Randleman rolls on in conference volleyball play and Southwestern Randolph and Asheboro’s soccer teams do the same as their conference seasons begin. 

Here’s a look at some highlights from last week’s local prep action:

 

Football

— James Combs scored four touchdowns, including a pick-six and a fumble return as undefeated Eastern Randolph dumped Parkwood 41-6. 

Combs finished with 72 yards rushing. Lucas Smith ran 15 times for 150 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats. George Pemberton had 37 yards rushing and a touchdown. 

 

Volleyball

— Kynnedi Routh had 30 digs and 8 aces as Wheatmore outlasted East Davidson 25-11, 25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 16-14. Kamren Leach had 9 kills while Madeline Mullinix had 8 kills and 5 aces. Gracie Heiney had 13 assists and 3 aces, and Lanie McMahan 10 assists and 6 aces. Ashley Swaney got 19 digs.

— Kayden Faglier had 10 kills and 3 blocks in Uwharrie Charter’s 25-22, 25-15, 25-15 sweep of Mount Airy. Caroline Way had 7 kills and 9 digs. Morgan Lowe had 5 kills and 5 digs. Anna Brewer also had five kills. Emory Johnson had 30 assists and Sadie Upchurch had 22 digs. Nyasia Wharton had 5 kills and 2 blocks.

— Haley Hinshaw had 17 kills and 16 digs to help Randleman get past Northern Guilford 27-25, 22-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-11. Camden Scott had 14 kills and 31 digs. Ava Jones had 9 kills, 8 digs, 3 blocks and 3 aces. Camryn Vickery had 44 assists, 16 digs and 3 blocks. Kadie Green had 21 digs and Mollie Hall had 7 kills.

— Gracie Hodgin had 15 kills in Southwestern Randolph’s 25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20 victory over Asheboro. Cheyenne Dixon had 8 kills while Hailey Kennedy had 19 assists and 2 aces. 

Emma Kate Forester turned in a double-double of 13 kills and 13 blocks to lead Asheboro. Anna Grace LeRoy had 21 assists while Emma Little had 16 digs and 2 aces. Eva Vuncannon had 16 assists and Aleah Smith had 7 kills.

— Faglier had 7 kills and 5 blocks in Uwharrie Charter’s 25-16, 25-16, 25-16 sweep of Providence Grove. Johnson had 32 assists and 5 aces. Wharton had 4 kills and 2 blocks. Gracie Smith contributed five aces.

Lara Wiseman led Providence Grove with 6 kills while Addie Morgan had 4 kills and 3 blocks. Kailey Brown had 4 kills and 10 assists. Riley Mazzarone provided 11 assists and 8 digs. Mailey Way had 16 digs. Maggie Freeman got 4 kills and 2 blocks.

— Scott pounded 20 kills while Hinshaw got a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs as Randleman swept Wheatmore 25-4, 25-18, 25-22. Vickery had 31 assists, 9 digs and 4 aces. Green had 15 digs. Hall added 8 kills and 5 digs.

— Dixon had 7 kills and 2 aces in Southwestern Randolph’s 25-18, 25-18, 25-15 sweep of Trinity. Hodgin had 5 kills and 2 aces. Matias had 5 kills and a block.

Avery Moffitt led Trinity with 8 kills while Kaitlyn McCoy had 5 kills and an ace.

— Ady Scherer had 10 kills and 7 blocks in Asheboro’s 25-23, 25-18, 25-17 sweep of Montgomery Central. Forester supplied 8 kills, 5 blocks and 2 aces. Lia George had 8 kills and 16 digs. Vuncannon had 17 assists and 2 aces. LeRoy had 16 assists and a pair of aces. Little added 17 digs.

— Kenly Whitaker had 6 kills, 17 assists and an ace in Eastern Randolph’s 25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 25-15 win over Wheatmore. Cora Sparrow provided 15 kills and 2 aces. Callie Craven had 5 kills, 5 assists and an ace while Trinity Hardin served 3 aces.

Alexis Hollifield led Wheatmore with 9 kills and 7 assists. Kamren Leach had 9 kills and a block. McMahan added 7 kills and 10 assists. Heiney had 7 assists and 4 aces while Routh had 6 kills. Mullinix had 4 aces and 2 kills.

