With football season over, Eastern Randolph’s Davonte Brooks made the transition from the gridiron to the hardwood with a standout performance in a 92-91 high school basketball shootout with Chatham Central this week.
Meanwhile, Asheboro’s boys dropped a pair of games after starting 5-0, but Randleman’s girls are still unbeaten. Let’s check in on those and other highlights of the week.
BOYS BASKETBALL
*Davonte Brooks was on fire with 37 points and 18 rebounds as Eastern Randolph outlasted Cha-tham Central 92-91. Timothy Brewer had 17 points and Pierce Leonard had 10.
*Landon Williamson scored 14 points as Southwestern Randolph opened Piedmont Athletic Conference play with a 50-47 win over Trinity.
Dominic Payne led Trinity with 21 points while Dylan Hodges had 11 and Brandon Campbell 10.
*Ashton Troutman scored 27 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 46-43 win over Providence Grove.
*Tyshaun Goldston scored 18 points in Randleman’s 50-39 win over Wheatmore. Christian Long and Greg Price each scored 11 points.
Tyler Kimball led Wheatmore with 16 points.
*Goldston scored 22 points in Randleman’s 51-40 win over Asheboro.
Jerquarius Stanback led Asheboro with 14 points and Hakemme Butler had 10.
*James Ellis scored 13 points in Providence Grove’s 51-40 loss to Williams.
*Parker Kimes led three players in double figures with 22 points as Wheatmore beat West Davidson 73-48. Riley Strickland added 13 points and Gavin Strickland had 10.

*Payne scored 32 points in Trinity’s 75-41 thumping of East Davidson. Hodges added 15 points and Campbell had 11.
*Troutman scored 19 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 58-39 loss to Chatham Charter.
*Hodges scored 22 points in Trinity’s 74-55 win over Oak Grove. Payne added 20 and Campbell had 10.
*Brower scored 21 points as Eastern Randolph routed South Davidson 94-62. Nicah Taylor scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Julian Brooks had 12 points. Davonte Brooks had 10 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
*Caressa King scored 17 points and Maddie Small had 16 in Southwestern Randolph’s 53-45 win over Trinity.
Autumn Gentry led Trinity with 23 points and Kennedy Jackson had 19.
*Ashara Spruill scored 15 points and Savannah Surratt had 10 in Uwharrie Charter’s 50-30 win over Providence Grove.
*Elizabeth York scored 21 points as Randleman beat Wheatmore 54-39. Gracyn Hall had 14 points and 14 rebounds.
*York had 20 points in Randleman’s 67-37 win over Asheboro. Audra Petty added 16 points for the Tigers.
Sion Murrain and Kaylen Nance each scored 12 points for Asheboro.
*Murrain scored 19 points in Asheboro’s 63-53 loss to Ragsdale. Laneane Scherer had 16 points.
*Brecken Snotherly scored 21 points in Eastern Randolph’s 52-29 win over Chatham Central. McKenzie Gee added 12 points.
*York scored 24 points and reached 1,000 for her career in Randleman’s 57-41 win over Central Davidson. Hall had 21 points and 8 rebounds.
*Spruill scored 20 points in Uwharrie Charter’s 51-43 overtime win over Chatham Charter. Surratt had 15 and Chloe Painter added 11.
*King scored 16 points and Jordin George had 10 in Southwestern Randolph’s 67-15 rout of Jordan-Matthews.
WRESTLING
*Landon McMahan, Trey Swaney, Spencer Moore, Levi Johnson, T.J. Bates, Dominic Hittepole, Zechariah Starkweather, Noah Browning and Renato Brown won as Wheatmore beat Eastern Randolph 48-27.
Jamie Crabtree, Carter Self, Adrian Lopez, Omarrius Little and Ian Moore won for Eastern Randolph.
*Grayson Roberts, Jaden Maness, Devonte Harrison, Levi Burns, Ethan Hines, Brandon Jordan, Jack McArthur, Aldo Hernandez, Jair Ulloa, Lorenzo Alston and Carson Robinson won as Uwharrie Charter beat Trinity 56-17.
Gavin Hardister, Joey Smith and Spencer May won for Trinity.
*Bearik Bigelow, Nicholas Desroches, Xavier Santos, Diego Gutierrez, Samuel Salinas, Adam Curry, David Curtis, Jaylon Moore, Michael Brady, Luke Hughes and Matthew Perdue won as Asheboro beat Oak Grove 52-15.
*Santos and Gutierrez won in Asheboro’s 64-12 loss to West Rowan.
