Tigers roll; PG pounces on Trinity

In football, Randleman stayed unbeaten while Ashe-boro took a conference-opening loss.  

 

Uwharrie Charter’s girls volleyball team gave Randleman its first conference loss of the year while the soccer teams at Asheboro and Southwestern Randolph remained unbeaten in conference play.  

 

Here’s a look at some highlights from last week.

 

 

Randleman 44, Wheatmore 0

 

Quarterback John Kirkpatrick was 14-of-20 for 250 yards and 4 touchdowns as Randleman remained undefeated.

 

Two of Kirkpatrick’s touchdown passes went to Tyshaun Goldston, who had 6 catches for 132 yards. Those touchdowns were for 44 and 25 yards. Kirkpatrick threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Chase Farlow and a 19-yard touchdown pass to Brayden Gladden.

 

Daylan Atkins had two rushing touchdowns for the Tigers and finished with 58 yards on 9 carries. Tristan Chriscoe had 43 yards on 9 carries.

 

Christian McLeod kicked a 37-yard field goal and was 5-of-5 on extra points.

 

Ty Moton led the defense, which held Wheatmore to negative rushing yards, with two fumble recoveries and two sacks. Farlow had an interception.

 

Wheatmore’s Johnathan Kelly had 8 catches for 58 yards.

 

Providence Grove 42, Trinity 21

 

Jackson Lawver ran for two touchdowns and threw for another in Providence Grove’s second win of the season. One of Lawver’s touchdowns covered 65 yards. 

 

Andrew Thomas caught two touchdown passes — one each from Brady Collins and Lawver. Collins also had a touchdown run.

 

Jacob Flinchum ran for a touchdown and recovered a fumble. Jackson Summey had an interception. Carson Jones kicked three extra points.

 

Trinity quarterback Noah Bradley threw a pair of touchdown passes.

 

Oak Grove 45, Asheboro 28

 

Quarterback Logan Laughlin tossed three touchdown passes in the Blue Comets’ loss to Oak Grove. Jewel Barrett, Elijah Woodle and Trevor Cassidy caught the touchdowns.

 

Connor Brinton had a rushing touchdown for Asheboro.

 

VOLLEYBALL

 

*Emma Kate Forester produced 14 kills, 3 blocks and 2 aces in Asheboro’s 25-19, 25-17, 19-25, 28-26 win over Central Davidson. Lia George had 7 kills and 12 digs. Ady Scherer had 9 kills and 2 blocks. Eva Vuncannon had 21 assists and 2 aces. Anna Grace LeRoy had 19 assists and Emma Little had 15 digs.

 

*Caroline Way led the way with 19 kills and 17 digs as Uwharrie Charter outlasted Randleman 25-12, 22-25, 21-25, 25-18, 15-6. Anna Brewer had 8 kills and 4 digs. Kayden Faglier had 10 kills and 7 blocks. Morgan Lowe had 10 kills and 6 blocks. Emory Johnson had 40 assists, 12 digs and 3 aces. Sadie Upchurch had 23 digs.

 

Camden Scott had 11 kills, 22 digs and 4 blocks for Randleman. Mollie Hall had 10 kills while Ava Jones had 7 kills and 4 aces. Haley Hinshaw had 9 kills and 11 digs. Camryn Vickery had 33 assists and Kadie Green had 21 digs. Natalie Roach had 13 digs.

 

*Bailey Blackmon had 12 kills while Gracie Hodgin contributed 8 kills and 14 digs in Southwestern Randolph’s 28-26, 25-13, 25-22 sweep of Eastern Randolph. Caroline Cagle had 7 kills and 2 blocks. Kinlin Hulin had 6 kills and 6 blocks. Cheyenne Dixon had 11 digs and 2 aces. Giannie Small had 18 digs. Hailey Kennedy had 3 assists and 2 aces.

 

Kenly Whitaker had 3 kills, 3 blocks and 16 digs for Eastern Randolph. Katelyn Brown had six kills. Vivian Underwood had 35 digs while Cora Sparrow and Miriana Corea both had 4 blocks.

 

*Karrington Batten had 14 kills and 2 blocks in Trinity’s 25-22, 25-20, 25-19 sweep of Providence Grove. Kaitlyn McCoy had 11 kills, 11 digs, 6 aces and 2 blocks. Avery Moffitt had 11 kills and 2 blocks. Avalynn Johnson had 26 assists and Faith Powell got 11 digs.

 

Kailey Brown had 8 kills, 9 assists and 1 block for Providence Grove. Mailey Way had 25 digs while Riley Mazzarone had 12 assists and 10 digs. Maggie Freeman had 4 kills and 2 blocks. Addie Morgan had 8 kills and a block while Callie Hodges served 3 aces.

 

*Whitaker posted a huge double-double of 35 assists and 51 digs along with 6 kills as Eastern Randolph beat Chatham Central 26-24, 22-25, 25-21, 25-17. Underwood added 47 digs and 2 aces. Sparrow had 10 kills, 2 blocks and an ace. Corea had 5 kills and 4 blocks. Callie Craven had 6 kills and 2 blocks.

 

*Batten had 12 kills, 3 blocks and 3 aces in Trinity’s 25-21, 25-15, 25-12 sweep of Jordan-Matthews. McCoy had 11 kills, 4 aces and 3 blocks. Moffitt had 10 kills and 4 aces. Johnson had 29 assists and 3 aces while Powell got 16 digs.

