UCA girls rally from 18 down in 4th quarter

Let’s look back at a week that featured the greatest comeback in Uwharrie Charter Academy girls basketball history.

 

Boys Basketball

- Elijah Woodle scored 17 points in Asheboro’s 64-56 loss to Ledford. Osiris Rodriguez scored 16 points and Jalial Timmons added 9.

- Braeden Lamb scored 21 points as Uwharrie Charter beat Southwestern Randolph 71-43. Aaron Smith had 18 points and C.J. McDowell added 8.

Trivett Kennedy led Southwestern Randolph with 11 points and Brayden Chapman had 9.

- Timothy Brower scored 24 points as Eastern Randolph raced to an 83-49 victory over Trinity. Julian Brooks had 18 points and 7 rebounds while Tyler Gee had 9 points. Will Stalker added 8 points and 4 assists.

- Will Dabbs led three players in double figures with 22 points as Providence Grove beat Wheatmore 58-49. Andrew Thomas had 18 points and Brady Collins added 12.

Weston Driggers led Wheatmore with 17 points. Wyatt Stepp had 18 points and Finley Bryant had 12.

 

Girls Basketball

- Navaeh Staples scored 25 points as Uwharrie Charter rallied from 18 points down at the start of the fourth quarter to beat Ambassador Christian 53-51 in overtime. It was the largest comeback in program history. Naimah Al-Arif added 9 points for the Eagles and Lainey Thomas had 8.

- Jordin George scored 19 points in Southwestern Randolph’s 59-45 win over Uwharrie Charter. Macy Allred added 15 points, Kenzie Martin had 10 and Gracie Hodgin 9.

Kayla Brown led Uwharrie Charter with 14 points and Reagan Burris had 11.

 

Boys Wrestling

- Aiden Burkholder, Stephen Cross, Omega Edge, Simeon Hamett, Jayden Henry, Baron Justice, Jaden Allred, Zane Schloemer, Lawson Coltrane and Joseph Trahan all went 2-0 as Trinity swept a tri-match at Randleman.

- Hunter Hall, Braxton Walker and Hezekyah Matson were all 2-0 for Randleman. Jaxton Strickland, Connor Routh, Jack Gilmartin and Alex Raymundo were 1-1.

- Joshua Watson, Lucas Kennedy, David Lambright, Trever Crabtree, Jamie Crabtree, Trevor Young, George Pemberton, Hayden Payne, Christian Cabeza and Maddox Carson won as Eastern Randolph beat Providence Grove 58-23.

Nick Straughn, Jeremiah Payne, Connor Pritchard and Malachi Comba won for Providence Grove.

 

Boys Swimming

- Wheatmore swept to victory in the PAC championship meet at the High Point Swim Club.

Winning for Wheatmore were Alex Vega-Torres (200 free), Colten Osborne (100 fly, 100 free), the 200 free relay (Vega-Torres, Landon Weeks, William York, Osborne), Weeks (100 breast) and the 400 free relay (Jaden Kilcullen, Jack Tobey, Vega-Torres).

Winning for Providence Grove were the 200 medley relay (Grant Underwood, Austin Williams, Cooper Wright, Jackson McIlquham) and Williams (400 free).

Winning for Randleman were Cannon Eggleston (200 individual medley) and Reid Herring (50 free, 100 back).

- Wheatmore tied for third in a five-team meet at the Kernersville YMCA.

Winning for the Warriors was Osborne (200 free, 500 free).

 

Girls Swimming

- Wheatmore won the PAC champion meet at High Point Swim Club.

Winning for Wheatmore were the 200 medley relay (Jillian Wolfe, Paislee Hollifield, Sydney Hall, Sophie Williamson), Hollifield (200 individual medley, 100 breast), Hall (50 free, 400 free), Wolfe (100 free, 100 back) and the 400 free relay (Wolfe, Williamson, Hollifield, Hall).

Winning for Uwharrie Charter were   Megan Becker (200 free, 100 fly) and the 200 free relay (Jenna Schalesky, Liana Pugh-Vazquez, Abbie Jarrell, Becker).

- Wheatmore was third in a five-team meet at the Kernersville YMCA.

Winning for the Warriors were Wolfe (100 free, 100 back), and the 200 free relay (Wolfe, Hollifield, Williamson, Hall).
