Conference play began last week. Wins by Randleman and Providence Grove set up a showdown between those teams Fri-day night in Randleman. Here’s a recap:
Randleman 24
SW Randolph 0
Edison Hernandez ran for 155 yards and a touchdown as undefeated Randleman blanked Southwestern Randolph 24-0. John Kirkpatrick tossed touchdown passes to Lane Swaim and Gregory Price while Tyshaun Goldston scored on a 6-yard run. Goldston also caught 6 passes for 96 yards.
Thomas Dobias, Chase Farlow and Goldston each had an interception to lead the defense.
Nathan Ellis caught 3 passes for 79 yards and had an interception for Southwestern Randolph.
Eastern Randolph 47
Providence Grove 0
Lucas Smith had four rushing touchdowns while Carter Revelle threw touchdown passes to Nicah Taylor and Rayden West in Eastern Randolph’s 47-0 win over Providence Grove.
Trinity 27
Wheatmore 12
Dominic Payne ran for a touchdown, Noah Bradley threw a touchdown pass, Nathan Mathai returned a fumble for a touchdown and Brandon Campbell returned an interception for a touchdown in Trinity’s 27-12 win over Wheatmore.
Kasey Blakeney, Adrian Goodwin and Cam Nelson each also had an interception.

Logan Laughlin threw touchdown passes to Elijah Woodle and Aiden Robinson in Asheboro’s 42-21 loss to North Davidson.

Several local singles and doubles players reached the state playoffs in tennis while the volleyball tournaments in the Mid-Piedmont and PAC-7 conferences got under way on Monday this week.
Here’s a look at those and other happenings from last week that helped frame the current week.
VOLLEYBALL
-Camden Scott recorded 12 kills and 6 digs in Randleman’s 25-17, 25-13, 25-15 win over Ledford. Camryn Vickery had 25 assists and 7 digs. Haley Hinshaw had 6 kills and 7 digs. Karli Kennington had 17 digs and 3 aces. Ava Jones and Mollie Hall each had 4 kills. Kadie Green had 8 digs and 4 aces while Alicia Price had 6 assists.
-Gracie Hodgin pounded 11 kills in Southwestern Randolph’s 25-20, 25-10, 25-19 win over Western Guilford. Coley Shiflet had 22 digs and 6 aces. Raegan LeRoy had 19 assists and 3 aces. Molly Smith had 8 assists and 4 aces.
-Scott had 15 kills and 9 digs in Randleman’s 25-21, 25-21, 21-13 sweep of Trinity. Hinshaw added 9 kills and 11 digs. Haleigh Baity had 8 kills and 6 digs. Kennington had 27 digs and 5 aces. Vickery had 36 assists, 5 digs and 2 kills. Green had 8 digs and 2 aces. Ava Jones had 7 kills and 3 aces.
Kaitlyn McCoy and Sarabeth Johnson each had six kills for Trinity. Karrington Batten had 5 kills, 3 blocks and 2 aces. Avalynn Johnson had 14 assists and 10 digs while Katelyn Hill had 20 digs.
-Ellen Long had 17 kills, 5 aces and 3 blocks in Asheboro’s 20-25, 25-20, 17-25, 25-19, 15-12 win over Ledford. Sion Murrain also had 17 kills to go along with 3 blocks and 2 aces. Eva Vuncannon had 22 assists, 5 digs and 3 aces. Piper Davidson had 24 digs and 3 aces. Lia George had 15 kills, 14 digs and an ace.
-Morgan Lowe had 10 kills, 2 blocks and a dig in Uwharrie Charter’s 21-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-11 win over Wheatmore. Chloe Painter had 23 assists, 7 kills, 7 digs, 6 aces and a block. Lizah Moore had 8 kills, 3 digs and a block.
-Long walloped 20 kills and had 6 blocks in Asheboro’s 25-18, 25-21, 25-13 sweep of Providence Grove. Murrain also had 20 kills to go along with 16 digs and a block. Davidson had 29 digs. George 7 kills and 10 digs. Vuncannon had 30 assists and 6 aces.
