There was some wild action at the top of the local football scorecard Friday night. Let’s take a look.

ER stays unbeaten on bomb

Cade McCallum threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Rayden West on the final play of the game as Eastern Randolph stayed unbeaten with a 27-21 win over Central Davidson.

Octavius Maynard recovered a Spartan fumble with 13.9 seconds remaining to set up the game-winning play.

Kobe Walker and Lucas Smith had rushing touchdowns for the Wildcats while Joel Salinas made all three extra points.

The Wildcats survived two defensive touchdowns by Central Davidson — a pick-six and a fumble return.

West had an interception.

Tigers survive AHS in OT

Brayden Gladden ran for a touchdown in overtime, lifting undefeated Randleman to a 34-27 victory over Asheboro.

The Blue Comets (2-2) failed to score on their four plays from the 10-yard-line in overtime.

John Kirkpatrick threw touchdown passes to Tate Andrews and Chase Farlow while Tyshaun Goldston scored two more touchdowns.

Quincey Lee got three of Asheboro’s touchdowns on two runs and a reception from Logan Laughlin. Elijah Woodle returned a kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown.

Penalties were a major factor as four touchdowns were called back — three on Randleman and one on Asheboro.

Late Cougars rally falls short

Southwestern Randolph fell 22-15 to Albemarle after a Cougars’ comeback bid fell just short Friday night.

The Cougars got a touchdown and two-point conversion in the final minute. Then they recovered an onside kick. Facing fourth-and-10 from the Albemarle 24 with 27.7 seconds left, the Cougars threw a pass to the end zone that fell incomplete.

Providence Grove incurs shutout

Providence Grove (1-4) surrendered two touchdowns in the first quarter and couldn’t get untracked on offense in a 17-0 loss to Ledford.

Warriors fall to South Stanly

South Stanly quarterback Kaleb Richardson fired five touchdown passes, sending Wheatmore to a 41-18 defeat.

The Warriors dropped to 0-5.

Trinity loses another close one

Trinity went on the road and fell 14-7 to Union Academy as the Bulldogs suffered their second tough loss in a row.

The Bulldogs (2-3) lost 20-19 to West Davidson last week on a late field goal.
