Tigers rally late for victory

Three high school football games were postponed Friday night because of weather. They were set to be made up on Monday. Some teams got their games in, though. Here are some highlight from those and other action from the week.

 

Football

— John Kirkpatrick threw a touchdown pass to Brayden Gladden and Peyton Patterson had an interception in Randleman’s come-from-behind 34-28 home field win over West Stokes. That improved the Tigers to 2-0.

— Jackson Lawver and Brady Collins threw touchdown passes but the Patriots fell 18-13 to Southern Guilford and are now 1-1.

 

Volleyball

— Haley Hinshaw had 15 kills and 10 digs while Camden Scott had 15 kills along with 20 digs in Randleman’s 25-10, 25-19, 20-25, 26-24 win over Oak Grove. Kaylee Phillips, Ava Jones and Mollie Hall all had five kills for the Tigers. Camyrn Vickery had 44 assists. 

— Kaitlyn McCoy had 12 kills and 10 aces as Trinity swept Ledford 25-14, 25-18, 25-20. Karrington Batten had 6 kills and 3 blocks. Faith Powell added 11 digs and 2 aces. Avalynn Johnson had 21 assists.

— Emory Johnson had 26 assists and 17 digs in Uwharrie Charter’s 25-21, 25-13, 25-18 sweep of Bishop McGuinness. Kayden Faglier had 9 kills while Caroline Way got 7 kills and 11 digs.

— Lia George had 12 kills and 12 digs in Asheboro’s 25-14, 25-14, 25-14 win over Jordan-Matthews. Emma Kate Forester also pounded 12 kills along with 10 blocks. Ady Sherer had 10 kills and 14 blocks. Emma Little had 17 digs and Emma Ingold had 16. Anna Grace LeRoy had 18 assists and Eva Vuncannon had 12.

— Scott had 13 kills and 10 digs as Randleman swept Eastern Randolph 25-19, 25-7, 25-20. Vickery had 40 assists, Kadie Green had 19 digs and Jones had 10 kills.

— Gracie Hodgin led the way with 17 kills as Southwestern Randolph beat Providence Grove 25-15, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19. Carolina Cagle had 7 kills while Kinlin Hulin had 6 kills and 3 blocks. Paige Hughes had 6 kills and 2 blocks.

Lara Wiseman led Providence Grove with 6 kills and 4 blocks. Peyton Whitaker had 5 kills and 4 blocks. Maggie Freeman had 4 kills and 5 blocks. Mailey Way had 18 digs. Riley Mazzarone had 11 assists and Kailey Brown contributed 10.

— Batten produced 15 kills and 5 blocks in Trinity’s 25-21, 16-25, 25-16, 25-16 victory over Wheatmore. McCoy had 12 kills, 7 digs and 2 aces. Avery Moffitt had 9 kills, 5 digs and 2 blocks. Johnson had 36 assists and Powell got 19 digs.

— Kayden Faglier had 13 kills and 2 blocks in Uwharrie Charter’s 25-19, 25-10, 25-17 sweep of North Davidson. Emory Johnson had 28 assists and 9 digs. Caroline Way had 8 kills and 10 digs. Morgan Lowe added 8 kills and 2 blocks.

— Mailey Way had 10 digs in Providence Grove’s 25-14, 25-19, 25-23 loss to Ledford. Riley Mazzarone had 7 assists and Kailey Brown 6. Addie Morgan and Peyton Whitaker each had 3 kills and 2 blocks.

— Hall, Hinshaw and Scott each had seven kills in Randleman’s 25-10, 25-16, 25-15 sweep of Wheatmore. Vickery had 28 assists and served 5 aces. Hinshaw had 11 digs while Green and Jones each had 7. Jones also had 5 aces and 4 kills. Lexi Vaughn added three kills.

— Freeman and Wiseman each had eight kills in Providence Grove’s 25-15, 25-17, 25-21 loss to Uwharrie Charter. Way had 25 digs while Mazzarone had 12 assists and Brown had 12.

 

Soccer

— Fernando Hernandez and Aaron Avina each scored two goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 5-1 win over Montgomery Central. Yael Rebollar Ortiz got the other goal. Logan Freeman, Jonathan Perez Dominguez and Hernandez each had an assist. Dominguez made three saves.

— Cam Letterlough scored three goals and Win Smith had two in Asheboro’s 6-2 victory over Randleman. Diego Bustamante got the other goal. Abraham Cabral, Ozmar Martinez, Cristian Raygadas, Alexander Perez and Letterlough each had an assist. 

— Saul Cortes, Giovanny Arellano and Jefferson Vargus all scored two goals in Providence Grove’s 9-3 rout of Southern Guilford. Jonathan Cortes, Eric Gonzalez and Sam Peters got the other goals. Maynor Osorto, Saul Cortes, Peters, Gonzalez, Vargus and Arellano all had an assist. Tyler Brown made four saves.

— Letterlough tallied three goals for the second game in a row as Asheboro raced to a 9-3 win over Western Guilford. Martinez scored two goals while Carlos Castaneda, Juan Uscanga, Bustamante and Smith each had one. Bustamante had two assists. Andre Valladeras, Braulio Gutierrez, Juan Marcias, Perez and Raygadas each had one assist.

— Fernando Hernandez scored two goals while Aaron Avina and Gio Hernandez each had one goal as Southwestern Randolph beat Page 4-0. Braydon Tyl and Avina each had an assist.

— Jonathan Cortes scored a pair of goals while Saul Cortes, Bryan Carbajal, Vargus and Peters each had one in Providence Grove’s 6-1 win over Southeast Guilford. Saul Cortes, Arellano and Peters each had an assist. Brown was credited with 10 saves.

 

Tennis

— Larson Kelly, Caroline Farlow, Scarlett Kyle, Emily Hamilton, Lexi Owen and Ashlynn Harbor swept the singles as Southwestern Randolph beat Randleman 8-1. The teams of Jillian Cox/Brooke Payne and Lily Auman/Alyssa Hampton won in singles.

The team of Jamiyah Brooks/Riley York won in doubles for Randleman.

— Caroline Tidwell, Alisa Shaw, Reece Davis, Liz Shoe and Olivia Dawson won in singles as Providence Grove edged Southern Alamance 5-4.

— Blair Thomas, Malaika Khan, Charlotte Smith and Madalynn Adams won in singles as Asheboro beat Southwestern Randolph 6-3. The teams of Malaika Khan/Thomas and Yusra Khan/Smith won in doubles.

Emily Hamilton and Lexi Owen won singles for Southwestern Randolph. The doubles team of Jillian Cox/Brooke Payne prevailed as well.

 

Golf

— Trynitee Brady was Asheboro’s low scorer in a Mid-Piedmont Conference match at Meadowlands. The Blue Comets were fifth in the team standings.

 

Cross Country

— Randleman’s Freddie Mercado finished 11th out of 114 runners in the River Run Cross Country Invitational at Fisher River Park in Dobson.

In the girls’ race, the Tigers’ Callie Wood was 21st and Layla York was 26th.

— Wheatmore freshman Scarlett Hildreth was 12th in the Bob Schilly Cross Country Invitational at East Davidson. 

— Hildreth was the winner in a five-team home meet with Asheboro, Asheboro Hybrid, Gray Stone Day and Southwestern Randolph. The Warriors’ Tyler McCormick was third in the boys’ race and Asheboro’s Alex Patino was fourth.