-Smith had 10 kills and 10 digs as Southwestern Randolph beat Uwharrie Charter 25-22, 25-20, 25-20. Hodgin had 9 kills while Key had 5 kills and 3 blocks. Raegan LeRoy had 16 assists and 9 digs. Shiflet had 17 digs.
Painter led Uwharrie Charter with 10 kills, 12 assists, 4 digs, 2 blocks and an assist. Moore had 6 kills, 6 blocks and 2 digs.
-Kyneddi Routh had 13 kills, 34 digs and 2 aces in Providence Grove’s 14-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-11, 15-10 win over Wheatmore. Taylor Richardson had 19 kills and a block. Lucy Lockwood had 10 kills, 3 aces and a block. Haley Greene had 22 assists and Lanie McMahon had 19.
-Murrain had 18 kills and 8 digs in Asheboro’s 25-19, 25-14, 25-18 sweep of Montgomery Central. Long added 17 kills and 3 blocks. George had 13 kills, 13 digs and 3 aces. Vuncannon had 32 assists and 6 digs while Davidson had 27 digs. Anna Grace LeRoy had 24 assists and an ace.
-Sarabeth Johnson had 19 kills and McCoy added 18 in Trinity's 25-18, 18-25, 25-18, 25-16 win over Eastern Randolph. Batten had 8 kills, 4 blocks and 4 aces. Avalynn Johnson had 41 assists, Hill had 23 digs and Avery Moffitt had 7 kills.
-Addie Flinchum had 19 kills in Eastern Randolph’s 25-18, 25-13, 25-17 win over Providence Grove. Kenly Whitaker had 36 assists, Kaylee Courtemanche had 14 digs and Mariana Corea had 5 blocks.
SOCCER
-Fernando Hernandez and David Lopez each scored two goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 4-2 win over Trinity. Jonathan Lopez and Jaxson Lee had assists.
-Daniel Gutierrez, Aranth Gomez, Tyler Smith and Diego Bustamante each got a goal in Asheboro’s 4-0 win over Montgomery Central. Ozmar Martinez, Bustamante, Gutierrez and Smith had assists.
-J.J. DeNamur scored the goal in Uwharrie Charter’s 2-1 loss to Providence Grove. Israel Jaramillo had the assist.
-Bustamante scored three goals while Martinez had a goal and two assists in Asheboro’s 5-2 victory over Oak Grove. Gutierrez had a goal and an assist. Alan Alcantara and Bustamante each had an assist.
-Kevin Garcia scored two goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 3-1 overtime win over Randleman. David Lopez got the other goal. Hernandez had two assists and Jonathan Lopez had one.
-DeNamur scored two goals in Uwharrie Charter’s 3-3 tie with Trinity. Angel Galarza got the other goal and Jaramillo had two assists.
TENNIS
-Asheboro’s Blair Thomas was runner-up in the Mid-Piedmont Conference tournament and secured a spot in the 3-A Midwest Regional. The doubles team of Malaika Khan/Charlotte Smith finished third and also advanced to the regional tournament.
-Carmen Turgeon of Wheatmore won the PAC Tournament singles title, defeating Providence Grove’s Maya Barber 10-4. Both advanced to the Midwest Regional. So did the other semifinalists — Southwestern Randolph’s Sammie Parks and Wheatmore’s Sarah Smith.
Southwestern Randolph’s team of Allie Popp/Lindsi Brown beat the Trinity team of Karla Rios/DeAnnaCobb 8-5 for the doubles title. Both teams advanced to the regionals. The other semifinal teams of Providence Grove’s Noelle Swaim/Abby Greeson and Randleman’s Stevi Robbins/Gracie Rich also advanced to the regionals.
CROSS COUNTRY
-Wheatmore’s Zach Hazelwood was the boys winner in a meet with West Davidson. The Warriors’ Olivia Hildreth was third in the girls race.
-Providence Grove’s Laurel Bernhardt was the girls winner in a meet with Uwharrie Charter and Trinity. UCA’s Chris White won the boys race.