 

*Forester had 20 kills, 6 blocks and 3 aces as Asheboro held off North Davidson 17-25, 25-17, 25-12, 22-25, 15-12. George had 15 kills, 14 digs and 2 aces. Little had 27 digs and 2 aces. Vuncannon had 20 assists and 5 aces. LeRoy had 26 assists and 2 aces. Scherer had 8 kills and 3 blocks while Emma Ingold had 16 digs.

 

*Faglier had 10 kills in Uwharrie Charter’s 25-18, 25-17, 25-11 sweep of Eastern Randolph. Way had 8 kills and 12 digs while Brewer knocked in 7 kills. Johnson had 29 assists and Upchurch got 10 digs.

 

*Scott had 18 kills and 15 digs in Randleman’s 25-23, 25-17, 25-11 sweep of Providence Grove. Hinshaw added 9 kills and 8 digs. Hall had 9 kills and 2 blocks. Jones contributed 7 kills, 4 digs and 3 aces. Vickery had 39 assists, 5 digs and 2 kills. Green got 21 digs.

 

Morgan had 7 kills and 2 blocks for Providence Grove. Way had 26 digs, Hodges had 15 digs and Mazzarone had 11 assists. Wiseman had 5 kills and a block.

 

SOCCER

 

*Cam Letterlough scored four goals, giving him 33 for the season, and Alexander Diaz scored twice in Asheboro’s 9-0 rout of Central Davidson. Henry Martinez Cruz, Daniel Gutierrez and Win Smith got the other goals. Diego Bustamante had 3 assists while Letterlough had 2. Carlos Castaneda, Cristian Raygadas, Andre Valladares and Gutierrez each had one assist.

 

*Francisco Vences and Chris Lopez scored the goals in Randleman’s 2-1 double overtime win over Trinity. Mario Martinez had an assist and Dilan Chavero made six saves.

 

*Letterlough scored 3 goals, pushing his total to 36 for the season, and Diaz tallied a pair of goals in Asheboro’s 7-1 victory over North Davidson. Bustamante and Cruz scored the other goals. Letterlough had two assists. Gerrardo Medina Chi, Juan Macias, Castaneda, Gutierrez and Raygadas all had one assist.

 

*Kevin Garcia, Fernando Hernandez and Yael Rebollar Cruz all scored two goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 9-0 rout of Eastern Randolph. Gabriel Pantoja Negrete, Logan Freeman and Jonathan Lopez Degollado all had one goal. Aaron Avina and Ortiz each had two assists. Jaxon Lee and Omar Moreno Gorostieta both had one assist.

 

*Seth Johnson and Saul Cortes each scored two goals in Providence Grove’s 6-4 win over Eastern Randolph. Sam Peters and Jonathan Cortes got the other goals. Oscar Bautista and Jefferson Vargus both had two assists. Saul Cortes had an assist and Tyler Brown made six saves.

 

Anthony Diaz, Danilo Perez, Josue Ramirez Cruz and Joel Salinas scored the Eastern Randolph goals. 

 

*Jaydon DeNamur scored three goals in Uwharrie Charter’s 4-0 win over Wheatmore. Cadence Butler had the other goal. Isaac Jaramillo had two assists while Felix Martinez and Butler each had one.

 

*Avina scored two goals and Ortiz had one in Southwestern Randolph’s 3-0 win over Central Davidson. Braydon Tyl and Avina each had an assist. Jonathan Perez Dominguez made a pair of saves.

 

TENNIS

 

*Deanna Cobb, Karla Rios, Jacey Wilson, Delaney Lorenz and Danni Hernandez won in singles as Trinity beat Randleman 8-1. The doubles teams of Kayla Neam/Selina Arroyo and Melanie Wilson/Lorenz also won.

 

*Blair Thomas, Malaika Khan and Charlotte Smith won in singles as Asheboro edged Ledford 5-4. The doubles teams of Malaika Khan/Thomas and Madalynn Adams/Smith also won.

 

*Audrey Frazier, Maya Barber, Caroline Tidwell and Abby Greeson won in singles as Providence Grove downed Wheatmore 7-2. The doubles teams of Frazier/Barber, Tidwell/Greeson and Liz Shoe/Alisa Shaw also won.

 

Tatum Wagner and AnnsLee Billings won in singles for Wheatmore.

 

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

 

*SW Randolph’s Austin McMahon won in a race with 12 teammates and a solo runner from Trinity.

 

*Randleman won a race with Wheatmore and other schools who didn’t have enough runners to register team points. The top five were Freddie Mercado (Randleman), Jedidiah Dake (Randleman), Tyler McCormick (Wheatmore), Daylan Rada (Wheatmore) and Jaxton Strickland (Randleman).

 

*Asheboro edged Montgomery in a three-team meet. The Blue Comets’ top finisher was Liam Dalporto (third). Alex Patino was fourth.

 

*Chris White was the overall winner for Uwharrie Charter but Providence Grove eked out a 29-31 win. Rounding out the top five were Austin Luck (Uwharrie Charter), Robbie Clark (Providence Grove), Aubrey Fenberg (Uwharrie Charter) and Aiden Shelton (Providence Grove).

 

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

 

*Trinity freshman Madison Hill won a race with nine runners — five from Trinity and four from Southwestern Randolph.

 

*Wheatmore freshman Scarlett Hildreth won a race with runners from Wheatmore and Randleman.

 

*Laurel Bernhardt took first overall and Providence Grove beat host Uwharrie Charter 25-30. Completing the top five were Jazmin Palma (Uwharrie Charter), Lyndsay Browder (Providence Grove), Caylee Morgan (Providence Grove) and Victoria Jennings (Uwharrie Charter).


 

*Asheboro’s Liberty Adams was fourth overall in a three-team event won by Montgomery Central.
