Emory Johnson topped a rare mark in volleyball, Southwestern Randolph blanked Page in soccer and Providence Grove’s Megan Oakley was medalist for a girls golf four-team match with a 36. Here’s a look at those and other highlights from last week’s non-football sports.
Volleyball
■ Emory Johnson dealt 33 assists and surpassed 2,000 for her career in Uwharrie Charter’s 3-0 (25-11, 25-4, 25-7) win over Jordan-Matthews. She also had 6 digs and 5 aces. Carly Rush had 7 kills, 4 aces and 2 digs. Sadie Upchurch had 10 digs, 4 assists and 3 aces. Megan Becker had 2 kills and 2 digs.
■ Mya Hooker had 18 kills and 4 blocks in Trinity’s 3-2 (25-12, 20-25, 19-25, 25-18, 15-10) win over Central Davidson. Avery Moffitt produced a double-double of 17 kills and 14 digs along with 2 aces. Dakota Odell also had a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs along with 2 blocks and 2 aces. Avalynn Johnson had 48 assists and 17 digs. Bryn Holden had 17 digs, 2 blocks and an ace. Katelyn Hill had 12 digs, 4 assists and an ace.
■ Upchurch had 10 digs, surpassing 1,000 for her career, as Uwharrie Charter swept Southern Alamance 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-17). Emory Johnson had 24 assists and 8 digs. Rush had 13 kills and 7 digs. Caroline Way had 10 kills and 6 aces. Alyvia Spinks and Nyasia Wharton each had three kills.
■ Cora Little had 11 kills in Asheboro’s 3-0 (25-12, 25-4, 25-7) sweep of Eastern Guilford. Lia George posted a double-double of 10 kills and 15 digs along with 6 aces. Kailey Brown had 3 kills and 10 assists. Emma Little had 16 digs and a pair of aces. Eva Vuncannon had 16 assists and 6 aces.
■ Emory Johnson had 38 assists and 9 digs in Uwharrie Charter’s 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-6) sweep of Eastern Randolph. Upchurch had 12 digs and 3 assists. Rush had 9 kills and 6 digs while Gracie Smith contributed 10 digs. Way had 10 kills and 6 aces. Wharton had 7 kills and Spinks added 6.
■ Adalyn Whitaker had 8 kills and 2 blocks as Providence Grove swept East Davidson 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-17). Callie Hodges had 20 digs and Ruby Caudle had 4 kills. Lara Wiseman had 8 kills and Cheyenne Collins got 8 assists.
■ Cheyenne Dixon had 10 kills in Southwestern Randolph’s 3-0 (25-10, 25-7, 25-13) sweep of Northwood. Bailey Blackmon had 7 kills while Stella Brown had 4 kills and 2 aces. Sara-Kate Marion had 4 kills and Madilyn Baker had 4 aces. Hailey Kennedy had three aces and a kill.
■ George led the way with 11 kills, 6 digs and 4 aces as Asheboro swept Northeast Guilford 3-0 (25-8, 25-2, 25-4). Adalyn Scherer had 7 kills while Emma Kate Forester had 6 kills and 3 aces. Vuncannon had 12 assists and 6 aces. Emma Little had 6 aces and 4 digs. Madeline Hodge had 2 kills and 4 blocks. Brown had 13 assists and 2 aces.
Soccer
■ Henry Martinez scored the goal in Asheboro’s 1-0 win over Reagan. Ivan Castaneda got the assist.
■ Grayson Carter and Easton DeWitt both scored two goals as Wheatmore blanked Lexington 5-0. Carter Queen tallied the other goal. Eli Bailey, Shaheer Fayaz, DeWitt and Queen had assists. Logan Hughes had a busy night with 17 saves.
■ Fernando Hernandez, Aaron Avina and Yael Rebollar-Ortiz scored the goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 3-0 win over Page. Hernandez had two assists and Jonathan Lopez-Degollado had one.
■ Laurel Ortiz scored the goal and Hughes made 14 saves in Wheatmore’s 6-1 loss to Southeast Guilford.
