Ahead of an expected showdown of unbeatens Eastern Randolph and Randleman a week later, the Tigers instead will enter with one loss after a 21-19 upset at the hands of Trinity, which entered the game last in the conference with a 2-6 record.
Here’s a look at that and other games from last week.
Trinity 21
Randleman 19
Trinity took the lead in the first quarter on a Zorn Williams touchdown run and never gave it up in a stunning 21-19 victory over previously undefeated Randleman.
Noah Bradley threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Nazir Staton and Daniel “Buck” Rogers scored on a 14-yard run for the Bulldogs.
Randleman had taken a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on an 11-yard run by quarterback John Kirkpatrick. Daylan Atkins scored on a 4-yard run in the second quarter but the try for a two-point conversion failed and Trinity led 14-12 at halftime.
Kirkpatrick threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to Braydon Gladden in the final minute of the game but Trinity, which had been shut out by Wheatmore last week, held on for the upset.
Trinity held the edge in total yards with 282 to the Tigers’ 275. Kirkpatrick was 16-of-30 for 161 yards. He was intercepted once, by Cam Nelson.
Abdul Sami kicked all three extra points for the Bulldogs.
Ty Moton recovered two fumbles for Randleman.
Asheboro 51
Ledford 35
Logan Loughlin was 11-of-14 for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions as Asheboro outlasted Ledford 51-35.
The Blue Comets (4-5) have won four games in a season for the first time since 2016.
Connor Brinton had 197 yards and 2 touchdowns on 27 carries. Dallas Brinton caught 5 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Ben Luck and Aiden Robinson each had a touchdown catch. Quincy Lee ran 6 times for 70 yards and a touchdown. He also grabbed an interception on defense. D.J. Scott had a rushing touchdown.
Cole Trogdon led the defense with 10 tackles, including 2 for loss, and a sack. Trevor Cassidy recovered a fumble.
Eastern Randolph 49
Wheatmore 6
Cade McCallum threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Archie McDonald and Zeb Meadows returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown as undefeated Eastern Randolph rolled over Wheatmore 49-6.
Lucas Smith had 123 yards rushing and caught a touchdown pass from McCallum.
The Wildcats held Wheatmore to 26 yards rushing.
