FOOTBALL

Conference play began last week. Wins by Randleman and Providence Grove set up a showdown between those teams Fri-day night in Randleman. Here’s a recap.:

 

Eastern Randolph 48 

Trinity 0

*Carter Revelle threw for 235 yards and 4 touchdowns while running for an-other as Eastern Randolph overwhelmed Trinity.

 

Nicah Taylor caught 7 passes for 204  yards and 3 touchdowns. 


Timothy Brower and DeSean Shamburger each had a touchdown reception. Backup quarterback Cade McCallum was 4-of-4 for 78 yards and a touchdown. 

 

Randleman 42 

Providence Grove 14 

*John Kirkpatrick threw for 218 yards and 6 touchdowns in undefeated Randleman’s 42-14 romp over Providence Grove. The bulk of that went to Tyshaun Goldston, who caught 7 passes, 5 of them for touchdowns. Jeffrey Guzman had a touchdown catch. Thomas Dobias intercepted a pass.  

 

Providence Grove’s James Ellis threw for 72 yards and a touchdown and ran for 71 yards. Andrew Thomas had the touchdown catch and Logan Fox ran for touchdown. 

 

Central Davidson 42 

Asheboro 35 

*Valentino Mark returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown in Asheboro’s 42-35 loss to Central Davidson. D.J. Scott had three rushing touchdowns and quarterback Logan Laughlin threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Amare Godwin. 

 

Southwestern Randolph 18 

Wheatmore 0 

*Jentezen Cox had a 25-yard touch-down run and Nathan Ellis threw a touchdown in the Cougars' 18-0 win over Wheatmore.

 

*Other MPC scores from Friday night: Oak Grove 31, North Davidson 7; Ledford 21, Montgomery Central 10.

 

VOLLEYBALL

 

*Sarabeth Johnson had 17 kills, 14 digs and 2 aces in Trinity’s 25-16, 16-25, 25-16, 25-22 lost to Mount Airy. Karrington Batten had 12 kills and 4 blocks. Kaitlyn McCoy had 9 kills and Natalie Franko contributed 4 blocks. Avalynn Johnson had 24 assists and 14 digs. Faith Powell added 10 digs.

 

*Sarabeth Johnson had 21 kills and 11 digs in Trinity’s 25-11, 25-22, 25-21 win over Providence Grove. Batten had 9 kills and 5 blocks. McCoy had 9 kills and 3 aces. Avalynn Johnson had 24 assists and Katelyn Hill had 14 digs.

 

*Camden Scott had 13 kills, 13 digs and 5 blocks as Randleman outlasted Uwharrie Charter 25-21,19-25, 25-22, 16-25, 15-12. Camryn Vickery had 32 assists and 8 digs. Haley Hinshaw had 7 kills and 14 digs. Haleigh Baity also had seven kills. Ava Jones had 5 kills and 6 blocks. Karli Kennington produced 19 digs and 4 aces. Kadie Green had 13 digs while Mollie Hall had 3 kills and 3 blocks.

 

Lizah Moore led Uwharrie Charter with 17 kills and 8 blocks. Kayden Faglier had 10 kills and 3 blocks. Chloe Painter had seven kills and one ace.

 

*Gracie Hodgin and Madelyn Smith both had 16 kills while Riley Key had 15 as Southwestern Randolph beat Eastern Randolph 23-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-19. Smith also had 16 digs and 3 aces. Raegan LeRoy had 40 assists and 8 digs. Coley Shiflet had 20 digs while Lillian Payne had 19 and Molly Smith 16.

 

Addie Flinchum led Eastern Randolph with 17 kills and 11 digs while Kenly Whitaker had 29 assists. Cora Sparrow had four blocks.

 

*Sion Murrain had 19 kills and 11 digs as Asheboro beat Central Davidson 25-20, 22-25, 25-8, 25-15. Ellen Long had 18 kills, 5 blocks and 3 aces. Lia George had 17 kills, 13 digs and 4 aces. Emma Kate Forester had 7 blocks and Piper Davidson had 15 digs. Anna Grace LeRoy had 23 assists and 11 digs while Eva Vuncannon had 19 digs.

