ZooKeepers offense rolls along as season nears end

The Asheboro ZooKeepers’ season is winding down — the final home game is Friday, July 26 — but their offense is providing explosions in every game. Here’s a look at some of last week’s highlights.

 

Asheboro ZooKeepers

- Sal Laimo was 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs in the Zookeepers’ 9-4 win over the High Point-Thomasville HiToms. Alex LaCoste and Owen Blackledge both had two hits. Yariel Diaz smashed his second home run of the season and drove in three runs. Owen Simmons scattered seven hits and gave up three earned runs with six strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings.

- R.J. Jimmerson went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs as the Zookeepers drubbed the Macon Bacon 12-1. LaCoste was 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs. Evan Harding was 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs. Hunter Atkins had a pair of hits. Peter Mullin allowed three hits and a run in five innings. Ryan Nielson hurled two scoreless innings, striking out five.

- Atkins and Laimo were both 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs in the Zookeepers’ 13-8 loss to the Boone Bigfoots. Dylan Driver, Jackson Hugus and Nick Spaventa all had two hits and an RBI. 

 

Brooks Brannon update  

The former Randleman star was batting .248 with 3 home runs and 11 RBIs for the Salem Red Sox, the Class A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, through July 19.

 

Peyton Williams update     

The former Post 45 pitcher was 0-0 with a 5.09 earned run average in 17 2/3 innings for the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League.