■ Alfredo Huerta Rangel, Jacob Elorza, Mario Tellez-Garcia and Trey Gomez scored in Trinity’s 4-3 win over Eastern Randolph. Elorza’s goal was on a penalty kick. Sam Foster had two assists while Cash Harris and Tellez-Garcia both had one.
Tennis
■ Ashleigh Paige, Macie Epps, Bella Branson, Delaney Aldrich, Lancy Ricketts and Addyson Williams swept the singles as Uwharrie Charter beat Jordan-Matthews 9-0. The teams of Epps/Williams, Branson/Ricketts and Kaci Smith/Aldrich swept the doubles.
■ Reese Davis, Ella Money and Allyson Holt won in singles along with the doubles team of Elizabeth Routh/Money as Providence Grove beat Thomasville 4-0.
■ Kayla Neam, Selina Arroyo, Makensie Case and Caroline Case won in singles as Trinity downed Wheatmore 7-2. The teams of Alexi Austin/Arroyo and Case/Case won in doubles.
■ Danielle Perry, Reagan Stinnett, Lauren Church, Makenna Lawrence, Emma Gower and Ava Botts took the singles as Wheatmore swept North Moore 9-0. The doubles teams of Perry/Stinnett, Lawrence/Gower and Raydan Barber/Botts won their matches.
■ Larson Kelly, Caroline Farlow,
Scarlet Kyle, Lexi Owen, Lily Auman and Jillian Cox swept the singles in Southwestern Randolph’s 9-0 win over North Moore. The doubles teams of Kelly/Farlow, Kyle/Owen and Alyssa Hampton/Auman won as well.
■ Neam, Melanie Wilson, Makensie Case and Makenzie Hill won in singles as Trinity beat East Davidson 7-2. The teams of Jacey Wilson/Neam, Arroyo/Austin and Case/Case swept the doubles.
■ Liz Shoe, Callie Lambert, Carly Lambert, Davis and Money won in singles as Providence Grove beat West Davidson 5-1.
■ Tatum Wagner, Taylor Webb, Annslee Billings and Emma Davidson won in singles as Wheatmore beat South Davidson 6-3. The teams of Wagner/Webb and Macey Tew/Davidson won in doubles.
Girls Golf
■ Southwestern Randolph’s Danielle Jaeck shot a 46, leading her team to a 164-174 win over Wheatmore at Tot Hill Farm.
■ Megan Oakley was the medalist with a 36 and led Providence Grove to victory in a four-team match with East Davidson, West Davidson and Wheatmore at Holly Ridge. The Patriots’ Adison Johnson shot a 47.
■ Jaeck was the medalist with a 49 and Southwestern Randolph was second to Northwood by a stroke in a five-team match at the The Golf Club at Chapel Ridge.
■ Oakley was second with a 43 and Southwestern Randolph won a four-team match with East Davidson, West Davidson and Wheatmore. The Warriors’ Kyndal Kindley was third with a 47.
Girls Cross Country
■ Trinity’s Ryanne Burrow was second overall and Madison Hill third in the Bulldogs’ 26-33 loss to East Davidson.
■ Providence Grove (31) edged West Davidson (32) and Southwestern Randolph (66) in a Central Carolina Conference meet at Wheatmore. The Patriots’ Laurel Bernhardt was the overall winner and Bailee Marshall was second. Wheatmore’s Lydia Madison was third.
■ Randleman was second in a three-team meet with Central Davidson and Montgomery Central. The Tigers’ Rachel Bower was second overall.
Boys Cross Country
■ Wheatmore lost by a point to West Davidson in a four-team CCC meet. The Warriors’ Tyler McCormick was second overall and Ryan Mabe was fourth. Southwestern Randolph’s Andrew Ormand was fifth.
■ Trinity didn’t have enough runners to place in a meet with East Davidson but the Bulldogs’ Tommy Smithers was fifth overall.
■ Randleman’s Jedidiah Dake was sixth overall in a four-team meet with Central Davidson, Ledford and Montgomery Central.
