assists, 5 aces and 2 kills as Uwharrie Charter swept Northwood 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-13). Upchurch had 19 digs and 3 assists. Rush had 11 kills, 15 digs and 3 aces. Way had 15 kills, 11 digs and an ace. Nyasia Wharton had 6 kills and Alyvia Spinks added 5.
■ Way had 16 kills and 16 digs in Uwharrie Charter’s 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-14) sweep of Southwestern Randolph. Rush had 10 kills, 11 digs and an ace. Upchurch had 21 digs and Johnson supplied 26 assists. Sydney Hayes had 7 kills while Spinks had 6 and Wharton 5.
Dixon led Southwestern Randolph with seven kills. Hulin and Blackmon both had 4 kills and 3 blocks.
■ Avalynn Johnson had 25 assists, 12 digs, 4 kills and 2 aces as Trinity swept East Davidson 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-22). Hooker had 9 kills and 6 digs. Moffitt had 13 kills and Phillips got 21 digs.
Soccer
■ Fernando Hernandez and Aaron Avina both scored two goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 5-1 win over Clinton in a rematch of last year’s state title game. Chris Betancourt scored the other goal. Jonathan Lopez-Degollado, Richard Dominguez-Torres, Yael Rebollar-Ortiz and Hernandez each had one assist. Jonathan Perez-Dominguez made six saves.
■ Ozmar Martinez scored a three-goal hat trick as Asheboro blanked Jordan-Matthews 5-0. Carlos Gonzalez and Alexander Diaz got the other goals. Alexander Perez, Jonathan Ortega and Martinez had assists.
■ Randleman beat Wheatmore 4-1. Easton Dewitt scored Wheatmore’s goal. Ryan Black got the assist. Logan Hughes made 13 saves and Brodie Bates got 3.
■ Betancourt and Braydon Tyl both scored two goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 9-0 rout of North Moore. Avina, Holt Tyl, Rebollar-Ortiz, Hernandez and Noah Freeman all scored one goal. Avina and Rebollar-Ortiz each had two assists. Griffin Hall, Lopez-Degollado and Hernandez all had one assist.
■ Gonzalez scored two goals while Erik Gervacio, Julian Bitti and Martinez each had one in Asheboro’s 5-5 tie with Glenn. Ivan Castaneda, Henry Martinez Cruz, Ortega and Martinez all had one assist.
■ Laurel Ortiz Saurez scored two goals in Wheatmore’s 4-3 loss to Thomasville. Dewitt got the other goal. Byron Figueroa had an assist and Hughes made 16 saves.
Tennis
■ Ashleigh Page, Macie Epps, Delaney Aldrich, Addyson Williams and Lainey Ricketts won in singles as Uwharrie Charter beat Southwestern Randolph 8-1. The doubles teams of Paige/Aldrich and Bella Branson/Ricketts won their matches.
The doubles team of Scarlet Kyle/Lexi Owen won for Southwestern Randolph.
■ Tatum Wagner, Taylor Webb, Macey Tew, Leah Puckett, Annslee Billings and Emma Davidson swept the singles as Wheatmore beat East Davidson 6-3.
■ Anson Frazier took a singles match in Asheboro’s 8-1 loss to Southeast Guilford.
■ Selina Arroyo, Makensie Case, Caroline Case and Makenzie Hill won in singles as Trinity beat Providence Grove 6-3. The doubles teams of Alexi Austin/Arroyo and Case/Case also won.
Alisa Shaw and Callie Lambert won in singles for Providence Grove. The doubles team of Liz Shoe/Shaw won as well.
■ Shoe, Callie Lambert, Carlie Lambert, Reese Davis and Ella Money won in singles as Providence Grove beat East Davidson 8-1. The doubles teams of Alisa Shaw/Shoe, Lambert/Lambert and Davis/Money swept the doubles.
■ Tew, Puckett, Billings and Davidson won in singles and the team of Wagner/Puckett won in doubles as Wheatmore edged West Davidson 5-4.
■ Wagner, Webb, Tew, Puckett, Billings and Davidson won in Wheatmore’s 8-1 win over Cornerstone Charter. The doubles teams of Makenna Lawrence/Emma Gower and Ava Botts/Raydan Barber also won.
Girls Golf
■ Providence Grove won a three-team Central Carolina Conference match with Wheatmore and West Davidson at Winding Creek. The Patriots’ Megan Oakley was second overall with a 43 and Kyndal Kinley of Wheatmore was third with a 46.
■ Danielle Jaeck of Southwestern Randolph was the medalist with a 39 in a four-way match with Central Davidson, Ragsdale and Asheboro at Asheboro Municipal. The Cougars placed second to Central Davidson.
■ Jaeck got medalist honors with a 47 and her Southwestern Randolph team won a five-team Four Rivers Conference match at 7 Lakes Golf Club.
Boys Cross Country
■ Wheatmore beat Asheboro Hybrid Academy 20-43. Asheboro Hybrid sophomore Josiah Kelly dominated the overall standings with a time of 24:08, over two minutes faster than the Warriors’ Tyler McCormick.
■ Randleman’s Jedidiah Dake was third overall in a PAC meet with Lexington and Montgomery Central. The Tigers were second as a team.
Girls Cross Country
■ Randleman’s Reagan Henley was sixth overall in a PAC meet with Lexington and Montgomery Central. The Tigers were third as a team.
