The schedule was pretty busy for a Christmas week. Here are some reported Randolph County sports highlights:
BOYS BASKETBALL
*Will Dabbs scored 19 points as Providence Grove drubbed River Mill 66-12 in the Falcon Christmas Tournament at North Carolina Leadership Academy. Andrew Thomas had 15 points and 9 steals. Stephen Beeson had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
*Parker Kines scored 19 points as Wheatmore beat East Davidson 59-46 in the Panther Christmas Classic at Ledford. Weston Driggers had 11 points and 8 rebounds. Finley Bryant had 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
*Chase Farlow scored 23 points as Randleman beat Eastern Guilford 59-46 in the first round of the SportsTone.net Christmas Invitational. Connor Cassidy added 14 points for the Tigers.
*Driggers scored 15 points and got 6 rebounds as Wheatmore edged Madison 42-41 in the fifth-place game of the Panther Christmas Classic. Colin Dodd scored 8 points while Truman Auman had 7 points and 13 rebounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
*Adalynn Scherer scored 14 points while Laneane Scherer had 11 points and 10 rebounds in Asheboro’s 66-43 loss to Williams in the SportsTone.net Christmas Invitational.
*Brianna Hill was named to the all-tournament team as Wheatmore beat host Ledford 54-37 in the third-place game of the Panther Christmas Classic.
BOYS WRESTLING
*Eastern Randolph’s Davis Lambright (winner, 126), Maddox Crane (4th, 285), Joshua Watson (6th 113) and Trever Crabtree (6th, 132) placed in the Mark Adams Holiday Classic.
*Providence Grove’s Ayden Summers (winner, 132), Mitchell Freeman (2nd, 157), Jeremiah Payne (3rd, 106), Aiden Poplin (3rd, 126) and Malachi Combs (3rd, 165) placed in the Jerry Hampton Invitational at Central Davidson.
Southwestern Randolph’s placers were Jose Flores (winner, 285) and Kevin Juarez (4th, 138).
Wheatmore’s placers were Ayden Summers (winner, 132), Dominic Hittepole (winner, 190), Spencer Moore (2nd, 150), Johnathon Kelly (2nd, 215), Terry Gillespie (3rd, 113), Landon Watkins (4th, 144) and Broodie Bates (4th, 157).
*Asheboro’s Oscar Zelaya (2nd, 126), Adam Curry (2nd, 157), Esteban Santos (3rd, 106) and Quentez Butler (4th, 215) placed in the Eastern Guilford Invitational.
*Uwharrie Charter’s Ayven Virasone Chitavong (2nd, 106), Aiden Foster (2nd, 165), Caden Bond (2nd, 190), Paxton Kearns (3rd, 113), Michael Shropshire (3rd, 215), Andrew White (5th, 120) and Travis Nobles (5th 144) placed in the Great Smoky Mountain Grapple.
*Hittepole (3rd, 175), Summers (4th, 126) and Noah Browning (6th, 190) placed for Wheatmore in the Tiger Classic at Chapel Hill.
Berik Bigelow (3-2, 132), Jeffrey Harper (3-2, 165) and Butler (3-2, 165) were Asheboro’s top performers.
*Trinity’s Jaiden Allred (winner, 130), Joseph Trahan (2nd, 285), Aiden Burkholder (2nd, 106), Stephen Cross (5th, 113) and Edgar Vasquez (6th, 120) placed in the Gate City Grapple.
GIRLS WRESTLING
*Bliss Joyce (winner, 138) and Brianna Joyce (5th, 235) placed for Asheboro in the Gate City Grapple.