— Hinshaw had 14 kills and 11 digs as Randleman swept Southwestern Randolph 25-23, 26-24, 25-19. Scott also had a double-double of 10 kills and 15 digs. Vickery had 38 assists, 6 digs and 4 aces. Green had 20 digs while Natalie Roach got 11. Mollie Hall had 8 kills and 2 blocks.

— Caroline Way had 9 kills and 4 blocks in Uwharrie Charter’s 25-14, 25-20, 25-10 sweep of Trinity. Faglier and Brewer both had six kills. Johnson had 20 assists. Upchurch had 15 digs and Smith had 6. Carly Rush had 4 kills and 3 blocks.

Karrington Batten and McCoy both had 11 kills for Trinity. McCoy also had 9 digs and 2 aces while Batton added 3 blocks. Avalynn Johnson had 17 assists and Faith Powell had 10 digs.

— Forester had 7 kills and 2 blocks in Asheboro’s 25-17, 25-13, 25-23 loss to Oak Grove. George had 4 kills and 6 digs. LeRoy had 12 assists while Vuncannon had 7 assists and 2 aces. Emma Ingold had 6 digs and 2 aces. Little had 10 digs and an ace. Scherer had 2 kills and 2 blocks.

 

Soccer

— Braydon Tyl and Fernando Hernandez scored the goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 2-1 win over Randleman.

— Omar Gonzalez, Cam Letterlough and Alexander Diaz all scored two goals as Asheboro whipped Providence Grove 9-1. Daniel Gutierrez, Diego Bustamante and Juan Macias scored the other goals. Bustamante and Letterlough both had two assists. Andre Valladares, Gerrardo Medina Chi, Juan Uscanga, Carlos Castaneda and Gutierrez all had one assist.

— Eastern Randolph beat Wheatmore 5-3. Sawyer St. Clair, Carter Queen and Brodie Bates scored the Wheatmore goals. Owen Bailey and St. Clair had assists. Michael McNamara made nine saves.

— Trinity edged Uwharrie Charter 2-1. Jayden DeNamur scored Uwharrie Charter’s goal and Isaac Jaramillo had the assist.

— Letterlough had a huge night with five goals as Asheboro pounded Oak Grove 9-2. Bustamante had three goals and Gutierrez one for the Blue Comets. Valladares had a pair of assists. Cristian Raygadas, Omar Alvarez, Bustamante, Letterlough and Macias all had one assist.

— Bustamante scored 4 goals and Letterlough added 3 in Asheboro’s 9-0 thumping of Eastern Randolph. Castaneda and Valladares scored the other goals. Letterlough had 5 assists and Bustamante had 3. Raygadas and Gutierrez both had one assist. Letterlough leads Asheboro with 29 goals in 13 games.

 

Tennis

— Deanna Cobb, Karla Rios, Jacey Wilson and Kayla Neam won in singles as Trinity beat Providence Grove 6-3. The doubles teams of Selina Arroyo/Cobb and Neam/Wilson won in doubles.

— Blair Thomas, Malaika Khan and Charlotte Smith won in singles in Asheboro’s 5-4 loss to Central Davidson. Also winning was the doubles team of Smith/Malaika Khan.

— Arielle Turgeon and Tatum Wagner won singles in Wheatmore’s 5-4 win over Southwestern Randolph. The Warriors’ doubles teams of Adamari Lopez/Zoey Bugg, Turgeon/Wagner and AnnsLee Billings/Wagner swept, enabling them to win the match.

Caroline Farlow, Larson Kelly, Scarlett Kyle and Ashlynn Harbor won singles contests for Southwestern Randolph.

 

Girls Cross Country

— Providence Grove sophomore Laurel Bernhardt won the overall race by nearly a minute and Wheatmore took the team victory in a tri-match with Trinity and host Randleman.

Rounding out the top five were Scarlett Hildreth (Wheatmore), Lyndsay Browder (Providence Grove), Madison Hill (Trinity) and Callie Wood (Randleman).

 

Boys Cross Country

— Randleman senior Fernando Mercado swept to victory by a margin of one minute, 35 seconds and the host Tigers won a quad-meet with Trinity, Wheatmore and Providence Grove.

Completing the top five were Jedidiah Dake (Randleman), Robbie Clark (Providence Grove), Aiden Shelton (Providence Grove) and Tyler McCormick (Wheatmore).