 

*Madelyn Smith had 7 kills and 6 digs as Southwestern Randolph clinched the PAC championship with a 25-19, 25-9, 25-10 sweep of Wheatmore. Hodgin also had seven kills. LeRoy had 19 assists and Molly Smith had 7. Shiflet had 6 digs and 4 aces.

 

*Scott had 17 kills and 7 digs in Randleman’s 25-10, 25-21, 25-14 sweep of Providence Grove. Hinshaw had 9 kills and 13 digs. Baity and Hall each had seven kills. Vickery had 38 assists and a pair of aces. Kennington had 21 digs and Green added 13.

 

*Long had 17 kills and 6 blocks while Murrain had 15 kills in Asheboro’s 25-17, 27-25, 25-15 sweep of North Davidson. Vuncannon had 14 assists and 2 aces. Davidson had 16 digs and George had 10. Anna Grace LeRoy had 16 assists.

 

*Moore had 17 kills, 4 digs and 2 blocks as Uwharrie Charter beat Eastern Randolph 27-29, 25-14, 25-15, 25-13. Faglier had 16 kills, 3 blocks and a dig. Painter had 33 assists, 9 digs, 5 kills and 2 aces. Kenzie Hill had 23 digs, 5 aces, 2 blocks and an assist.

 

SOCCER

 

*Fernando Hernandez scored two goals and had two assists in Southwestern Randolph’s 4-0 win over Uwharrie Charter. David Dominguez and Janaksel Perez got the other goals. Jonathan Lopez had an assist.

 

*Ozmar Martinez and Tyler Smith both had two goals in Asheboro’s 6-1 win over North Davidson. Henry Cruz and Carlos Gonzalez scored the other goals. Alexander Diaz, Diego Bustamante, Carlos Gonzalez, Cruz and Martinez had assists.

 

*Chris Lopez, Owen Leonard, Christian Garcia and Chris Ayala scored the goals in Randleman’s 4-0 win over Eastern Randolph. Leonard had a pair of assists while Francisco Vences and Jesus Ramirez each had one.

 

*Daniel Gutierrez scored both goals in Asheboro’s 2-0 win over Ledford. Arath Gomez and Bustamante provided the assists.

 

*Moises Ventura scored both goals in Trinity’s 2-1 overtime win over Wheatmore. The game-winning goal came when Riley Foster redirected a free kick from Grayson Earls to Ventura, who scored on a header. Trinity had taken an early 1-0 lead when Hayden Hemming tallied a penalty kick.

 

*Hernandez scored four more goals in Southwestern Randolph’s 7-0 win over Providence Grove. David Lopez, Gadiel Negrete and Pedro Ortiz got the other goals.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

 

*Asheboro’s Grayson Norman finished fourth and teammate Liam Dalporto was fifth in a three-way Mid-Piedmont Conference boys 5,000-meter meet with Ledford and Oak Grove.

 

*Southwestern Randolph’s Aiden Pritchard took first place in a boys 5,000-meter meet with Trinity.

 

*Wheatmore’s Zach Hazelwood was the boys winner and Olivia Hildreth the girls winner in a meet with Randleman and Eastern Randolph. Tyler McCormick, Landon Yates, Jacob King, Mattie Foshie and Katelyn Cruthirds set personal records for the Warriors.

 

TENNIS

 

*Allie Popp, Sammie Parks, Lindsi Brown, Larson Kelly, Bethany Latham and Caroline Farlow swept the singles as Southwestern Randolph beat Uwharrie Charter 7-2 to close out the regular season. The team of Latham/Farlow won in doubles. The Cougars were 12-4 in the regular season and second in the PAC with an 8-2 mark.

 

UCA’s doubles teams of Macie Epps/Bella Branson and Alex Lineberry/Macie Hartley won.
